Fear
AN: To everyone’s that has read this, thank you. And I apologize for falling off the Earth again. I restarted school and things have absolutely gone to hell. Turns out that my 16 credits turned into 18 with clinic hours, but what’s worse is that I found out I’m in the wrong major. Fuck me. So this chapter is being written under a case of severe depression. Time to crank up the meds.

Chapter 3: Fear
---------------------------------------
Cassandra’s POV:
I awoke feeling incredibly warm and comfortable. What felt like a large bed and an incredibly soft, but heavy comforter. I didn’t open my eyes but I could smell a sweet and familiar honey, vanilla, and rose scent, and felt someone watching me. When I did open my eyes I saw his beautiful figure in front of me, and his beautiful jade, green eyes boring into me. They were warm and friendly but full of passion and care.
“I hope you don’t mind that I changed you into a more comfortable pair of clothes” his reply was very casual but it didn’t changed the fact that of what he’d done.
I blushed feverously thinking about it. “No it’s ok.”
When I sat up I looked around at the enormous bed and lavish, satin sheets and fluffy comforter. I pulled it away to find myself in a pair of beautiful white, silk pajamas. I stared at him in disbelief.
“I had a human lover once before” He replied as his eyes fell towards the floor. “It was a long time ago and it’s a long story. Needless to say it didn’t end well.
“Don’t tell me you…..” I trailed off in horror but before I could finish he cut me off.
“NO!” He blurted out before he regained his composure. “Heavens no. I would never do that.”
For a dead man he sure did show a lot of emotion. I couldn’t help but hurt at the pain in his voice. Whatever had happened had hurt him deeply and dearly. I didn’t want to pry but I also didn’t want to see him in pain. Especially after all the hospitality he had showed me.
‘Cassie, honestly, WAKE THE FUCK UP!’ My mind was screaming at me. ‘HE’S A VAMPIRE YOU IDIOT! HE’S A DANGER TO YOU!’
“Shut up” I blurted out and I saw his glare. I went frigid cold and for the first time I was genuinely afraid. “No, not you. I’m so sorry, that wasn’t meant for you. I was telling my mind to shut up and….” and that was all I could get out before a cold finger fell upon my lips.
“It’s ok. I felt the fear that ran through you.” He was so close to me. My thoughts ran blank for a moment before I came back to reality.
“Will you lie here with me?” I spoke out and then I realized what I had just said. Oops.
“I suppose it couldn’t hurt. And I guess I could tell you my story, if you wouldn’t mind.”
His response was simple and put me at ease. His cool body felt nice under the warmth of the blanket. I snuggled against him and surprisingly he just put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. God he smelled good, and he was muscular. I could feel the hard, sculpted muscular contours underneath his thin clothing. He put his hand under my chin and lifted my face towards his.
“I’m up here sweetheart.”
I felt so incredibly embarrassed. “It’s not my fault your so damn attractive. What do you expect?”
He smiled and laughed. It was true though, he was unbelievably, and inhumanly gorgeous. I almost lost myself again but he cleared his throat and caught my attention again.
“You’re still doing it.”
“I’m sorry. Can’t help it.” I winked at him and smiled. “I’ll pay attention this time.”
He rolled his eyes and smiled. “Where to begin?” He began as he gazed off into what seemed like an endless ceiling.
“I talk, you listen, ok?”
“Ok” I replied sheepishly, getting lost in his eyes again.
“Good. Well, I’ve been on this Earth for over 1600 years. I don’t remember my human life or when I was turned as it was so long ago. Most of my life was spent running, traveling from place to place, trying to stay away from people. To avoid the initial temptation of my species, you know? Well anyway, about 400 years ago I took up residence here. In the barren nothingness that existed here. I’ve built this entire town by hand and”
“All of it? By hand? Just you?” I interrupted and he just looked at me. “Oops, sorry, continue.”
“As I was saying, I built this town and travelers started coming through these parts. Vampires really. Like me. Just looking for a place to stay. This bar was our gathering point and we all came to a mutual agreement that we wouldn’t be the evil things that go bump in the night. We would protect those around us. Each other, and any humans that chose to inhabit the area. Eventually we decided we would branch out and protect others, as far as we could. Humans began to come and take up residence here as well. They still don’t know what we are but they’re safe here and they know that. It’s really a peaceful town and great place to live.
“Anyway, about 200 years ago, a human female caught my attention. She fell for me as I did for her. However when she learned of what I was, she became obsessed with the power, the immortality, and the desire to become one of the undead. I couldn’t do this to her. Her obsession and my refusal drove us apart. She left me, her last words were, “I you won’t do it, I’ll find another who will.” Even though I did everything I could to protect her, she kept seeking out a vampire to change her. Eventually she found one and she got a lot more than she asked for. She found a vampire that agreed to change her, but unfortunately, she became lunch to put it bluntly.”
“I know you told me not to interrupt but that’s terrible. So what did you do?” I felt the horribly anguish in his words. I just wanted to touch him and comfort him. Touch him and comfort him? A vampire? Me, a human, comforting a vampire? I must be going insane. His words snapped me out of me daydream.
“I tried to commit suicide but I could never go through with it. So I came home. I locked myself in this establishment and stayed away from almost everyone. My fellow vampires tried to keep me sane but I just felt empty inside.”
I swear if a vampire could cry, I think he would be. I felt a tear roll down my eye. It hurt to watch him like this. Undead or not, he was still at least partially human.
“I’m so sorry.” I ran a hand up along his cheek and he just looked at me with pleading eyes.
“It’s ok really. But honestly, you shouldn’t cry for me. You know it’s funny. Being a vampire and still having fear. But it’s not of anything out there. I have one fear in this world, and that’s being alone. I’ve been alone for almost all of my 1600 years and it makes me wonder what there is in this life for me. When you have everything anyone could ever ask for and to never be happy because you have no one to share it with. Funny how things work, no?”
“Umm, I guess.” I was really at a loss for words.
“You don’t have to guess. I just told you.” He smiled a brilliant smile and I smack him on the arm.
He cocked his head to the side, “Oh, I’m sorry. OW!”
“You jerk” I laughed as I jumped on top of him and pinned his shoulders to the bed. “Stupid, smartass vampire.”
We laughed for a good minute before I felt his arms find their way to my waist. Another huge smile spanned across his face. “You do realize I’m letting you hold me down right?”
“Hah, like you could…..” and then next thing I knew he was on top of me, pinning me down. “Nevermind.”
We both burst out in laughter. Stupid, smartass, showoff vampire. And then I notice that my legs were wrapped around his waist and my arms around his back. He didn’t move, he just smiled and spoke.
“Everything in world and no one to share it with. That’s where you come into play.”
