Chapter 3

She was sitting in a booth facing away from the door when he arrived. He had told her over the phone that when they bumped into each other earlier that day, they both mixed some things up. They both agreed on a location that was somewhere in the middle of where they lived and now she was sitting in the restaurant. As he walked closer he could see her razored cut brown hair sticking up from where he was standing. Normally he wouldn’t be out this late, going on 9:30 at night but he wanted to meet up with her. As he got closer to the small booth that she was sitting at, he knew it was her. Her skin was like porcelain and had a light tan to it but that was all he could see of her right now. She was fidgeting a little in her seat as he stepped into her view and down into the booth.

“Here” he said a little too gruffly handing her the papers and cell phone.

Kimberly could honestly say that she was in her own little world at the moment. She had been thinking over everything for the past 3 hours and it was all starting to get to her. Sora had persuaded her into doing this little “meeting” until she got off work so she could go too. So here Kimberly was, waiting in a booth at a restaurant just a few blocks from her apartment with Sora in the bathroom. They were waiting for the man that she had bumped into earlier that day. Already she was spacing out which is why it surprised her that someone had sat down and was trying to hand her something.

“Here” His voice was deep but once she looked up at his face, she knew it was the same man. Looking down at his hands she gently took the papers out of them as if it was something precious to her.

“Arigato” She turned her body just slightly to the seat next to her and brought up his papers into view. She slid them and his cell phone across the table to him. She couldn’t help but think about all those badly written cop movies that her brothers had forced her to watch when growing up. A small laugh escaped her mouth without going unnoticed by either of them.

A perfectly sculpted golden eyebrow lifted at wonder what she was laughing about. His mood seemed to darken slightly as he looked down at the papers that she had given back to him. “I don’t believe divorce papers are all that amusing and if you do then it just shows your character.”

“Huh?” She was confused at what he was talking about. Looking down at the papers she started laughing even more. “I can’t read Kanji” she managed out in between laughs. “Never was able to learn it.”

“Then what are you laughing at?” His temper was become evident and he was going into an even darker mood.

“Just a thought that went through my head about my brothers is all.” She said with a serious face to her. For the first time that night, he noticed her eyes. They were a combination of brown with enough flex of gold to see. “Did I have any phone calls while you had my cell phone?” Her voice was soft but you could still hear her American accent through her Japanese.

“Hai, some recording company called about wanting to sit down with you and discuss a recording contract. May I ask what that was about?”

Her expression changed to the only of hopelessness and she shied away just a little. “My friend Sora sent in one of my demo CDs without me knowing it. I’ve been trying to find people for a band but no luck yet.”

“Did you write that music?” He nodded his head towards the music sheets that she was still holding in her hands.

“Hai”

“It’s good. What instruments are you looking for your band?”

“Bass, drums, and guitar. I play the guitar myself but it’s hard for me to sing and play at the same time.”

“Mind if I try out?”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
That was how it all began for them. Sora had finally gotten out of the bathroom that night as they were about to leave and all three of them went to Kimberly’s apartment just a few blocks away so he could try out. Ryuu, that was his name, had told her that he had a friend that could play bass and tomorrow they could go see him. She had never thought that day she would end up with her first band mate.
When they reached her apartment that night and they listened to him play, they both listened in silence. He was perfect for the band, she thought to herself that night and to that day he was still perfect for them. He helped her out more than anyone could and together, she knew that they would make it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

It wasn’t until around noon that Sora and herself met up with Ryuu to meet his friend that played the bass. His name was Yuji and Sora seemed to fall in love instantly with him and his spiky green hair once they saw him. Kimberly didn’t care what he looked liked, as long as he played good. They all met up at a studio where you could pay for a small bit of time so they could listen to him. It was weird at first trying to listen to him play bass alone until Ryuu joined in. They were half way through the song when Sora started playing the drums, which was a shock in itself.

Kimberly could help but allow a small laugh to escape her mouth as all three of them finished up the song that she had written, the same song that Ryuu had played in his apartment. “Well Sora, it looks like we have a band.”

Sora couldn’t help but to run up and hug her. Her long raven black hair that was pulled up into a bun was now a mess, bits of black hair peaking out everywhere.

“But one question, since when did you play drums?”

“Since always! I just wanted to be your friend at first.” Sora couldn’t help but giggle as she said that, which made Kimberly laugh as well. Soon the whole studio that they were occupying was filled with the sound of the laughter of all four band mates.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
That was the beginning of not just another band, but also a family. It didn’t take long for them to start booking gigs here and there. They had all decided to move into one apartment together to save money and so they could work on their music more. Once they all felt that they were ready, they recorded their first demo CD together and sent it out to several companies. Everything seemed to be going perfectly for them. They were all happy together and nothing seemed to be able to stop them.
They would all eat dinner together and then just lounge around. Kimberly would always go to her room and start writing. It was a new book that she was working on and she knew her inspiration. He was still never far from her heart even after all these years. She knew that it was just a dream since his words had already faded from her mind but she couldn’t give it up. It seemed to impossible now. She was in Tokyo, Japan and he was somewhere in England.
It only seemed impossible though. Not everything was as it seemed with Kimberly as her band mates learned. She always held a few secrets to herself and this one was no different. She didn’t know why she still kept it a secret since she was no longer near her family, but she did. Maybe one day soon it would be out in the open.
“Maybe”
A/N: I wanted to get this chapter done before I went to work today. Here are a few translations:
Hai means yes
Iie means no
Arigato is thank you
I don't remember if there was more of them. When I get home I'll reread it and if if anything needs to be edited then I will do it then. Let me know if something is a miss though.... Bye
