The beginning of Sam's Pain
It was almost nine by the time Sam walked through the door of her house. It was dark-she decided it was best to keep the lights off just in case her brother was already asleep. She tripped over a chair and cursed under her breath as the chair hit the floor with a loud clatter. If she ran now maybe she could make it out before her brother made it to the kitchen. It was too late, the lights flipped on.
Sam didn’t want to lift her head but did anyways. There standing directly over her was her older brother Jed. Sam could feel the tears starting to well up as she knew what was coming.
Jed pulled her up by her hair making her scream. He got really close to her face still holding onto her by her hair almost making it impossible to move. “Where the hell were you?” Sam started to explain how she got hurt at the train station, but Jed wouldn’t listen. She threw her face into the floor and started ranting and raving.
“How many times have I told you, as soon as you get off work you come strait home no stopping for anything!” He kicked her once in the stomach. Sam doubled over in pain, trying hard not to scream. “Don’t do it again.” He said as he pulled her back up roughly by the arm. He glanced at the calendar that they had up on the fridge and smiled sweetly at her as if nothing had happened. “Where is it Sam?”
Sam opened her back-pack knowing full well what would happen if she didn’t give him her paycheck. He took the money out of the envelope counted it out then pocketed it. “Hey..” Sam started but closed her mouth immediately after Jed gave her a particularly mean stare.
“I’m feeling rather generous today Little Sister. So don’t fuck it up.” Sam just nodded her head and watched as her brother walked out the door. She knew where he was going. He always went there after payday. He would take half her check, and use it on cocaine and hookers.
It had always been like this-since Sam was four-teen, but never once had Jed ever taken her entire paycheck. She had no way of feeding herself now. At least not for another week. Maybe she could go and beg at the train station. Sam picked herself up off the floor and headed for her bedroom, slamming the door in immense anger.
!@#$%^&*
