Evening's Departure

The sun was lowering over the horizon, and the warm evening was setting in. Both young and old Servarids gathered at the break in the spiritual energy to wish both boys luck in the time they would be gone. It was quiet now, as they all looked to the spiritual shield, which rippled as it began to crack enough to let them leave the protected area.

"Good bye, father." Iver told his dad, shaking hands with him.

"Daddy!" Idzi launched himself at his father, hugging him, "I'll miss you!"

Imari sighed, "Idzi, you are fifteen now, I think you can get along fine without me. Besides, you have your brother." he ruffled his sons hair. "Good luck kid." Idzi nodded in response, as his father's attention was directed at Iver, "You take good care of your brother now, I want you both coming home to me."

"Of course." Iver answered, and Idzi ran and leaped onto his back. Iver staggered and regained balance, giving a faint smile at his brother, who wrapped his arms around his neck. Iver used his arms to support the boy, willingly giving him the piggy back ride. "C'mon Idzi, we gotta go before the night time comes." He went to take a step but-

"STOP!" Idzi shouted before Iver could take another step. "You almost stepped on the spider!" Iver sighed. "Goodbye spider!" Idzi told it, as it hid itself in the grass "Onward!" he grinned and pointed to the break in the spiritual energy.

Iver shook his head, "Alright then." and he moved through the break. Nothing seemed to change once they were out of their protected domain, but they had a good long while left to walk before they reached civilization, and no food with them. Plus, temperatures dropped in the nighttime and Iver was hoping he'd be able to get there in before that happened.

"Where are we going?" Idzi finally questioned, the thought never dawning on him that they had nothing in this world.

Iver watched forward, "We've got to make it on out own now."

"What do you mean?" Idzi questioned.

"Get jobs, earn money, buy food and a place to live..." Iver explained, "Understand what they go through on a day to day basis."

"What's money?" Idzi continued questioning.

Iver sighed, "They use it to exchange for necessitates and desires... Like food, shelter, clothes, that sorta thing."

"Oh." Idzi replied, resting his head on his brother's shoulder. The forest was thick and rough, and the crickets chirped as night approached, just as the owl hooted and unnerving sounds came from all directions. Idzi clung to his brother for dear life, looking around him with wide curious eyes. Finally his brother came to a stop, rested Idzi down on a base of a mossy tree. "We can't go any further tonight." he told the younger one. "We're stay here through the night and continue on tomorrow."

"I don't like that idea!" Idzi hurriedly replied.

"Don't worry, I'm here to keep you safe if anything comes after you, alright?" Ive replied, "I'm always here to protect you, remember that."

Idzi nodded, sitting on the ground, in the soft moss, looking up through his deep green eyes at his beloved brother, "Sleep next to me?"

Iver smiled lightly, and sat down beside the younger one, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and pulling him closer to his body. Idzi welcomed his brother's warmth and protection, resting his head against Iver's chest and snuggling up cozy beside him. Through the thicket of trees the shimmering moon could be made out and billions of stars twinkled overhead.

"I still say there is a heaven up there in the stars." Idzi mumbled, half awake in his brother's hold.

"The star's are the suns of other galaxies far far away from here, not heaven." Iver replied intelligently.

"Well... Maybe one of those galaxies is heaven." Idzi told Iver, trying to sound just as intelligent.

Iver shook his head, amused, "Maybe one of em is..." he replied.
