Ch: 5- Evil

I awoke in the same large and dimly lit room that I had found Shane. I saw him approaching me and asked, “Where is this place?”

“This place is your soul.” As Shane approached me, I found myself backing up into an object. Turning I saw a black, grand piano. Had it not been white before? “But never mind that,” He said, “I want to ask you a question.”

His hands lay on the piano at my sides trapping me in place. “What is it?” I asked. Why was I
trembling? Could I really be that scared of myself?

“Do you love Karen?”

I stared at Shane in disbelief. “What?”

He grinned wickedly, proving all the more how evil he was. “Do you love Karen; you know the blond girl you work with?”

“I-I don’t know. I mean she is pretty and sweet, but I don’t think I love her.”

“You love yourself, don’t you?” He asked getting closer to my face. “I mean, if you can’t accept and love yourself, then who else can?”

I looked at him oddly, “I guess…” Where was he going with this? Behind him I saw the whit pillars turn black and the candles on the pillars turn white. “What’s going on Shane, why is everything changing?”

He chuckled, “Don’t worry about it.” That was when Shane leaned forward and placed his soft lips against mine in a possessive kiss.

I awoke in the lounge with a fright. Looking up from where I laid on the recliner, I saw Karen looking at me with concern. Her eyes widened and I sat up, making her move away. “What’s wrong Karen?”

“I’d sagest you take a look in a mirror.” She said softly as if she were slightly frightened.

Taking her advice, I got up and headed over to the small sink that had a mirror above it. Everything was normal about me, except the fact that one of my eyes had turned green. “Shane what is the meaning of this?” I asked my reflection.

To my horror Shane’s wicked grin crossed my lips, “The meaning of what?” He asked with my voice innocently.

It was one thing to understand that I was talking to myself it was another experience all together to see my reflections personality chance so quickly. “You know what I’m talking about.”

“It’s nothing to worry about. It’s just proof of how well we are getting along with each other.”
I glared at my reflection. I knew he was lying but I didn’t have time to argue with him at the moment. Karen ran over to me and before she could state what had frightened her, I heard the noise with my own ears.

The sound of pawing and barking could be heard outside the door that led to the subway. Looking around the small room, the only other exit was the one leading to what ever store the lounge was connected to. Upon hearing the animals on the other side of the subway door begin to ram into it, we decided to go through the new exit.

Ch: 6- Answers

On the other side there was no store. It was my apartment. I turned to Karen confused, “How did we end up at my place?”

Karen looked at me with worry, “Don’t you remember Shaun? A tornado hit the store last night. You were in the hospital for a few hours and released. I took you home on the subway.” I continued to stare in disbelief. “If you don’t believe me, then look outside.”

Karen pointed to the door we had just entered. Did she not remember that there was something in the room on the other side? I went over to the door and slowly turned the knob. With one last look at Karen I opened the door.

Tall buildings shot up into a bright blue sky, cars honked and revved down a busy street, everything was normal. I closed the door and rushed into the bathroom, ignoring Karen who yelled after me, and I stared at my reflection; sure enough my one eye was still green. I turned to the bathroom door and locked it. “Shane, what’s going on?” I whispered, afraid that Karen might hear me.

In the mirror I saw a serious face take over my fearful one. “She’s trying to trick us, Shaun. I’m still here, your eyes is still green, it all happened. We need to get away from her.”

“But what about Kaden, what happened to her?” I asked worried.

“Karen must have taken over her instead of bonding together. She has totally forgotten about what has happened.”

There was a knock on the door and I turned around to face it. “Shaun are you ok in there?” Asked Karen.

I had to think of something to tell her. Something that would fool her into believing that I believed her. “I’m just a bit shocked that is all. Is the store ok?”

“No, we will be out of a job for a while.” She paused before saying, “If you’re feeling ok, I’m going to leave.”

I felt Shane smile at this. “OK, I’ll see you later.”

Both Shane and I listened intently for the front door to close. Once we decided she was gone we walked out of the bathroom with caution.

“Lock the front door Shaun we don’t need someone coming in unexpectedly.” I nodded and rushed over to lock the front door, I even closed the curtains for good measure. “You can’t tell anyone about me Shaun.”

I sat down on the couch and tried to relax and calm myself. “Why not?”

“She might tell someone.”

I laughed, “And who would believe her?”

“Doctors, Shaun, psychologists. They will think that you have some sort of schizophrenia.”

“Don’t you mean split personality?” I asked. I wasn’t stupid; I knew what he was talking about.

“No, I don’t. You don’t have loss of memory when I’m present and I don’t completely take over you either.”

I sighed. He was right. Any trained psychologist would take my experiences as hallucinations and Shane as a made up friend. “Ok, I won’t tell.”

Just then there was an urgent knock on the door and my heart began to pound in fear.

“Answer it Shaun and try to act casual.”

I got up and took a deep breath before I opened the door.
