The next morning…
“Bouchan, it is time to wake up.” “Five more minutes, Shuuchihara,” Maika groaned to his butler. Shuuchihara had been in the family for a long time. In his late forties, Shuuchihara took his job very seriously, having gone to school to train as a butler. Although he was Maika’s personal butler now, his loyalties lay with his first master, Maika’s father. “I’m sorry bouchan, but you must awaken immediately. Your future in-laws want to meet you. Your mother and your father are requesting your presence in the library.” Maika groaned. “Shuuchihara, inform my parents that I am regretfully denying their request,” Maika grumbled being bratty and pulling the blankets over his head. His butler shook his head and left Maika’s room to deliver the message. He knew exactly how this would end. Bouchan never seemed to learn his lesson.Five minutes later…
“Get out of bed this instant young man!” Yumi said as she pulled away the bedcovers. But Maika wasn’t in bed. Instead there was a note. “Mother dearest, I’m not stupid enough to stay around when I know you’re going to come charging up to get me out of bed. Tell the in-laws that I’m sick or something. Make something up. I will spend the rest of my bachelorhood the way I want. Until the day I have to say “I do”, don’t expect me to do anything I don’t want to do. Sincerely, your loving son, Maika.” Yumi growled. “How the hell did he get out unnoticed?” she asked turning toward Shuuchihara. Shuuchihara just shook his head indicating he didn’t know, but he had a suspicion that bouchan was still in the room somewhere. Yumi stalked out of the room. Shuuchihara stayed and fixed up the bed. Then he laid out some clothes and waited. Sure enough Maika soon rolled out from underneath his bed. Shuuchihara stared knowingly. “Shuuchihara, you know me too well,” Maika said as he began dressing. “How do you expect to get out of the house, bouchan?” “She need not know I’m even here, at least for a couple of hours, or until the in-laws leave. I’ll just stay in my office here at the house and do the work I need to do from home. I might have to go out later to turn in some paperwork to the office, but we’ll deal with that when it comes.” “Would you like me to bring you a meal?” “I’ll eat when the she calms down a bit and the in-laws have left. Make sure to make mother’s favorite tea later on. It calms her down usually.” “Yes, sir.” Shuuchihara bowed and left bouchan’s room. Perhaps bouchan had finally bested his mother at something. But then he saw the lady of the house striding up the stairs with a very determined look on her face. He smiled and bowed as she rushed past. “Perhaps not…poor bouchan…” he murmured to himself. He went down to the kitchen to brew that special calming tea. Five minutes later… Maika sat, sulking. In front of him was a middle-aged couple. His bride-to-be’s parents. “So Maika, would you like to see a picture of our daughter?” Akizuki Tomo asked. “Of course he would,” Yumi said pinching Maika on his back. “Oww-wells are amazing don’t you think? But going on, yes I would love to see a picture of my future bride,” Maika said. He was handed a folder and motioned to look inside. There was only one photo and it was a girl dressed in a flowery kimono with traditional makeup on. She looked like an old-time geisha. “Umm…does she usually wear this much makeup?” Maika asked. He had no way of knowing what she really looked liked. “Of course not. We got this done professionally…for you.” “I’m honored Akizuki-san,” Maika said politely. He didn’t want to be here, but he wouldn’t lose sight of his manners either. “We hope to connect our families soon.” “Can I meet…uh…what was her name again?” “Rei-chan. Akizuki Rei.” “Yes, Rei-san. Can I meet her in person?” “Uh…no…our family is very broiled in tradition so we do not want the bride and groom seeing each other before the wedding.” “So you’re saying that I can’t even meet her before I say “I do”. What if we absolutely hate each other?” Yumi pinched her son again. It was all Maika could do to keep his anger in check. He glared at his mom. “I’m sure you two will get along famously. Should we set the date for the winter then?” Maika drowned out the negotiations. How the hell had he gotten himself into this?~~~~~~ “That totally bites man,” Hayato said. “I know…” Maika groaned. He was back at Hayato’s club with another whiskey in hand. Hayato and Ryuuki were behind the counter, continuously supplying their friend with his choice of liquor. “You can’t even see the broad. What if she’s butt ugly? They have to be hiding something,” Hayato said. “I know…” “I laughed at you before, but now I’m just really sorry.” Maika just sighed. Suddenly the sound of women squealing filled the club. Maika didn’t turn to look, but kept staring at his whiskey glass. “It’s that Reita kid again,” Hayato commented. Maika grunted his acknowledgement. Ryuuki kept wiping down the counter. Reita was a young man who had shown up to the club a couple of months ago. With large brown eyes, pale skin, and blonde hair, he had matched Maika’s popularity with men and women instantly. He was dubbed the sunny princess with a heart of gold, the complete opposite of Maika. Everything about Reita seemed the complete opposite. Where Maika was known to be fast and having several relationships, Reita was seen as a pure virgin. All of Maika’s followers soon were charmed away by this eighteen year old beauty. But beyond the looks, Reita was a pretty good dancer and he also had a charisma that drew many people to him, just like Maika. Maika had been forced to admit that he had been dethroned as the cutest one in the club. Although this was more a blessing than a curse because Maika hated all the attention he had gotten because of his pretty looks. As soon as Maika found out that he was what people would call a pretty boy, he had done his best to toughen his image up. But Reita seemed to bloom because of the attention he received for his looks. Although Maika had never personally talked to the kid, he didn’t have a very high opinion of him. But he couldn’t completely hate the kid, because Reita had definitely helped Maika, even if he didn’t know it. “Takeshima-san?” Maika ignored it. He wasn’t fit for anything social at this moment. “Takeshima-san?” It was obviously a guy. It was a little on the high toned side, but no one would ever mistake it for a girl. Maika ignored them again. Maika raised his whiskey to swallow the whole thing down. A slender arm stopped him however. Now Maika was pissed. All he wanted to do was get drunk and forget his crappy life and this person was bothering him. He shook off the arm and turned toward his annoyance. Reita. “What?” Maika said in a rather loud voice. People around them stared. “Takeshima-san, are you alright?” Reita asked. “I’m fine. Now if you’ll leave me alone and go do whatever it is you do whenever you come here, I’ll be even better.” “It’s just that for the past few nights, you’re always here drinking…and it can’t be good for you. You’re already looking a little thin and you’re definitely tense.” “Shut the fuck up and mind your own business kid. WE don’t know each other. Why the hell do you care if I drink myself to death? I have my reasons, and I wish you wouldn’t question them.” “I-I’m sorry…” Reita said, tears filling his eyes. ‘Great, now I have not only my sister angry with me, but this one too…’ Maika thought. He rubbed his face and groaned. “Maika, that was a bit harsh,” Hayato said wincing at all the dirty looks Maika was currently getting. Maika sighed. He had known he wasn’t fit for real company. Maika turned to Reita again. “Look, I’m really sorry that I snapped at you. I have been just having a really crappy week and I guess I took it out on you. I’m sorry.” “It’s okay, Takeshima-san.” “Go and dance…your fans are calling for you.” Maika said. Maika got ready to turn back to his drink when suddenly Reita leaned really close. “I’ll dance if you watch me,” Reita whispered into Maika’s ears. Reita backed away and smirked. This Reita was not the one everyone knew. There was something more there…“I’ll be waiting,” Reita said, breaking the spell that had kept Maika prisoner for a few seconds. It was the original cutey Reita who was talking again. Reita went onto the dance floor.Maika touched his ear and blushed. Reita’s voice had definitely sounded a bit deeper than his normal voice. Maika stared at Reita who was dancing. Suddenly their eyes met and Reita’s eyes darkened in interest. He licked his lips while staring at Maika, making Maika blush even harder. Maika turned around in his chair and swallowed the rest of his whiskey. Hayato turned to pour him some more, but Maika waved him off. He got off of his seat and waved a silent goodbye. Then Maika got out of the club as fast as possible, his heart beating an erratic beat. ‘Am I turned on?’ Maika thought….thinking of Reita…
