Ch 3
A/N - Well lookie here. Another update.
The four of us followed a furious looking Cicily into a nearby empty classroom. Once the door was shut she let out a bone chilling growl, her beautiful face contorted in rage. "Vampires! Here! How dare they?" She began pacing back and forth, and I sat down in the nearest desk, my body still shaking from the stress of being so near one. If there is one thing lycanthropes can't stand, it's vampires. I noticed that Benjamin looked particularly shaken and nodded my head towards him, questioning Thomas with my eyes.
"Two of them came into our Calculus class." Thomas said, his voice an octave lower than usual. "A female and a male. I felt them before they even got into the classroom."
"There was a male in my history class..." I whispered.
"A female in gym..." Adrian continued.
"And another male in biology." Cicily finished, her eyes remaining a haunting yellow the entire time she spoke now. "It's a coven of them."
"But why are they here?" Benjamin asked, his jaw clenched tight.
"I don't think it's a coincedence that a coven of vampires show up in the same place as our pack, making sure to tail us in our classes. I'm guessing they knew we were here and want something." Cicily said, her eyes slowly returning to ice blue. She sighed a defeated sigh. "That settles that. No hunt tonight. We need to talk to Viktor."
Under any other circumstances an announcement like that would have thrown us all into an uproar, but as it was we all sat solemnly and nodded in agreement. After a moment of silence she spoke again.
"We better get to class."
Walking out of the classroom, all of our hearts were filled with rage at the filthy bloodsuckers. Vampires and lycanthropes had always hated each other, but at least respected each other's boundaries. I was never the aggressive one, but even I felt my blood churn at the thought of them. The five of us formed order in the hallway, Cicily in the front with the rest of us fanning out behind her. I looked at the humans as they all stepped back and watched us, their eyes glazed over like fish brought the land. There was always something empowering about our pack and the effect we had on humans. It reminded me who we were. Something to be feared. People pressed back to try and make room for us, but one girl didn't quite make it fast enough, the edge of her notebook snagging my arm. It stung for a moment, but I knew it would heal faster than any human wound. We kept walking, our faces all stern.
I felt the familiar tingle on the back of my neck, and instantly we all knew what was going to happen. We sensed them, even before the five of them rounded the corner. I almost broke stride at the sight of them, but managed to keep step, knowing Cicily was walking right towards them gave me a bit of confidence. She was fearless. I saw the boy from my class at the front of them. I took in immediately that he was their leader. Next to him was a boy with sharp features and chesnut hair that layed flat in the front and spiked in the back. The other male was almost as breathtaking as the leader. His hair looked well-kept, but it was the color that suprised me most. It was without it, to be exact, as white as snow. Even Cicily's shone golden in certain lights, but not this man's. I glanced at the two females. Both were beautiful, one with a pixie cut dyed shocking purple and the other with long spirals of deep blond. They were all hauntingly stunning, and they all shared the same pale skin.
By the time I had taken them all in we were approaching them, Cicily's head held high as the rest of us put on our game faces. I saw Adrian shudder out of the corner of my eye, and swiftly, without thinking, I turned to him. It was a seamless act, as he knew what was coming and bent down to allow me access. I grazed the tip of my nose across his temple, in a sign of both dominance and comfort. I turned back, neither of us missing a step. I doubt any of the humans even noticed we moved at all. When I looked back at the vampires, I noticed the one with white hair was watching me. I was willing to guess he had not missed it.
Adrian's nervousness gave me the courage to put on a stony face while I stared down the white haired one. Cicily stopped in front of the dark haired one, Roman, from my classroom, her chin tilted up in a sign of dominance. I wondered how the meeting appeared to the humans around us. Most were also stopped, but talking to one another, none of them too near to us and none of them seeming to notice. I was suprised when the bell rang and the humans began to scatter to their classes, the rest of us remaining perfectly still in the hallway. The final doors closed and I realized that these vampires could turn this into a fight, and blow our cover. The thought made a growl slip from my throat before I had time to stop it. Cicily remained still, but Thomas turned to me and lifted and eyebrow, apparently suprised at my aggression. I gave him a knowing look and looked back to the faces of the vampires. The girls, along with the brown haired boy looked tense, but the white and black haired boys seemed more relaxed.
"You can stand down little pups, we're not here to fight." I couldn't see her face, but I knew Cicily's eyes must have flashed at that.
"Then why are you here?" she said evenly, stepping forward in an act of aggression. The blond vampire girl hissed, exposing razor like fangs, but remained where she was. The black haired one let his gaze flicker to mine for a second and I felt the blood rise to my face.
"We just wanted to see how... hospitable you'd be. I have to say, so far you have not shown yourselves to be quite the happy welcome wagon."
There was something about his voice that was different. It was melodic and dark, the rises and falls of it casting shadows all over his words. A dull throbbing entered my head. Something wasn't right. My muscles cramped, before going totally limp, my body feeling like it was under immense pressure. My breathing became less even, and I noticed Cicily stiffen. She must have heard. Suddenly the hallway was spinning and I felt myself stumble, crashing into a locker. My pack was around me in a flash, Cicily's calm but demanding voice asking me what was wrong. I tried to look at her, but I couldn't focus on anyone's face. I lurched to the side, before slamming back into the lockers, letting out a very canine yelp as a lock clipped above my right eye. I felt the warm wet blood trickle down my face as my pack tried to calm me, slowly circling in on me.
"No." Cicily barked, motioning for them to get back. If I could have thanked her, I would. I felt like I was suffocating, and fell to my and hands knees, coughing and gasping for breath. I fell onto my back, arching up and clawing at my throat, sweat drenching me. Slowly the edges of my vision faded black and I knew what was coming before it reached. My eyes seemed to give a final struggle and focused on the suprised face of the dark haired vampire before unconsciousness took me.
