Bloody Hooves

We wandered in the desert for days. Molassess never let the baby horus out of her protective sight. The night after we left our home, Red tried to drown the baby. Tep stopped him in time but for now none of us are talking to him, all but Syrus of course, to young to have the concept of a grudge.

"Pappy, why is everyone ignoring you?" He asked.

"Be off you pest, go play with a serket." Red snorted.

"Grump."

"What's that ahead? It can't be another river." Geb asked me.

"I thought it was but no matter how much we walk towards it we still can't reach it." None of us at the time knew anything about mirages.

"Let's go another way." Tep lead us through a sandstorm.

Molassess kept stopping to lick the sand off the baby's fur.

"All that geb can't be good for you." Red remarked.

When the storm overwelmed us we gathered in a circle with our heads joined in the middle, creating a roof over the baby. After the storm ebbed we heard wailing over the hills.

"I know that sound we should keep moving but don't run or they'll hear us." Said Red.

"What are they Pappy?" Syrus asked a bit scared and pressing his body against my side.

"Wildseths, keep movinng, and Molassess you should drop that burden he'll get us all killed!"Red started withoutwaiting for a response. The wailing got closer, our hooves moved faster until the brutes were biting at our heels. Tep did something unorthidox, he turned and ran toward our pursuers and fought back. Our people don't do things this way. I saw a bit of Djoser in Tep when we saw a wildseths blood on Teps hooves, and no matter how hard they bit and scratched Tep kept fighting soon Red joined, followed by Geb, then I found myself standing over a wildseth dying at my feet. I was compelled to finish him off.

Wennet was too tame to go wild like the rest of us and my son syrus took shelter with the baby horus behind Molassess who would have probably joined the frenzy if she hadn't been guarding precious cargo.
