Chapter 3

Standing with her back to the door Vicki held the counter hard and breathed deeply. Her head held down and eyes closed as she tried to control herself. She’d really let things go a little too far. But, even she was willing to admit that she wasn’t sure if the grocery delivery person coming was a good thing or if she wanted to slam his head into the door. Grinning she heard the growl in Henry’s voice as he told the boy to leave. So, he isn’t too happy about the interruption either. Either? Either! Victoria Nelson, there is no ‘either.’ She took another deep breath, held it and pushed the thought of ‘either’ out with her exhale. Food is a good thing. Gives us something to occupy our hands- um… Mouths…MINDS! Occupy our minds!

Placing the two bags on the counter, Henry stared at the rigid way that Vicki was holding herself. She looked like she was afraid what would happen next.

Stop. Her hand gripped the counter harder. Her already white knuckles cracking under the added pressure. Food. Another Deep breath. Think about food. She loosened her grip on the counter. Wonder what the Vampire has in his bags. Her eyes grew big again.

Cautiously, he walked over and placed his hand on her shoulder, his head near her ear so as to not frighten her. “Vicki?”

“AH!” Turning around rapidly, Vicki grabbed Henrys hand and started to twist under his extended arm, pulling the hand with her. Suddenly she found herself spinning with nothing in her hand and no control. Just as quickly she stopped. A bit breathless, a bit confused and suddenly very angry she screamed at the man who had the gall to look amused by her actions. “What the hell was that about!”

As Henry opened his mouth to respond, Vicki stalked past him and out of the kitchen.

“Just because you have Vampire super powers doesn’t mean that you should always employ them. There was no reason for you to sneak up behind me or to use your speed to throw me off balance like that.” Standing in front of the front door. She turned around in a circle, clearly looking for something. Clearly missing it in her anger and rush to leave.

Raising a brow, Henry just walked to the kitchen doorway and leaned against it. His arms folded across his chest helped curb the desire to drag the infernal woman back into the room. The irked frustration soon morphed into the true source of all his trouble with Vicki as her hands patted her body in search of whatever she’d misplaced. He was sure he was being tortured as her hands patted along the butt he’d imagined so many times. It brought pictures to his mind that were safer left untouched.

Clearing his throat of what stopped it, he asked, “Is there something you need help getting?”
Stopping, Vicki stood with her hands on her hips but her eyes slightly averted. “Keys. I need the keys to my apartment.”

Slowly Henry moved to an erect position and smoothly walked to Vicki. He stopped just inside her personal space. A minor intrusion but one he knew she was very sensitive to. Moving just his left arm, the right still wrapped around his chest, his hand grasped her right thigh. The grip strong and sure as it slid up, brushing the inner seam of her jeans, up to the joint between leg and torso. He couldn’t help the smile that began to tug on his lips or the involuntary clenching of his right fist as Vicki’s still averted eyes closed.

Pulling his hand away slightly, he left just the tips of his fingers to continue their trail up, around her right hip pocket and just barely, the briefest of moments really, touching the zipper of her jeans before moving back to the opening of the pocket. Without preamble, Henry plunged his fingers in, wiggling them around so as to get further into the dark folds of her jeans. Until, his hands met metal. Pulling out the keys he held them, chiming their jarring jingles, in front of Vicki.

Turning her head to finally look at him, Vicki almost caused Henry to stop breathing. Her eyes were almost as dark as his were when he fed. Taking a step forward, her lips parted. Leaning down, he kept a close eye on her face. Hoping to see her finally give over completely to sensation. When he realized she wasn’t going to Henry growled, pulled Vicki completely against him and kissed her with as much desire as he could safely unleash—hoping to force her under sensation and pleasure enough to win her. Even if it was just for a moment.

The feel of Henry’s lips against her own was like having a dream come true. She desperately tried to get around the idea that this was the first time he’d kissed her to just kiss her, not for any other reason but to feel her against him. To drink in her little sounds of pleasure.

Just as he felt her body completely relax, her back stiffened and she pulled away. Her eyes told the whole story. She’d decided on control over him again.

Without a word, Vicki picked up the discarded keys and walked to the door. Turning just enough to see Henry standing with his hands back across his chest, she sighed. Well shit. “I’ll…um…see you later.”

“Yeah. Bye.”

Turning away from the closing door, Henry rubbed the back of his head in agitation. “Why did I think that she could ever stand to not be in control?” Scoffing his frustration, he had the urge to hit something. “As if her self-restraint could compare to mine.”

Just as she was about to close the door completely, Vicki stopped. HE thinks what?! Suddenly very motivated she turned, pushed the door open, stepped through, slammed it shut and rushed the Vampire standing behind the couch.
