heres the next chapter. thank you to the few who rate and review, it's always greatly appreciated. Although at this point I'm not sure how great this story really is....
“This is the STUPIDEST idea I’ve ever heard!”
Cyn shouted up to Kudo as he jumped from building top to building top. If they couldn’t walk together at least this way he could watch her and they could go to the same place together. Or at least that’s what he told her before he climbed out her window and on the roof. What was even more stupid was how no one seemed to notice him. She pulled the hood of her jacket closer to her face, making sure her shields were up and strong. The middle of the day when everyone was out and late at night we’re the two worst times of day for her. The dogs would be out in full numbers and it would be hard to avoid them, especially since she had to stay close to Mr. Leapfrog. She dodged people as best she could, trying to seem normal. Before Hades had moved into her city there were many psychics like her that moved about. Most stayed very quiet and tried to live normally, rarely did any of them ever cause an uproar. She glanced up to the buildings to her right just in time to see a large black dog jump across an alleyway. She had no desire to stay out in the open like she was. She quickly broke into a steady run, knowing that Kudo would find it easy to follow her. Her slum was far behind them now; they were deep in the trade district and coming to the market square. She stayed close to the outside, as Kudo had asked her. The market square was wide open, filled with small carts and cloth covered shops, no buildings for him to leap across. She listened hard to hear the sound of his claws on the flat rooftops as they made their way out of the square. The back of the Hades building was only a short three blocks away. She rounded the corner before her and came to a dead stop. Three yards from her stood a Cerberus and his keeper. Their backs were to her and she was downwind, but she doubled her barrier and held her breath. Before she could react a strong hand took hold of her wrist and pulled her into an alley, his hand going firmly to her mouth to be sure she stayed quite. She struggled for only a moment before he freed her letting her turn to face Kudo.
“God you scared the living crap out of me!”
He grinned at her behavior a little, his fingers reaching out to her short hair.
“Me? You’re the one that took off all of a sudden.”
She blushed a little as his fingers teased a small sample of her hair.
“I got scared….”
Kudo moved to the end of the alley, his back pressed against the brick as he slowly peeked around the corner. He was shirtless again, his skin littered with pale scars. He was tall and muscular, with lean limbs and features.
“Are you ready?”
She jumped, his voice pulling her back to reality. She nodded. He grabbed her hand and darted across the open street as she struggled to keep up, when they reached the open alley on the other side he didn’t pause, but continued to drag her. When they stopped she was thoroughly lost and winded. They stood at a dead end, a rather plain looking door before them as Kudo released her hand. He wasn’t even breathing hard, when she was force to bend over and brace herself with her knees.
“You can make mental barriers; can you make a barrier that prevents the other dogs from sensing me?”
Still panting she lifted a hand to him, creating a small barrier between them. He put his hand to it and smiled.
“Can you make a large one that covers both of us?”
She nodded.
“Just give me a few minutes and I will.”
Kudo took her face in his hands lifting her until their foreheads touched and she was on the tips of her toes. She hadn’t noticed before how tall he was, or how warm.
“You do so well for me. Keepers at Hades are trained for years before they are given a Cerberus, but you, you do well.”
Heat rose to her cheeks as she tried to slip out of his grasp.
“You say such weird things.”
He let her go as she put a little more space between them.
“It’s because I belong to you now. You are my master, and so you must command me.”
Her brow furrowed as he moved for the door, a small click sounded from it when he neared.
“This is one of several backdoors Hades uses for the dogs. This is where we are kept when we’re not with our masters. The doors unlock when a collar is near. I need you to make that barrier now, and hold it until I tell you it’s safe. Can you do that for me?”
Cyn nodded, focusing her energy on a wider and thicker barrier that barred the body instead of the mind. They entered quietly as he cautiously walked just slightly ahead of her.
“You can’t stray too far from me; I can’t expand this barrier much further it’s taking up a lot of energy.”
He nodded as they rounded a corner. He knew where they were, he knew the halls and the doors, so many large iron doors that lined each hall they walked down.
“Here, she comes here; she should walk by here soon.”
He pulled her into what looked to be a small office, nestled at the end of one of the less prison looking hallways. Books were piled on a small dirty desk, where a small dirty computer sat humming away. Its blue screen gave a little light but she felt her eyes were wide in the dark.
“You can let the barrier down a little if you wish. Don’t drop it just cut it low a little.”
She sighed as she released her power, letting her focus more on her surroundings. A tiny window covered with dust let her know they were on the basement level, the window being high and narrow against the ground outside. Kudo struck a match and lit a cigarette, drawing Cyn’s attention.
“She’s close now, I can smell her.”
In the darkness she could see his short claws at his fingertips. His fangs glittered when he spoke. She wasn’t the only one extending her powers.
“Come here.”
His tone told her not to keep him waiting. He positioned himself across the small office, opposite the door, his body between her and whatever they were waiting for. His left hand reached back to her, shielding her as his fingers searched out her hand.
“I thought she was a friend.”
His fingers tightened their grip on hers.
“She was, but that was before I ripped out Roland’s throat. Hopefully she is still my ally.”
Cyn swallowed hard as the door knob turned, letting in a sliver of light and the dark outline of a woman. She didn’t pause, but closed the door behind her firmly and locked it.
“My, my, I thought you were dead.”
Kudo remained tense, but his voice sounded like friendly banter.
“I thought I was too for a while there. It’s nice to see you again Sarah.”
She was beautiful, very tall and slender, with long flowing blonde hair and blue eyes. She was a little older than Cyn, closer to Kudo’s age perhaps, full breasted with a figure to die for. She smiled wide for Kudo as he relaxed a little.
“I see you brought a friend. Why such a risky visit Kudo?”
He smiled and took a relaxed drag from his cigarette.
“She possesses me now, I would be dead right now if it weren’t for her, so I gave myself to her. But she isn’t why I came. You have a favor you owe me and I’m here to collect the bill.”
She was quiet a moment before she moved towards her desk.
“I’ll do whatever favor you ask, for if it wasn’t for you I would be dead. Tonight, you remember where I live?”
Kudo nodded, his grip never loosening on her hand as he still insisted on being the barrier between Sarah and her.
“I’ll be off at five. Go there and stay there until I arrive.”
There was a long pause where no one moved, Kudo simply stared at her, reading her face and eyes.
“And if I obey? If I do as you ask will you betray me?”
Sarah smiled and leaned on her desk next to Kudo.
“If that’s the case, you can rip out my throat as well.”
Kudo’s hands guided Cyn behind him, closer to the window over the small desk.
“Go out that window and wait for me, I’ll be right behind you.”
Cyn listened, undoing the latch and pulling herself up into the daylight. Kudo moved close to Sarah, her body tensing, realizing she could easily be killed by the man before her.
“If you betray me, if something happens to Cyn because of you. I’ll never forgive you. I’ll hunt you to the ends of this earth and when I find you, I’ll devour you heart and soul.”
Sarah softened, her hand caressing his cheek lightly, longingly.
“If only you had had that same fire with me, I would have stayed by your side forever if you had just cared for me. You were always my favorite Kudo.”
He pulled away from her, following Cyn out the window and into the empty alleyway.
“Sarah’s isn’t far from here. We’ll stay there until she arrives, I wonder what kinds of food she might have.”
Cyn followed him down the alley, throwing up her shield in disbelief.
“Are you serious? You just ate a whole box of cereal at my place!”
