Sorry I took so long to update this one, I had written about 5 Chapters for it so far, but forgot to upload them.

Aero woke to shouts and screams, from his shadowed room he could see people running back and forth down the hall. He rose from the bed and moved to the door. Guards ran up and down the hall ways checking rooms whilst nurses comforted patients. Aero saw Karin running towards him down the hall; she dragged him back into his room and closed the door behind her.
“Aero you have to stay down, don’t let them see you.” Karin said breathlessly.

“Who?” asked Aero.

“During the night, a group of men came in, most torn up badly, a few of them were nursing minor injuries, we put them in rooms and told them to rest. This morning on the rounds…. I…” Karin couldn’t continue, tears welling in her eyes. Once Aero had calmed her down, Karin went on to explain that she had started her shift early, and found a nurse dead, with her throat slit. She had followed the bloody footprints leading away from the nurse and found, to her disgust that it had been one of the men.
They had been a taskforce from Aero’s regiment tasked with taking the hospital and securing it for future, exclusive, use. The injuries were superficial and those that were dying had been men found on battlefield.

Suddenly a message came over the speakers in the room. “Ladies and gentlemen…doctors, nurses, patients… I would like to announce that this hospital is now in the possession of the Drackonian Guard, in the next few minutes we will be making our rounds, ensuring support and loyalty to our cause. That is all.” Aero and Karin looked at one another, sharing a feeling of dread.

It took just a short time for the Intruders to find Aero’s room, Aero and Karin still inside, sitting on the bed. The door burst open and a tall human dressed in black holding an Autorifle entered. Looking at Karin he stopped, lifting a hand to the hem of his collar, he keyed his personal radio “guys, I think I got the perfect candidate.” As soon as he finished talking to his comrades, the soldier reached forward and grabbed Karin by the wrist, dragging her up, off the bed. Aero made to grab the soldier’s wrist and stop him but a fist to his side put Aero down and desperately trying to catch his breath, the last thing he saw as the man left was the badge adorning the man’s beret; a skull wrapped in laurels. Not only was thing man from Aero’s Regiment, they were from his own unit, and judging by the fact they hadn’t recognised Aero, they must have been replacements for losses. The thought dug deeply at Aero, these men were filling the familiar uniform worn by all his closest friends with unfamiliar faces, and he was sure he had seen a sewn up bullet hole on the man’s chest.

The Soldier dragged Karin out of the door and closed it behind him, wrenching the lock and breaking the mechanism ensuring Aero couldn’t follow. Dragging her down a series of halls, the solider pulled her into a large brightly lit room. Karin was blinded by the harsh lights and tripped as she stumbled behind the soldier. The soldier dragged Karin to the middle of the room and grabbed a towel that had been left nearby, binding her hands and feet tightly. Blindfolding her, he left the room and left her alone with her thoughts.

Aero slammed into the door a second time, pain lancing through his side. He stumbled back and ran forward again, hitting the door with his shoulder, feeling his stitches tear as the door buckled from its frame. The door fell away and Aero staggered through, coughing blood as he did so. Damn, why am I doing this, I barely know the girl. Aero heard booted footsteps down the hall and slipped back into his room, hiding in the shadows. As the owner walked down the hall, Aero noticed his equipment. This one, a Rabkin, a half human, half rabbit hybrid, was not only from Aero’s country, his was from the same Regiment, this man was a comrade of Aero’s. As the guard passed the door, he stopped, and Aero cursed his decision to leave the door lying in the hallway.

The Loudspeakers chose this moment to burst into life again, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an announcement for you. As a special gift, we have decided to put on a show for all of you. You will be retrieved from your rooms and brought to the surgery suite.” The Rabkin was distracted for just long enough for Aero to grab the knife hooked at his belt and jam it knife up through the base of the Rabkins chin, through the roof of his mouth and into his brain, killing him instantly.

Twenty minutes later, Aero made it to the Surgery overlook, a room giving a clear view of the suite below. Trying to remain hidden, he looked out the windows down onto the surgery room. There below was Karin, tied and blindfolded in the middle of the room. A mass of bodies circled her, all in fear of the men stood in the centre of the circle with weapons raised. A man clearly in charge of the group began to speak, but through the glass, Aero was unable to hear his words. He walked up to Karin, lifted her chin up and licked her lips, then slapped the side of her face so hard she fell to her side. Placing a hand under her chin, he lifted until she was standing. With his other hand he tore open her shirt and began to fondle her.

From his vantage, Aero had seen all of this, and he could feel his hatred for this man rising.

~Why do I feel like this, she’s only a nurse, why….~

With a scream on his lips, Aero smashed the glass as he dived down into the press of bodies. Rising against the pain that was tearing at him again, he jammed his blade into the stomach of one of the attackers. Grabbing the man’s gun he twisted and fired twice, taking down the last two guards, with the guards dead, the staff bolted for the doors. Now it was just Aero and that Bastard, the man that had attempted to defile Karin.

“Little Shit, before I have my way with nursie, I’m gonna gut you like a fish!” throwing his gun down, the man drew a large blade, almost as long as his forearm, he swung it in wide arcs. As Aero readied his gun again, the blade swept across his arm, causing him to drop the weapon, and opening a deep wound on his forearm. He yelped and lept back, drawing his knife, Aero prepared himself for the fight to come. Ducking under a sweep aimed for his head Aero punched the man hard in the sternum, causing him to double in pain. With the brief respite, Aero stepped behind the man and grabbed him by the hair, dragging his head up and exposing his throat. Bearing his teeth, Aero sunk the blade into the man’s spine, the tip of the blade exiting the front of his throat, taking most of the man’s Adams apple with it. Letting the corpse drop to the floor Aero stepped over to Karin, seeing her body shaking, he spoke the only words he could think of to calm her “Karin, it’s ok, I’m here”

“Aero?”

“Yes, it’s me, your safe. I promise, nothing will happen to you.” Aero knew from that moment that he meant every word of his promise, and saw how Karin’s body stilled when she heard his voice. Aero thought of taking off her blindfold, but looked around and thought better, it was unlikely after this that she would want to see these corpses even if she was a nurse. He cut her bonds and led her out of the room, guiding her gently back to his room, helping her to step over his broken door.

Leaving her on the bed, he dragged the body of the Rabkin he had killed earlier away. When he returned, he was surprised to see she was still wearing the blindfold. Allowing a thought to pass through his mind, he walked as softly as he could, using all his training as a soldier to sneak towards the bed. When he decided he was in range, he lent forward and planted a kiss on Karin’s unprepared lips. It didn’t take long for her to catch on and soon, she was returning his kiss as passionately as he was.

Breaking the kiss, Karin eased the blindfold up off her eyes, and looked deeply into Aero’s eyes as he looked into hers. Deep blue mirrored hazel as the two did nothing but looked at one another. As Aero moved in for another kiss, Karin ducked her head, and kissed Aero’s neck.

“That’s when I realised I loved her.” The barmaid looked at Aero in silence,
“Wow….just wow.” She said, flabbergasted
“I’m not done yet, but I think THAT memory is best left up here” Aero said, tapping the side of his head. His drink was nearly empty and his scar ached. Thinking about his scar sunk him deeper into his depression.
“So what happened next?” inquired the barmaid with interest barely help in check.
With a smirk, Aero replied “Another drink and I might be inclined to share more...” returning his smirk, the barmaid stood and took his glass.

Aero sat back against his chair. There was something about this barmaid that reminded him of Karin. Something he couldn’t quite place, but it was defiantly there, maybe in her eyes. Or maybe it was the face that she, like Karin was a Foxkin.
The young Barmaid returned with another jug of alcohol, sat down beside Aero and looked at him intently. “Well, go on” she said. Aero smiled and took a large swig of the drink and began the next part of his story.
