Inns and Moons
The sensation was odd. His stomach dropped while tiny creatures danced inside of it. Malen’s skin tingled as he flew rapidly towards Earth. He looked at his destination and quickly realized that instead of a clearing, he would instead crash in a cluster of tall colorful objects. Panic laced every cell in his body as he plummeted towards Earth’s surface, attempting to slow his falling. He swung his arms around and kicked his legs like he would when swimming in the crater lakes. Nothing was working and he only had seconds till he hit the tall thing with lots of arms.
Jordan was walking through the forests of Tema, the tall trees barely letting in the light of the object of his contentedness, the moon. Jordan’s satchel of belongings hung off of his shoulder, and tapped his hip as he walked reminding him of his times at the orphanage. As he walked to nowhere in particular he heard a crash that sounded like a meteor or something large had knocked over half of the forest. He cautiously stalked in the direction of the sound.
Malen could only feel pain. EVERYWHERE! Stupid tall, brown things! Was all he could think before he lost consciousness. His body falling limp in the clearing the force of his impact created. He didn’t see Jordan’s body break the tree line or his concerned voice, asking if he was okay.
He rushed towards the boy, who was probably not that much younger than he was. “Are you okay kid? Hey, are you okay? Wait, of course you’re not okay, you just fell out of the sky and crashed into trees. You’re probably dying from internal bleeding, or a punctured lung, or something! Okay Jordan, calm down and help the kid.” When he finished panicking, Jordan poked and prodded at the unconscious man. The boy had a broken left arm, many large bruises forming on his chest and stomach, and two broken fingers on his right hand. Helping with rough and destructive kids is handy occasionally.
Jordan carefully picked up Malen and tried to, as gently as possible, put him on his back. He knew it would be hard to carry the unconscious teen and both of their packs but he made it work.
Walking aimlessly for a few hours, Jordan finally reached a small town and looked around for an Inn. It took awhile for him to find it but gave a triumphant cry as he did. Now he could lay the young man on his back down and they could rest for the night. Jordan walked through the wooden door and felt like he was forgetting something. ‘Hmm, what am I forgetting? Seems I should have something regarding the Inn. Oh well, I’ll figure out later.’ Jordan thought.
“Excuse me ma’am, may I have a room for the night?” Jordan asked the small graying woman at the counter.
“How many nights might you be staying?”
“We’re just staying for the night.” He gave her a weird look as she wrote a few things in a small leather book.
“That will be 75 vershals,” she said expectantly.
“75! Oh goodness, I don’t have any money!” ‘That’s what I forgot! Stupid! You need money outside of the orphanage!’
Jordan was about ready to smack his head on the counter when the woman said, “How about this, you work for me tonight and you can pay for the room that way. You might even get paid if you do well enough.” His eyes lit up.
“Thank you so much ma’am!”
“You’re welcome young man. Here’s your key, now go rest up. You have a long night ahead of you.” She extended the key to him but realized he couldn’t grab it from her without dropping the poor man he was carrying. “Oh dear, is he alright?”
“I hope so. Oh! Do you happen to have anything I can use as a sling, or can wrap his arm with?”
Concern showed heavily on the aged woman as she walked quickly through a door behind the counter. When she came back she was carrying bandages and some liquid to disinfect the smaller boy’s wounds. “Here, this should work.”
“Thank you.” The woman kept a hold of everything including the key and lead Jordan to his room. Once the door was open he instantly head to the full sized bed and laid the unconscious boy down gently then got to work on his wounds.

“Ouch! Ugh, how long was I asleep? Where am I? Why does my arm hurt so much?” Malen had quite a few questions but decide to voice a couple to the empty room. He looked around as he sat up. He was in a small wooden room with a door on his right and a small window on the left. There was a small fireplace in front of him and a little nightstand to the left of the full sized bed. Standing up, Malen looked around for his bag, finding it next to the nightstand, making sure he had everything. Malen walked out of the room, making sure to remember which one was his, and made his way to the front room.
He assumed he was in what humans called an Inn. He’d read about it in some of the books they had in the castle library. Also his sister, Jizelle, had told him stories about hotels and temporary living areas humans used. By how she spoke he expected more technological advances. He didn’t think there were places like this anymore. Everything was wooden and there wasn’t anything electrical. Although, his sister also made it sound as though nowhere else had as much magic as where ever he was right now.
He hopped down a few stairs and was bombarded by the loud noises of a large group of talking, laughing, cheering people. It was slightly overwhelming but not overly much. He spotted a counter, which he assumed was where people check in, and walked up to it. It was empty but soon a short, brown haired, with gray growing in, hazel eyed woman stepped up to the counter and gave him a surprised look. “You’re up so soon? I shall go and inform your friend you’re awake.” She disappeared behind a wooden door before he get even ask her where he was.
A tall teenage boy came out of the room the door connected to and smiled. His shaggy copper hair falling into his warm, hazel eyes making Malen think of Earth. Suddenly his neck felt heavier so he looked down and realized that his crescent moon pendent had become whole. His heart fluttered at the idea that he had found his soul mate. Malen was beaming at the young man.
“Thank goodness! How are you feeling? Is your arm uncomfortable or in too much pain?” The young man seemed so concerned about him. It made Malen smile even more.
“I am fine, as is my arm. I have a couple questions though.”
“Ask away.”

I don’t feel this is enough but I have to think up a few more things for this story.
Don’t hate me too much for it though because I’ll continue to the next chapter shortly.
Oh, as every author (almost every) says… Review PLEASE! It helps a whole bunch to know that people are actually enjoying this.
Curiosity – I promise not to kill the cat. I’ll give it you instead.
