Part Two

Cherry blossoms floated down gently to the ground below. Birds sang cheerfully as the sun’s rays filled the area. Resting on one of the branches along with the birds was Steve. He stared up through the petals to the blue sky above. His expression was troubled.

“If only I knew something about her...”

“Are you talking to yourself again?” He jumped down casually from the tree to land before the Priestess of the Tenmei no Ryu Temple. She was wearing her usual high school uniform. She smiled gently at him and grabbed his hand, pulling him into the temple.

“Papa said it’s dinner time.”

“Oh...alright.”

Her name was Kotori. Her father had taken him in years ago when he had nowhere to go. He was trained by that noble spirit and used his skills to save as many as he could. By night, anyways. By day, he lived and worked at the Temple.

Her hair was long and black, just like her kind eyes. It was always tied up into a low ponytail with a few bangs that hung just above her eyes. She sometimes wore glasses but usually had contacts in. Her eye lids were lightly painted navy. She didn’t know this but it was Steve’s favourite colour. She usually wore the typical high school uniform or her Priestess robes, which were like a trainee kendo uniform with the bottom being bright red and having a design of a dragon around her right leg to represent the Temple.

They sat down at the table, said Grace, and began to eat.

“You look troubled, my son.”

Steve flinched slightly. The old man saw everything.

“Yes. But it is my problem. You don’t need to worry about it.”

“If you ever need an ear to listen, I am here.”

“I know, Master, thank you.” He smiled politely before going back to his serving of rice.

The streets were always busy during the day. It was the night when trouble seemed to be everywhere. Steve walked along the sidewalk. He needed more information. Rain’s chi was almost impossible to track unless she frequented somewhere. And he found that place with ease.

He stepped into The Litter Box and looked around cautiously as he made his way to the bartender.

“Excuse me, would you mind if I asked you a few questions?” The man stared at him for a few seconds before cleaning a glass.

“Go ahead. You can ask, but I might not answer. Or, you might not like the answer.”

“Alright...do you know someone named Rain?” The man shook his head and smirked.

“You should go home right now, kid. You don’t want to get mixed up with that one.”

“Too late.” Steve sighed as he scanned the people in the pub.

“I don’t know your connection to her, but if you’re going to start something with her, make sure it’s not in here.” The man walked away to put the now clean cup in its place.

The man wore blue jeans, white running shoes, white t-shirt with a pair of steel silver rimmed sunglasses hanging from the collar, and a silver ring with a black stone which had the letter “B” engraved on it. ‘Big Kitty...he used to be a gangster of some sort back in the day.’ Steve thought to himself after seeing the ring. ‘It was infamous. This man was just as popular as Rain. What is this place? It’s owned by a former Yakuza and is frequented by the most sadistic killer of all time.’

“Thanks for your time.” He muttered before walking away from the bar.

“A little advice?” He stopped and turned slightly. “If you like your life the way it is, stop hunting her and never come here again. Don’t throw away your happiness, kid.”

“Mm.” Steve nodded and left.

‘He is wise...I wonder what happened.’

The sun slowly sank down below the horizon line. The sky was painted a beautiful array of colours: yellows, oranges, pinks, and purples before finally going dark blue.

CrimsonMoon dressed in his all black kendo robe. On his back was the outline of a dragon stitched in white. He placed his katana on the right side of his body, his wakizashi on the left. Both hilts were patterned crimson and black. The same dragon design, in white also, was wrapped around both sheathes.

“My son, must you do this?”

“Yes. So many die at her hands.”

“She is dangerous.”

“I know. I will be careful.”

“Make sure you come back to us. Kotori would miss you terribly.”

His heart skipped a beat and throbbed painfully in his chest. “I swear to you on my honour as a true warrior...I will come back.”

And then he was gone.

“May the Gods and Goddesses protect you.”
