Chapter 3
I didn\'t want to invade Cale\'s privacy, but I was locked in his room by myself. This was the perfect opportunity to learn more about him since I was starting to have mixed feelings for him. I have to be careful where I look. I don\'t want to find anything gross. I looked in the closet first. To my surprise, he was a very organized guy. Jack, however, just had lonely hangers in his closet, his shirts and pants layed on his shoes on the floor. Cale\'s closet, however, was separated down the middle: jeans on the right, shirts on the left. All of his jeans looked about the same style, just different shades of blue. He had a lot of black tee shirts, then some white long sleeved collared shirts, some black long sleeved collared shirts, and one winter coat on the end. I pulled out the coat, noticed a blood stain on the sleeve, and put it back in the closet. Ew. I put my ear on the door, checking to see if they were close. Silence. Next stop, under the bed. It\'s risky, I know, but there\'s not much in the room to look at. I layed on my stomach on the floor and peeked until Cale\'s bed. Nothing. No dirty magazines or dirty underwear like there was under Jack\'s bed. I put my head against the door again and still heard nothing. The dresser. I opened the top left drawer to find boxer briefs and socks. I quickly shut the drawer and moved on to the drawer on the right. Empty. There was nothing in the drawer. I moved on to the drawer below it. Still nothing. I opened the lower left drawer. Bingo. I found a lot of papers and folders and pictures. A picture of a pretty girl, another picture of a pretty girl, a family picture, another picture of a pretty girl. Cale must have had a lot of friends in High School. They all looked like Senior Pictures.
"What do you think you\'re doing?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around, shocked, to see Wade behind me smirking. I must have gotten too caught up in sneaking that I didn\'t even hear him unlock the door.
"Nothing." I responded innocently. Wade chuckled and shut the dresser drawer. He held out a hand, "C\'mon. We wouldn\'t want Cale to see you violating his privacy."
I took his hand and he helped me up. I released my grip as soon as I was on my feet, but Wade had other plans. He led me out of Cale\'s bedroom and up the stairs.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Upstairs"
I sighed. "Yes, but why?"
"You\'ll see."
He pushed the trap door open and helped me into the bathroom. We kept walking until we got into the living room. I noticed Maggie, Vincent, Cale, and Elliot sitting on the couch in that order.
"What\'s going on?" I asked meekly. "We decided-" Wade said.
Cale stood up, "That we aren\'t going to kill you."
I was confused.
"What? Why not?"
"\'Cause.." Wade said hesitantly, "We....like you too much."
"Yeah," Elliot said, "You\'re cool."
"There are conditions, of course." Wade continued.
"Conditions?"
"Yeah. One, you have to stay here with us."
"For how long?" I asked.
"I dunno, forever? Anyways, two, you have to WANT to stay her. Either you stay here of your own free will, or......."
"Or?" I asked.
"...Or we have to kill you." Wade said. I could hear a hint of remorse in his voice.
"So, I stay here until I\'m really, really old, then die here, or I die now?"
"I guess. Maybe if we trust you enough, we\'ll let you go in a couple of years." Cale spoke up.
"What if I don\'t want to stay here for two years? What if I\'d rather leave sooner, like now, and hopefully never get captured again?"
"You\'re pushing your luck" Vincent said in a stern voice. This scared me.
"All right. I choose....living, for now."
"Fair enough." Wade said. A small smile played across his face.
"Great, now that that\'s settled.." Cale said. He grabbed my hand and led be back to the bathroom.
"Wait, where are we going?" I asked, giggling.
He pulled open the door and led me back downstairs and into his room. Once again, I was locked in Cale\'s domain, except this time, I wasn\'t alone. This time, Cale was with me, and this time, he had a smirk on his face. I sat on his bed and nervously curled my lips into my mouth. He stood right in front of me, hovering over me. His arms, once hanging at his sides, reached on either side of my body and rested on both of my shoulders. I diverted my glance from his chest up to his face cautiously, still nervous. He was staring down at me. I felt like a deer in headlights. I was frozen. Was I supposed to be afraid of Cale like he\'d warned me the first night I\'d met him, or should I accept my new feelings toward him, feelings I should have been saving for my boyfriend, Jack.
Cale\'s hands moved down slightly, his fingers pushed my shoulders back. It wasn\'t a hard push, but it did shock me enough to crash backwards onto his bed. My legs dangled off the side. Cale walked forward and kneeled on the bed, his legs on either side of me. This was awkward. Here I was, laying on my back on some stranger\'s bed, him straddling me, no doubt what thoughts were running through his mind as a smirk ran across his face. He put his hands on both sides of my head and stared at me, smiling. My guess was he was smiling because he could sense my fear, my anxiety, and my want for him to come closer.
I don\'t know how long I gazed up at Cale\'s icy blue eyes. One thing was for sure: I was relaxed, almost too relaxed. Then it hit me. I hadn\'t slept in a long time. I attempted to stifle a yawn but was left unsuccessful. Cale laughed and layed down next to me. I could feel his breath on my ear.
"You should get some sleep", he whispered.
"I need a shower" I yawned again. He laughed and got off the bed. He grabbed my hand and helped me up, then led me across the hall to another mysterious room. "Ta-da" he said as he opened the door, "A second bathroom". This bathroom was much nicer than the one upstairs; it was larger, it had a larger bathtub, and it had a beautiful sliding glass door to the bathtub, whereas the upstairs bathroom just had an ugly white shower curtain.
"Do you need any assistance?" Cale grinned.
"No" I yawned. Cale frowned.
"Towels are in the closet". And he walked out the door, shutting it behind him. I stripped off my leggings, skirt, shirt, bra, and panties and stepped into the bathtub. The bathroom was cold; it left my body covered in goosebumps. I turned one handle to hot, then another handle to turn on the shower. A stream of hot water soaked my shivering frame. My tired legs were weak from a lack of sleep, so I decided to sit under the steamy cascade. Shampoo....There it is. I yawned and squirted some shampoo into my hand and lathered it into my hair. I yawned again and moved closer to the stream, closing my eyes as the soapy water ran down my face.
I opened my eyes to find myself in a bed - dry - and dressed. This wasn\'t my bed, nor was it Cale\'s or Wade\'s bed. I was alone in this bed and alone in this room. I looked around to find white walls, a small dresser with a mirror on top, and a vanity in the corner. I was safely tucked away beneath a white down comforter. I pulled the blankets off of me and stepped out of bed. The door opened and Cale and Maggie walked in.
"Hey, you\'re awake!" Maggie shouted. This was the happiest I had ever seen her, since I had pretty much only seen her in The Dungeon. I sat back on the bed.
"What happened?" I asked.
"You fell asleep in the shower" Cale responded, "I found you and put you here."
Found me? Naked? I blushed.
"Ahem", Maggie grunted, "Actually, I found you, and I tried to wake you up, but you were in a deep sleep, so I covered you in a towel and asked Wade to carry you here, where I dressed you and tucked you in. Hope you don\'t mind, you were in that shower for such a long time that when I found you, the water was freezing cold."
"No, not at all, thanks Maggie."
"No problem. Cale didn\'t help at all. He was, well, feeding."
Cale rolled his eyes.
"Well," I said, "Thanks for coming to check on me, Cale."
He smiled.
"So, where is Wade?" I asked.
Cale frowned again. Maggie must have noticed and she smiled.
"He\'s in his room. You sure you\'ve had enough sleep?"
"How long have I been asleep? What day is it?"
Maggie smiled. "It\'s Saturday, Noon. You got here Thursday night, so if you went to bed at 10 on Wednesday, I\'m guessing you went about....50 hours without sleep? You slept 12 hours, which is perfectly reasonable. We humans need a lot of sleep". She looked up at Cale smirking. Cale rolled his eyes. I got out of bed again.
"I\'m gonna go thank Wade." I walked passed a disappointed Cale and a still smirking Maggie.
I guessed I must have been wearing Maggie\'s clothes - tight black workout pants that went down to my knees, and a white tank top. Even though I was sleeping, I still wished Maggie had but a bra on me; I didn\'t want to thank Wade in white tank top with no bra. Hopefully it wasn\'t see-through.
I knocked on Wade\'s door and waited.
"Who is it?" he asked.
"Emilia".
Silence.
I heard Wade\'s footsteps to the door, the clicking of the lock, and the door swung open.
"Hi". I said.
"Hi". He said.
There was a small silence. Tension. Awkwardness? No, it wasn\'t an awkward silence. It was a welcoming silence.
"Um..do you feel fine?" Wade asked. His hands were in his pockets and he was hunched in a nervous slouch.
"Yeah, I feel great. I just wanted to thank you...for...you know, for carrying me to bed."
It sounded better in my head than it did when it came out.
"No problem". He said.
I walked forward a little bit and hugged his shoulders gently. He flinched and I barely felt his cold palms and fingertips touch my waist.
"No, really", I said in a whisper, "Thanks". Wade pulled back quickly and turned around.
"You must be hungry. Why don\'t you go upstairs and get some food?"
"Oh...okay." I turned around and walked back in the hall, closing the door behind me. I didn\'t realize it until I was out of Wade\'s room, but I actually was hungry. I walked back to the White Room to see Maggie and Cale still there, talking. Whispering.
"Hi, Emilia. What\'d Wade say?" Maggie asked.
"Um...nothing. I\'m hungry. Can I go upstairs and eat by myself or do I need an escort."
"I\'ll escort you". Cale said, pushing past Maggie. He grabbed my hand and led me upstairs
