CHAPTER THREE
CHAPTER THREE
“Dude! That’s fucking amazing!” Kyle shouted excitedly. “You’re like… like a superhero or something! Do you have any other powers?! Can you fly?! Can you shoot lazer beams out of your eyes?!”
“No, man, shut up,” Jake said somberly.
“This is amazing!”
“No it’s not.”
“Dude, how can you say that? You would be dead if you didn’t stop those bullets! That’s amazing!”
“Shut up!” Jake yelled angrily.
Kyle stopped and stared, shocked at his roommate.
Jake rubbed his hands over his face and sighed as Sam gently rubbed his shoulder. “I’m sorry, man… I. It’s not that simple. It’s not awesome. I’m sick… and I’m in trouble.”
“What trouble?” Samantha asked concerned. “And what does being sick have to do with…”
“It happens because I’m sick,” Jake said, cutting her off.
“I don’t… I don’t get it,” Kyle said looking confused.
“Jake rubbed his face again. “And if they saw…”
“Who?” Samantha asked.
“They’ll come after me,” Jake said ignoring her question.
“Who?” Kyle demanded.
“What am I gonna do?” Jake asked no one in particular.
“Jakey,” Samantha started, “Please, I don’t understand and you’re scaring me. Tell me what’s going on.”
Jake sighed againa nd looked at his girlfriend and then at his best friend. “Okay… I’m an orphan.” He paused.
“We know baby…” Sam started.
Jake put his hand up. “Just listen.” He paused again. “I got sick when I was little… still in the orphanage. The nurses didn’t know what was wrong with me.” He paused again, obviously troubled. Sam and Kyle waited for him to continue. “They didn’t know… so… so they called these people… some specialists… and they took me to this place… it was supposed to be some kind of hospital. It wasn’t.” He looked at Kyle and Sam again to gauged their reactions, but they were still and listening intently.
“It… it was this… testing facility.”
“Testing facility?” Sam asked.
Jake nodded.
“…Like… in your dreams?”
Jake nodded again. “They found that I had a disease… it’s rare… it was killing me… it attacks my major organs. It would kill me, but it also opened up parts of my mind that I shouldn’t be able to access, which is… which is why I could stop those bullets.”
“Does that mean you can do more?” Kyle asked.
Jake shrugged. “I’m supposed to be able to… that’s why they kept me, but I never tried to. They wanted to push me… to see what else I could do… to see what else they could open up… they strapped me down… I had a million needles stuck in my body everyday, they… they hooked me up to a dozen machines… they put me in situations that… could have killed me.”
“How did you get out?” Kyle asked amazed.
“I don’t… I don’t really know… it’s kind of hard to remember it but, I think…” he paused, concentrating on the memory, trying to retrieve information. “I think there was an explosion and we escaped…”
“We?” Samantha questioned.
Jake had a distant look on his face. “Yeah,” he nodded. “There are others… most of them died, but… some of us got out… somehow. And then… these people… my parents… they found me… I don’t remember where… but they took me to another specialist when I started to get sick again…” He looked up at Sam. “They give me this medicine… I have to inject it ever six hours or I can die.”
“Still?” Sam asked. “I didn’t know…”
“No one does,” Jake said interrupting Sam. He pulled up his sleeve and showed her the injection spot at the top of his arm.
“I never realized what that was…” she said.
He nodded.
“You said they would find you?” Kyle asked.
Jake nodded again. “If any of them found out what happened at the bank today… they would know it was me…”
“Yeah but how could they? You were just at the bank. Who could have possibly been there in this lameass town? And no one is gonna believe that some kid… stopped bullets from flying into his face…”
Jake nodded. “Yeah… yeah I guess you’re right,” he said, knowing full well that that didn’t matter.
Sam leaned over and kissed Jake gently on the cheek. “Jakey, I love you… nothing is gonna happen to you while I’m here.”
She was sweet. Naïve, but sweet. A sad smile spread over his face, “I love you too Sammy.”

Jake sat on his bed staring at a can of Pepsi sitting on Kyle’s desk across the room. The look of concentration carefully painted on his face. Kyle opened the door to the dorm room and walked in, but Jake never moved his eyes from the can.
“Hey Jake,” Kyle greeted casually.
No answer.
Kyle stood watching Jake for a moment, curious, but confused. Suddenly the can flew across the room at Jake and he quickly lifted his hand to catch it.
“What the…” Kyle chuckled to himself. “Damn, Jake.”
Jake turned to look at Kyle with a smile.
“What are you doing, man?” Kyle asked.
Jake shrugged. “Figured I should probably learn a few things.” Kyle just looked at him. “Just in case…”
“In case?” Kyle inquired.
Jake hesitated at first before he replied, “In case they find me.”
“Jake, man, its been two weeks… they’re not…”
“It never hurts to be prepared,” Jake stated defensively, interrupting Kyle.
Kyle shrugged. “Alright man. If it makes you feel better.”
Jake didn’t answer. He was already busy concentrating on the small mug that held all of Kyle’s pencils and pens in order on his desk. The mug flew across the room, all the writing utensils flying out as it moved. Jake caught it as Kyle sighed.
“Dude, if you’re gonna do that… can you do it with your own shit and not mine?”
Jake looked at Kyle again grinning. “Sure man, whatever.”
Kyle shook his head and then suggested, “Why don’t we go down to the bar? You need to get out.”
“Yeah, okay,” Jake replied. “I could use a good trip to the bar,” he said grinning again.
“That’s my boy,” Kyle replied.
They made the short trek down to the bar and found their usual spot in front of the bartender.
They joked and laughed and discussed Kyle’s woman woes and what he could do to remedy them. Just as he finished his third beer, Jake heard lush voice say his name. He turned to see a brunette woman about his age seated next to him at the bar.
She smiled wide as she said his name once again. “Jacob Martin! Is it really you?!” she asked excitedly.
He looked at her confused. “Um… I don’t mean to be rude but… do I know you?”
For a moment he thought her smile turned from girlish to seductive as she said, “Of course you do sweetie… I’m Jessi.”
“Jessi,” he repeated thoughtfully. “I’m really sorry, but it doesn’t ring a bell. I mean you don’t even look familiar to me.”
She giggled, the girlishness making an appearance once again. It disappeared as quickly as it resurfaced as she said, “We were in the… hospital… together.” A sly smile was held across her lips once more.
“Hospital?” he repeated quietly to himself as he looked down at the bar. “What hospital?” he asked as he looked back up at the dark-eyed woman in front of him.
“What hospital?” she repeated with surprise. “You know… we were there before it… exploded.” She cocked her head slightly to the side, still smiling. There was something dark in her eyes that made Jake uneasy.
He turned to look at Kyle who sat beer in hand, expressionless, not sure what to make of the situation. “The…e-explosion?” Jake said, looking back at Jessi.
Her face softened a bit. “Yes, silly. Remember?”
Jake nodded slowly. “I still don’t remember you though.”
Jessi shrugged and leaned back against the bar as she crossed one leg over the other. “No matter. It’s just nice to see a familiar face, none the less.” Jake sat silent. Jessi studied his face for a moment before continuing. “I just moved here and I was kind of wondering if you’d be willing to show me around a bit,” she stated matter-of-factly.
“I mean… sure I guess I could do that,” Jake replied cautiously.
“Great!” Jessi exclaimed as she sat up straight again. She raised a hand to flag the bartender. “Three please…” she said when he reached her. “Two of… whatever they’re drinking, and a whiskey on the rocks for me, please.” The bartender nodded and walked away.
“Damn,” Kyle stated.
Jessi shot him a look that almost unsettled him before her face softened. “Yeah, I know,” she said smiling gently at Kyle. “I can keep up with the big boys,” she winked at him.
He swallowed hard.
The bartender came back with their drinks and Jake turned to Jessi again. “Where’d you move to?”
“Mulberry Street.”
“Oh, so you’re just a block down from our dorm,” Kyle stated happily.
She tossed him a curious look before replying, “Um, yeah I suppose I am.” He was showing interest in her, but he’s not what she wanted.
More drinks were bought throughout the night, and conversation seemed to flow a lot easier among the three of them. Eventually Kyle rose to his feet and announced that he had to go home. “Gotta love thosse eight a.m.’s!” he slurred.
“You ss-sure you’re okay to walk home by yourself?” Jake asked, not too much better off than Kyle.
“Yeah man… what the he-yal do I look like to you? A lil girl ina d-dress? Um cooool man.”
“Alrigh,” Jake replied. “See you later.”
Kyle waved behind him as he walked away.
“Ugh,” Jake said as he rubbed his head with one hand. “I should go ssoon too…” Jessi took his hand away from his head and he turned to look at her. She was smiling that sly smile again. He was certain there was something about her that was… a little bit off, but he didn’t know what. He studied her face and then asked, “Are you drunk?”
She grinned at him this time and replied, “Well maybe not as much as you, but I have a nice little buzz going.”
He chuckled to himself and reached for the half-filled beer on the bar in front of him and took a sip. Jessi waited for him to put his bottle down before she asked, “Do you have a girlfriend?”
A pleasant look washed over Jake’s face as he replied, “Yess, s-she’s beauuutiful. I luuve ‘er.” He took another sip.
Jessi cocked her head to the side once more and allowed a dark smile to spread over her face. “Jake,” she said.
“Hm?” he replied looking up at her. His heart skipped a beat when he made eye contact with her. What happened? Something was different. She didn’t look different, but something had changed. That smile… why was she smiling at him like that?
“Jake,” she said again.
“What?” he asked, uncomfortably.
“You don’t love her,” Jessi stated laughing a bit as she did.
“Yes I do,” Jake said, a look of concern on his face.
“No you don’t,” Jessi said still smiling.
“YesssI…I do…” Jake said starting to feel drowsy. His vision was beginning to blur. ~What? Am I wasted? I have to…~ “I haff togo…go home.” He tried to stand up, but Jessi effortlessly put him back on his stool.
“Not yet,” she said.
“Why….why n…not?” He was having trouble getting his words out. Everything was fuzzy. Even Jessi’s face one foot in front of him.
~He’s tough.~ “Tell me that you don’t love… what’s her name?”
~Sam… Her name is same and I do love her…~ “S-sssam,” was all he could manage.
“Sam,” Jessi repeated. “Tell me you don’t love Sam.”
“I don’t…… llllove…s-ss-saa…” Jake’s voice faded away before he could finish. ~I DO love Sam! Why can’t I say it?! SAY IT DAMNIT!~
Blackness. It was as though he had fallen asleep, but to Jessi and anyone else in the bar, he appeared to be awake and happy.
“What was that?” Jessi asked, grinning now.
Jake took another sip of his beer. “I said I don’t love Sam. I don’t know why you would think I would.”
Jessi chuckled to herself. “It was just a question, darling.”
“Hm,” was all Jake replied as he drank the rest of his beer.
“Why don’t we get out of here, huh?” Jessi suggested.
“Yeah sure,” Jake replied nonchalantly. He dropped some cash on the bar and stood up to walk out.
As they exited the bar Jake stopped suddenly and looked at Jessi. “What?” she asked.
“Where do we go?” he asked with a confused look on his face.
“Hm,” she smiled deviously. “You’re place?” she suggested, an eyebrow raised.
He smiled back at her. “Perfect.”
They walked a couple blocks to Jake’s dorm building and when they reached his room he swung the door open, surprising Kyle.
“WHHHAT the fuck man?! DIDN’T YOU SEE THE WHITEBOARD?!” He was referring to the symbol that he and Jake had devised to let the other know that private events were happening in the room and to knock before entry.
Jake took a second look at Kyle and realized that he was trying desperately to cover up while sitting at his computer desk. He laughed. “Whatever man, calm down.”
Kyle looked up again and realized the woman with Jake was not Samantha. “Uhhh, Jake?”
“What?” Jake replied without looking at Kyle, as he shut the door to the room.
Kyle said nothing.
Jake turned to Jessi and asked, “So what do you wanna do?”
She smiled a poisonous smile towards Kyle and then turned to Jake, “This…”
She grabbed an unsuspecting Jake and slammed him against the door. He hit the door with an “umph!” before she pressed her lips against his and parted them with an eager tongue. Jake immediately returned the gesture and met her tongue with his. He wrapped his arms around her waist as she slipped her arms up and behind him to grip his shoulders
“WHOA, whoa, whoa!” Kyle shouted. “JAKE!”
Jake ignored Kyle’s reprimands.
“JAKE MARTIN! What about Samantha?”
Jake pulled his face away from Jessi’s just long enough to get out, “What about her?”
Jessi pushed her pelvis against Jake’s and moaned as she deepened the kiss. Jake moved his hands down to her ass and held a firm grip. Jessi could feel Jake growing through his jeans.
“What about her?! Have you lost your mind?! She’s gonna be up here soon to spend the night with you!”
“Let her come,” Jessi said.
Jake said nothing. Moans of pleasure escaping from him.
“This is disgusting!” Kyle exclaimed. “I can’t believe you Jake…”
Jake suddenly stopped and moved Jessi away from himself. “Kyle, shut the fuck up!” he yelled. “How many chicks have you fucked over since I’ve known you?”
“You and Samantha are different, Jake. What happened to you?” Kyle shot at look at Jessi. She smiled at him, saying nothing. “You’re disgusting,” he stated again turning to Jake. “I’m leaving,” he stated as he pulled his jeans up and headed towards them and the door.
“Good,” Jake replied stepping aside for Kyle’s exit.
Kyle stormed out and slammed the door behind him.
Jessi giggled, “Now, where were we?” She shoved Jake back up against the door and shoved her tongue into his mouth again. Her fingers toyed with his belt loop for a moment, before undoing it. Jake took the fabric of her shirt in his hands and lifted it over her head and let the article of clothing fall to the floor. Jessi ripped his jeans down Jake’s body as he pealed his own shirt off. As Jessi stood again, Jake picked her up and moved towards the bed. He threw her down in one smooth motion and straddled her, groping her breasts.
Jessi giggled seductively as she said “Mmm Jake, I didn’t know you had it in you.”
Jake only smiled in reply. He undid her bra freeing her breasts from captivity. He kneaded them before taking one into his mouth. He grew harder as he listened to Jessi moan. She slipped his boxers off of him exposing the last bit of his body, clearly ready for her. She began to slip her own jeans off and Jake helped to pull them down. To his delight she was not wearing any underwear.
She grinned at him and asked, “Like it?”
“Mmhmm,” he responded. He rubbed his finger along her slit. She was ready for him too.
She felt the tip of him resting against her opening. He suddenly thrusted into her. She let out a long loud moan.
“Oh god, Jake…”
“You’re so wet,” he said as he worked himself in and out of her.
“Oh yeah… Jake its all for you… take it…” Jessi said.
Jake grinded against her, deep inside her. She writhed around in pleasure, moaning. “Ohhhh!” She yelled. “FUCK me!” She screamed. “You need to FUCK ME hard.”
Jake sped up. The sound of skin slapping skin echoing through the room. He was moaning louder. She was just about screaming.
The door to the dorm flew open.
“JAKE!” A horrified scream echoed through the room.
Jake looked over as he continued to pound the girl he had only known for a short few hours.
Samantha was sobbing. She turned and ran out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
For a split second Jessi saw a flash in Jake’s eyes, his expression had changed. ~Shit I’m loosing him.~
Jake slowly became aware of a strange feeling. He heard a strange sound, his vision was beyond blurry. He could only make out about three blobs of color. He thought he heard crying. He though he felt… ~Wake up Jake! Damnit wake up! Why am I wet?~
Jake stared distantly into Jessi’s eyes. ~Do something!~ She grabbed his head and brought his face to hers and assaulted his mouth once again.
~Jake, WAKE…~ the colors started to fade quickly than they had come back. He lost sensation again. Black. Silence. Sleep.
He kissed her back as he grunted and pounded away. She began to scream again, pleasure shooting throughout her body. Jake’s moans grew louder. He was ready.
“Yes Jakey!” She shouted. “Fill me!”
Fill her, she said. Something felt wrong about that, but he couldn’t figure out why.
~He’s slipping again…shit.~ “JAKE!” she yelled more forceful. The pleasure gone from her voice. “DO IT!” she demanded.
He held a confused expression on his face. His gaze was growing distant again as he continued to penetrate her. Suddenly he gasped and his body tensed and he let out a long groan.
“Yes, Jake, go!” she shouted.
After a moment his thrusting slowed and he fell on top of her, still inside her.
She stroked his hair as she laughed to herself.
The color again in his vision. He was desperate this time. ~WAKE UP!~ He was screaming somewhere in his head. He became more aware of his surroundings. ~I’m naked? Why am I naked?~ His vision was still blurry, but focusing quicker than it had. ~Why am I… what the hell is on my dick?~ He began to panic. He could now tell he was in bed, with a girl, but he still couldn’t make out details. ~I had sex? Sam? Sam… SAM!~ He was screaming in his head, he wanted to say her name. ~SAM! SAM!~
“S-sss,” he said lazily, as if just waking up from a dream.
Jessi still stroked his hair. “That was so good, baby.”
He could hear her voice, but it didn’t sound like Samantha. “S-sssamm?”
Jessi laughed.
His vision focused more. “Sssaam-antha?”
No. This girl had dark brown hair. Not Samantha’s silky blond.
“That’s a good boy,” Jessi said, smiling. She tangled her fingers in his hair and yanked Jake’s head back.
He became slowly aware of a dull pain that passed almost as soon as he felt it.
“S-ssamantha?”
“Stop calling me that,” Jessi demanded.
Focus.
“No!” he shot up in bed, pulling out of her as he did. He was trembling.
Jessi leaned on her side laughing.
“No… no, no, no…” he pushed himself as far up against the wall as he could and threw his hands over his face.
“What’s wrong baby?” Jessi asked laughing maliciously.
“What did I do?!” Jake shouted desperately into his hands. Suddenly his head shot up and he shot a glare full of daggers at Jessi. “YOU,” he growled accusingly. “How did you…”
“Oh hush,” Jessi interrupted sitting up. She shrugged. “You were drunk. You wanted to. I asked about your precious little girl, and you told me you didn’t love her…” She laughed.
“No…” Jake denied. He reached for his boxers. “I don’t even remember… you did this! You did it!”
Jessi gathered her clothes. It was then that Jake noticed a milky substance running down her leg. His heart stopped.
Jessi could feel his stare and turned around to look at him? “Oh that?” she wiped his deposit from her inner thigh. “That’s gonna make my boss really happy.”
He stared stunned and wide-eyed. ~Her boss?~
She dressed and walked back towards the bed and leaned in close to his face. He watched her, a fire in his eyes. She kissed him on the nose and said “Thanks for a great time.” She straightened up and just before turning for the door she said sarcastically, “I do hope you and Samantha can patch things up… She looked rather upset.”
“No!” Jake shot out of bed. Before he could reach Jessi, she was out the door. He swung the door open and stuck his head into the hall. Gone already around the corner. He slammed the door shut and leaned against it and slid to the floor.
“No, god no…” He cupped his face in his hands again. His world was upside-down and he didn’t know how to fix it. He felt so small. He hadn’t cried since he was held as a lab rat, but now he felt as if he might.
“Dude! That’s fucking amazing!” Kyle shouted excitedly. “You’re like… like a superhero or something! Do you have any other powers?! Can you fly?! Can you shoot lazer beams out of your eyes?!”
“No, man, shut up,” Jake said somberly.
