~*~*~Chapter 3~*~*~
“Well Lord Rumari, where would you like to go to?” asked Dailah. They had been walking aimlessly around the town for a few hours, or what felt like hours to Dailah. Rumari just couldn’t figure out where he wanted to go.
“Dailah, you are really annoying,” said Rumari as he looked around the area they were in. Nothing but vendors trying to enough to feed their families. Seeing nothing that interested him, he started limping to another street. Dailah rolled her eyes and followed.
Once Rumari turned the corner he instantly knew where he wanted to go. “I could really use a drink. Hmm, wonder how many people would be in there this time of day?” Pushing his way through the doors, his sensitive nose was instantly assaulted by the smell of hormones, booze, and other things that came with people getting drunk. The bar was to the left, tables in the middle, music playing to the right with a large, full, dance floor, and stairs in the far left corner leading to someplace Rumari knew not of. The place was full of people ranging from utterly drunk to sober people dancing provocatively to people sitting at a table, bored as hell, watching people. Rumari looked behind him to see if Dailah was still with him, seeing that she was, he turned towards the bar.
Sitting on a barstool he told the bartender to give him something strong but won’t knock him on his ass within three seconds. Dailah finally spoke up, “Why are we here Lord Rumari?”
‘Cause I damn well felt like coming in here!’ He thought while taking a sip of whatever drink the bartender gave him, but out loud he was a little nicer. “Cause you were annoying me to insanity with questions and I needed a drink.” Little being the key word.
“Are you always cranky?” Dailah muttered. She heard a table crash into the floor and a fierce argument start. Both Rumari and her turned on their stools and witnessed two guys swinging fist at each other over a spilled drink. Apparently the one who had curly blue hair had spilled his orange drink all over the other man’s white sleeveless shirt, resulting in them being on the floor.
Rumari was laughing hysterically at the men. They were so drunk their fists hardly connected with skin, but they sure as hell swung with some energy. One of the guards finally, after laughing also, took the guys apart and outside of the building.
After 10 minutes, Rumari and Dailah headed out. Before they could reach the door Rumari felt someone tap on his shoulder. He turned around looking straight ahead and didn’t find anyone. “Hey, Down here,” a voice, slightly deeper than his, said. Looking down slightly but still too cranky to look at the person, Rumari acknowledged that he was listening. “Would you give me directions to the castle, I’m in need of a job, hopefully as a guard or soldier since most of my skills involve combat. Oh jeez, I’m starting to ramble. Sorry, may I have the directions?”
Rumari barked out a laugh, “Ha! As if you would get such a position. You’re too short and too young. Good bye.” With that Rumari left the bar forgetting to see if Dailah was following, he even forgot she was there. He missed the hurt look the stranger had.
Dailah watched him leave and quickly turned back to sad man. “Sorry about him, he’s been getting more and more irritated for reasons unknown to me. Okay so the directions”
*~*~*Back with Rumari*~*~*
‘I really shouldn’t have been that harsh. I know better than to underestimate someone. He could really have some potential. Ugh! I feel like such an ass. Way to go Mari, you did to him what others have done to you, how does that make you feel. Well voice inside my head, I think I have already answered that question’ Rumari fumed. “ARG! I’M GOING INSANE!!!” He yelled, completely ignoring the weird looks people were giving him. ‘Okay Mari, get a hold of yourself. Its too late to apologize, he’s probably already gone. Plus Dailah would have done it for him, right’ He gasped, “Dailah!”
“Yes Lord Rumari?”
“AHH! Where did you come from, I thought I left you at the bar!” Rumari screamed. I swung around to see Dailah behind and to the right of him. “Never mind, what happened to that man?”
“Well while you strut off to who knows where, I apologized to him for you and gave him the directions he asked for,” she stated matter-of-fact.(?)
“Oh, thank you.”
“You are most welcome milord.”
“We should head back, I would like to check on the soldiers and guards and see if they are keeping to their training.”
“Certainly milord.”
Twisting through a few more streets and up a hill, they finally arrived at the only gate on the outer walls. Once through Rumari relieved Dailah of her duty and headed towards the training grounds. The sound of clashing metal signaled that he was close. The sight of his men was greatly welcomed, but he was slightly annoyed with how many were sitting around. The soldiers were in a circle around the few that were actually training. None of them saw Rumari sit behind a couple of them.
The man to his right piped up, “Aren’t you glad Rumari isn’t here?”
Another one spoke from across the circle, “Yeah, he’d be whopping our asses for this.” A chorus of agreements rang out.
“He is trying to prove himself. Well prove that submissives aren’t just for bearing young,” one of the more shy out of all of them decided to put his two cents in.
Rumari was getting a kick out of this. “That was just that old man’s opinion. I really didn’t like how that man treated his mate,” someone else to his right.
“I’m glad that man is gone. Plus Rumari is pretty attractive. Wouldn’t mind bedding him,” the clown of the group, Cori , who sat three people away from Rumari.
“Ha ha! Yeah, but you know unlike other demons, dragons have a destined mate that, well, completes them. That sounds so cheesy,” a good soldier by the name of Matt, said.
“Still, he’s a 6’ 4”, golden eyed beauty. Who wouldn’t want to seat themselves between his-“
“Oh dear god, I can’t take this anymore! Cori you are severely disturbed! All of you better do something or I will hand your balls to you on a fucking golden platter! Mister shy guy, you who called the last General old man, and Matt, stay here!” Rumari was pissed beyond belief. He’ll make sure they don’t have another campfire chat about molesting him. “You three make sure everyone is working. I’m going to the healer’s chambers and then come back. If I come back to witness something like this again, I will tear you a new one!” Rumari started stomping away when the men nodded that they understood.
“A new what?” questioned the shy guy. The others just chuckled and got to work.
~*~*~Healer 15 min. later~*~*~
“So I’m all healed?”
“Yes Mari, you are all healed and get back to work.” Rumari had asked the same question three times just to annoy Tai. It was working.
“Okay, thank you Tai,” Rumari bounced out of the room, happy he could get back to whipping his soldiers into shape. He bounded down stairs, and briskly walked through halls to get to the training grounds. When he arrived, once again his men weren’t working. “Has my short absence made you guys deaf, or do you like ignoring me!” Rumari hollered at them.
“No General, we were just talking to the new guy, well maybe new guy since he still needs to go threw the test,” replied Matt.
“Fine! Where is this new guy so we can get this over with!” Rumari was rapidly getting irritated. He didn’t even know why, he was just overly cranky today.
“I’m over here.” It was the same voice from the bar, off to his right. Rumari slowly turned toward the voice, making sure not to look too high this time, and looked directly at the man.
Time stopped. Rumari felt his heart beat faster and his breathing quicken to almost panting. The man’s statuesque face, covered with perfect tanned skin, ice blue eyes and hair the color of a raven. In Rumari’s mind nothing else existed but the sky, ground, this man and him. He felt the overwhelming urge to submit completely to this stranger. Could it be? Had he found his mate? He’d have to ask Tai later. Forcing himself to focus, Rumari asked the man, “You have to prove yourself to me that you are worth hiring. Choose your opponent and make this decision a wise one.” Rumari sat down on the closest crate, trying not to think about what just happened.
“I would like to go against you sir.”
“Fine, choose your weapon." Both chose swords.
“Where will this duel transpire, and what will determine the winner?”
“Here is fine. First to draw blood three times. Are you ready?”
“Yep,” the new guy replied happily. Both shifted into comfortable but ready stances. (AN: this is going to be a horrible fight scene… just letting you know.)
The man rushed at Rumari, sword in front of him ready to strike. Rumari quickly dodged noticing the stranger was slightly faster than him. The new guy rushed again in a different direction and Rumari once again dodged. After a few more times of this, Rumari was getting bored. When the man rushed him again he didn’t dodge as fast, he only leaned to one side to bypass the oncoming sword and sliced the man in the side, under his ribs. Rumari hissed as the guy cut him in the same spot. ‘Why didn’t I see him move his arms?’ wondered Rumari. ‘Damn. I should have worn a shirt today.’
Rumari found that the man was a lot faster than he had originally thought. He turned around barely in time to block the man who had somehow gotten behind him a pushed the man away. He disappeared, closing his eyes and stretching his senses, Rumari could feel the man closing in on he left side. He quickly blocked, opened his eyes, took one hand off his sword, and cut the man’s cheek with one of his claws. He once again didn’t notice the man pushing harder on their joined swords making one if the blades dig into his shoulder, drawing blood.
The soldiers were sitting on the edge of the grounds, waiting for one of them to win. Most were placing bets on who the winner would be. Most were betting for their leader, but the opponent was only down by two. No one saw them get closer to the edge of the forest.
Rumari was dodging and blocking the attacks the much faster man was dealing. He threw the man back after their blades joined again a rushed him. The man was picking himself off the ground when Rumari started running. Rumari didn’t see the tree root that was sticking out of the ground and promptly tripped.
Smacking into the stranger, both rolled for a few seconds after the impact. When they came to a stop Rumari blushed. His legs were around the man’s waist and their faces only centimeters apart.
“Oh shit! Cori go, get Tai. Some come with me to see if their okay,” Matt ordered.
The two on the ground just stared at each other, not moving. Rumari could hear footsteps getting closer. Not wanting to separate from his mate, Rumari’s more feral side started taking over. Golden eyes slowly bleeding to a deep violet was the only indication that he was slowly losing control. He looked at his mate then turned towards the men who were getting closer. He let out a loud growl as one tried to get them apart, almost biting their hand off.
“General, it’s okay. We just want to see if either of you are injured.” Matt had no idea what to do. He was a wolf demon and knew nothing about dragons other than being extremely tall and having a destined mate. He backed away as the growling increased.
“Okay I’m here, what happened,” Tai asked going into medical mode. Some explained what happened and Tai went to the two that were still on the ground. “Mari, look at me, you have to let him go so I can see if are hurt.”
“No. I shall not. My mate.”
“Yes, your mate. No one is going to take your mate, I just want to find any cuts or bruises.”
“No. Mate fine.”
“Would you like it if we went inside and it was just us three, no one will take your mate if we are in the Healer’s chambers. Does that sound okay?” Tai was speaking softly. He didn’t want to appear threatening.
“No one else there?”
“No, no one else.”
“O-okay. I carry mate. He is tired.” Tai saw that the man had fallen asleep for some unknown reason. He looked at Rumari’s amethyst orbs and nodded.
“Okay. Follow me.” With that said, they were off.
