Chapter three: Meet Chase Adam's
HOOOOOOONNNNNNKKKKK!!!!!
"AHHH!!!" Leila screamed and tumbled off the bed landing on the floor with a loud thump in a heap of covers, with a start from the sudden deafening sound. Standing above her bed with amused expressions were Dayne, Jaiden and Chase. Chase is Dru's son who he had adopted when he was only five back when Leila was just a kid herself. The two had grown up together and become best friends.
Leila sat up and looked over her bed with wide blue eyes, her dark curls tousled from sleep and her mouth agape in shock staring at the three boys who were almost rolling on the floor with laughter.
"What the HELL do you knuckle-heads think you're doing?" Leila spat once her recklessly beating heart calmed a little.
"Lei, you forget it's a Sunday, babe?" Chase asked between chuckles. Leila blinked at him and then scowled. "We have training, like we do every Sunday morning." He informed her with a charming smile, his brown eyes dancing with amusement.
"I know that, but was it really necessary to wake and nearly scare me half to death with a fog horn at eight in the morning?" Leila snapped rubbing her ringing ears with a sneer.
Dayne chuckled. "Well, was it necessary when you dumped a bucket full of freezing water on me last week?" He asked with a toothy grin. Leila scowled at him as she clambered back up to her feet.
"Even so, that was a cheap shot. I think I lost half my hearing thanks to you bitches." She grumbled rubbing her sore ears.
"Well, next time set your alarm clock so we won't have to wake you, sister dear." Jaiden told her with a smug grin.
"I really hate you. But this is so not over; I'll get you back for this Jaiden Andrew Callaway. And you!" She said pointing an accusing finger at Chase who was still grinning.
"Oh come on, Leila. It was funny. I mean if you could have seen your face...priceless!" he said with a chuckle.
"You're supposed to be on my side, we've been friends since we were like six." She complained with a pout.
"Yeah but these guys are hilarious. Besides, you know I would never miss a chance to tease you, sweets." Chase responded.
Leila sent a withering look at him and he just smiled charmingly in response before she hurled a pillow at him, which much to Leila's dismay he dodged with ease.
"Get out of my room I'll meet you downstairs in five minutes." She told the boys with a pout. She glared at them when they all stood there looking at her expectantly. She rolled her eyes and sighed in defeat. "Fine, twenty minutes." She said and walked into her bathroom as the boys grinned and walked out.

"Got to get up, got to get up, got to get up
Got to get up, got to get up, got to get up
And time won't take my love away"
When Leila finally got herself ready for training the boys were outside the house waiting for her clad in their training attire which was either, a white or black wife beater and loose Nike track suits.
Leila took a sip of her water and stretched quickly before meeting the boys out front for their three mile run. This was a weekly thing for Leila, ever since she was a teenager her and Chase would get together and train together on Sunday mornings. It was only since the boys turned sixteen and decided to become models they had to fix up their physique that they joined the two.
"You ready Princess?" Chase asked with a teasing smile as she approached them.
"Sure am, baby cakes." She said with a seductive smile of her own. Chase chuckled at the nickname and shook his head as they made their way to the beautiful park half a mile down the road.
Chase easily caught up with Leila as she began her jog once they got to the park. "Hey princess, I've been calling you for the past few days. Where you been?" Chase asked.
Leila shrugged indifferently. "I've been busy, with work and stuff." She said looking over at him for a second before looking ahead.
"Lei, are you mad at me?"
Leila shook her head. "No, why would I be mad at you?" she asked enquiringly.
Chase shrugged. "I don't know. You seem to be avoiding me, I mean I haven’t seen you since Marvita's, and that was a week ago." He questioned.
"Well whose fault was that?" she asked hotly. Chase's brows shot up at the tone of her voice.
"See I knew it, you're mad. What did I do, sweets?" he asked poking her side and she slapped his hand away.
"Nothing, so don’t worry about it," she said and picked up her speed but Chase caught up with her easily.
"C'mon, sweets you know me better than that. What did I do to upset you?"
Leila sighed. "You ditched me." she mumbled.
Chase's eyes widened with surprise. "I ditched you, when?" Leila shook her head.
"Last week, and the week before that, you called me and told me to go to Marvita's with you and you disappear the second we get there." She told him with a huff.
Chase blinked and thought back to the event. "Oh, that’s what you're mad about?" He asked with a smile.
Leila gave him a disbelieving look. "Why are you smiling, it is not funny. It's not the first time it has happened either." She scowled.
Chase laughed heartily and almost tripped on a rock. "I'm sorry, sweets. You know how it is." He said trying to tweak her nose but she pushed him away lightly.
"Yeah I do. You ask me to go out with you and then you ditch me because some ditz drags you away." Chase grinned.
"Are you jealous, sweets?" he asked with a throaty laugh. Leila shot him a look that said 'YOU WISH!'
"In your dreams, See unlike those girls you whore around with I actually have a thing called a brain." She shot back.
"Hey, will you two stop trying to flirt and hurry up, some of us do have other things to do ya know." Dayne said as he whizzed past them Jaiden following close behind heaving for breath.
"Damn it, Dayne. Slow the fuck down!" Jaiden huffed chasing after his brother.
Leila did her best to ignore Chase for the rest of the run, at least until they got to the gym back at the house. She wasn't really mad at Chase for ditching her; she understood why he was fawned over by girls everywhere he went. It was simple...he's hot!
However unlike those girl's Leila got to know the guy at a deeper level. She knew him ever since they were kids, they literally grew up together. After Dru got married to his husband Keenan, they had wanted to have a baby.
After looking for a surrogate mother, which was unsuccessful. The couple decided to adopt. So after months of waiting they fostered Chase, a little dark skin boy with brown eyes and brown hair. Dru being Dru fell in love with him immediately and vice versa.
After spending three months in care with Dru, Chase went back to the foster care, but refused to go home with anyone other than Dru and Keenan. Isabelle and Jordan of course helped and together they hired the best lawyer for legal adoption of Chase Cartwright, who now goes by Chase Adams.
Once the foursome got back to the house, they piled into the gym and began their weekly workout. Dayne was currently on the boxing bag; Jaiden was on the mat doing his ten sets of hundred sit-ups and four sets of fifty push-ups.
And Chase was lifting weights on a bench press. His dark chin length curly hair tied back into a pony-tail with a few stands fallen out and was now in his deep brown eyes. His body glistening with sheer sweat from his intense workout, if Leila had been any other girl she would have swooned, but after knowing the guy from the age of six, she somehow became immune to his hot body and exotic looks. But by all means not blind!
Leila shook her head of any inane thoughts of Chase Adams and continued her run on the treadmill.
Forty-five minutes later Leila retired to the steam room while the boys began a friendly sparring match. The door to the steam room opened and Chase stepped in wearing a towel which hung dangerously low on his hips.
"Jesus, it's freaking hot in here." Chase mumbled as he slid on a wooden bench.
"Well, it is a steam room, Chase." Leila said patently and heard Chase chuckle. "If you can't hack it, then by all means, get lost. I could do with the peace and quiet."
"Leila, baby, you're hurting my feelings." Chase quipped mockingly.
"Good, though, I wasn’t aware that you were capable of possessing any feelings." She spat closing her eyes.
Chase slid over to where Leila was laying on the top bench and regarded her closely. "Come on, muffin. You know just as well as I, that you can not stay mad at me for long." He said leaning over to rest his head on her stomach but Leila scoffed and pushed it away and responded with silence.
Chase sighed. "Leila, please. Anything but the silent treatment, you know I can’t stand that. I'm sorry for ditching you, sweets. Let me make it up to you?" he said poking her in the ribs. "Let's go out tonight."
"No, I have plans." She said flippantly.
"Doing what?" Chase questioned curiously.
"Not that it's any of your business, but I have a date." Chase perked up and looked at her.
"With who...?"
"None of your business," She told him gravely.
"Leila, are you lying to me?"
Leila scoffed. "No, why would I lie to you?"
"I don’t know, you tell me. I thought you were done with dating?" he questioned his brown eyes twinkling.
"Well, I was. Until you ditched me last week and I met a really nice guy." She told him with a fake smile.
Chase nodded. "Really, and what's this 'really nice guy's' name?" he questioned.
"Why do you care?"
Chase smiled "Just curious."
Leila opened her eyes and regarded him sceptically. "Adrian Fox,"
"Kinda of a-"
Leila shot him a death glare. "Don’t you dare say it." she warned him pointing a finger.
"Alright, alright, put the finger down before you hurt somebody." He laughed and Leila rolled her eyes. "But seriously, cancel your date and come out with me. I really miss you Leila. I haven’t seen or spoken to you in five days and that’s just one day too many without you." he said taking her hand and placing a kiss in the centre on her palm.
Leila bit her lip and pondered over his idea. She had missed him terribly over the week; the boy is definitely entertaining to hang out with. And Adrian did say he just wanted them to stay in anyway. "Fine, but I swear if you ditch me again tonight, I will never forgive you again, got it?" Chase smiled with triumph.
"I won't, I promise." He told her. "What do you wanna do anyway?" he asked lying down beside her.
Leila shrugged. "I don’t know. I'm kind tired of the same old places. We should go and check out someplace else."
"Mmm, I think I know the best place." Chase said with a smirk. Leila leaned over and looked at him.
"Oh yeah, where is that?" she asked curiously.
"You'll see, my sweet." He told her and closed his eyes.
****
"Oh bloody hell." Isabelle mumbled as she perched down to pack stuff into boxes. She was currently in the middle of her annual clearout of the attic. She picked up at fuzzy object that looked like a soft toy and threw it in a box for charity.
Squeak...squeak.
Isabelle stopped what she was doing and frowned. "What the hell was that?" she asked looking around.
Squeak!
Isabelle pulled a box back and her blue eyes widened when she saw a grey mouse behind an old box. "AHHHH!" She screamed with full throttle and jumped around the attic hysterically.
"OH GOD, OH GOD, OH MY GOD!" she squealed jumping on a chair. In the distance rushed footsteps were heard.
"Isabelle?" Jordan came running into the attic to find his wife on a chair squealing. "What's wrong baby, what is it?" he asked worriedly. Isabelle looked around the floor anxiously.
"Rat, there's a rat." She squealed pointing at the boxes. Jordan frowned.
"What?" he asked confused. Isabelle pointed to the boxes in front of her.
"There's a goddamn rat in this house." She spat with a shudder her blue eyes darting around the room.
Squeak!
"LOOK, THERE IT IS!" She shrieked. "KILL IT, KILL IT!" the white mouse runs in between Jordan's legs.
"FUCK!" he cursed loudly hopping around the room and jumping up on a chair beside Isabelle.
"What the hell are you doing, kill it damn it!" she said pushing him off the chair.
"Woman, are you crazy?" he asked hopping on the chair again. Isabelle shot him a stunned look.
"What's going on up here?" Dayne asked with a confused frown. "Mom, dad, what are you doing on the chairs. And why are you holding a broom?" he asked his father. By now Jaiden, Leila and Chase came running into the attic after hearing all the screaming.
"We have rats." Isabelle told them.
"WHAT?" Leila shrieked horrified. "WHERE IS IT?" she asked hiding behind Chase who laughed.
Isabelle looked around the room for the vermin and yelped when she saw it in the corner of the room. "THERE!" she said pointing.
Leila squealed and jumped on an old sofa. "Oh my god, do something." She said slapping Dayne and Jaiden who were chuckling.
"Oh relax, it's just a mouse. It's totally harmless." Chase said looking around the room.
"Get that thing out of here!" Isabelle told them. "I will not get down from this chair until you find that thing and kill it. Or get it at least a thousand miles away from this house." She told the boys.
"Dad why are you on the chair?" Jaiden asked his father who was holding a broom in his hands.
Jordan's brown eyes widened. "Uh, well, I get a better view of the floor from here, so I can see it to kill it, and I'm protecting your mother." he told them clearing his throat.
The boys chuckled. "Riiight," Jaiden said with a chuckle. "Of course,"
Jordan frowned. "Boy, are you mocking me?" he asked somewhat sternly.
Jaiden cleared his throat. "Me? No way. I'm just saying you look real manly up there what with the broom and all." Jaiden said and all the boys snickered.
"Boy, don’t make me get off this chair." Jordan said pointing the broom at his sons.
"Would you twerps stop messing around and find that thing." Leila told them.
"No, go and get the yellow pages and call an exterminator. God only knows the whole house is infested." Isabelle ordered. Jaiden and Dayne walked out laughing.
"Alright, I am so not staying here tonight. Chase, can I stay at yours tonight?" Leila asked and Chase nodded.
"Oh sure, sweet's." Chase said with a chuckle. Isabelle studied the two and a smile played on her lips.
"Um, Leila I don’t think-" Jordan began but Isabelle cut him off.
"That’s a great idea, honey. We're going to book into a hotel for a few days too. There is no way in hell I am staying in this house with those things running around." Isabelle said with a shudder.
"Oh great, I'll just go grab some stuff from my room. Um..." Leila looked around the room uncertainly.
Chase chuckled. "Come on princess, hop on." He told her turning his back to her for a piggy back.
Leila grinned and hopped on his back. "See you guys later..." Leila called out.
Jordan watched his daughter leave with Dru's son and he scowled. "Okay, should I be worried?" he asked worriedly.
"Not at all," She said with a sigh but shrieked when she spotted the mouse again.
****
"So where are we going tonight?" Leila asked slipping into her red dress in the bathroom.
"It's a surprise." Chase said from his bedroom while fishing for a shirt.
"Oh, okay. Well am I over dressed then?" Leila asked opening the door and revealing herself to Chase who was pulling his shirt on.
Chase looked her up and down for a minute and grinned. "No, you look great." He told her. Leila smiled pleased and looked down at her outfit once more. She wore a short fitted red dress with a pair of black leather knee high boots. Her dark hair was curled and hung loosely down her back.
"You ready to go?" Chase asked grabbing his wallet and keys. Leila nodded and picked up her purse and followed him out of the room.
An hour later the pair was sat at a table for two in the classy karaoke bar, 'Blue Rose' "A Karaoke bar?" Leila laughed lightly as they were seated and someone was up on stage singing a very bad version of Blondie's 'I touch myself'
"Yep, I thought it would be fun." Chase told her while he sat himself down beside her.
"Well, I can safely say I have never been here before." Leila said looking around the room, her blue eyes twinkling.
Chase laughed. "I figured, I came here a few times with a few friends and had a laugh, so I thought it would be nice to get away from the usual crowd." he told her as a waitress came to the table.
"Hi, my name is Tami and I'll be your waitress this evening." She said with a sugary smile directed straight at Chase.
"Hi Tami, I think I'll start off with a beer, how about you sweets?" Chase asked Leila who was looking through the drinks menu.
"Um, I'll have a dirty martini, two olives please." Leila said with a polite smile only to receive a cut up look from Tami, who walked off after throwing a seductive smile towards Chase. "Hmm, I've been with you ten minutes and I'm getting death glares already." Leila pointed put and Chase laughed.
"Oh ignore them, sweets." Chase said throwing his arm around her shoulder and placing a kiss on her temple. "They can look all they want; you're the only woman I'll be leaving with tonight." He whispered in her ear making Leila quiver inwardly.
"Mmm, I better be, for the sake of our friendship and your balls." Leila mumbled as their drinks came.
"My balls...?" Chase asked with a soft chuckle and Leila nodded sipping her drink.
"Yep, you leave me here alone tonight, and I swear you'll be leaving with your balls jammed so far up your own ass you'll need surgery to remove them." She told him with a cocky grin.
"Wow, that’s...graphic." Chase said with a throaty laugh.
Leila grinned in return. "That’s right, know your role." She warned him playfully.
The two continued bickering at each other playfully and now moved on to drinking tequila shots. Leila was beginning to feel the buzz of the alcohol where as Chase was taking it slow.
"Come on please, Chase?" Leila whined tugging on his shirts sleeve. "Please sing something for me?"
"Alright, fine. But after you're singing with me, deal?" he asked and Leila nodded.
"Deal," she agreed and watched as Chase began flipping through the song lists. "What are you gonna sing?" she asked leaning forward but Chase closed the book before she could see.
"It's a surprise." He said with a wink and walked up on stage with a round of applause and catcalls from women. He punched in the songs code and it began playing softly.
He licked his lips and stepped up to the microphone. "I could hardly believe it
when I heard the news today. I had to come and get it straight from you. They said you were leaving. Someone swept you heart away. From the look upon your face I see it's true. So tell me all about it, tell me 'bout the plans you're makin'. Then tell me one thing more before I go..." He sang softly his eyes gazing into Leila's who was smiling softly at him.
"Tell me how, am I supposed to live without you. Now that I've been, loving you so long. How am I supposed to live without you? How am I supposed to carry on? When all that I've been living for is gone..."
"Didn't come here for crying, didn't come here to breakdown. It's just a dream of mine is coming to an end. And how can I blame you? When, I built my world around the hope that one day we'd be so much more than friends. And I don't wanna know the price I'm gonna pay for dreaming. When even now it's more than I can take..." Leila mouthed the words along with him as he continued singing to her.
"And I don't wanna face the price I'm gonna pay for dreaming
Now that your dream has come true. Tell me how, am I supposed to live without you. Now that I've been, loving you so long. How am I supposed to live without you? How am I supposed to carry on? When all that I've been living for is gone..."he finished with a wink and smile directed to Leila. The room exploded with applause and chants of "More, more, more."
Chase laughed and held his hand out to Leila. "Get up here you..." he said into the microphone. Leila took one last shot of tequila and joined him on stage and took a mic.
"What are we singing, I better know it." Leila said and Chase grinned.
"Oh you know this, honey." He said and the song began playing and Leila laughed and shook her head.
"Grease..." she asked and Chase nodded enthusiastically.
"I got chills. They're multiplyin'. And I'm losin' control. 'Cause the power. You're suplyin', its electrifyin." Chase sang and Leila laughed again.
"You better shape up, 'cause I need a man, and my heart is set on you. You better shape up; you better understand to my heart I must be true." Leila sang to him and Chase clutched his heart playfully.
"Nothin' left, nothin' left for me to do...." Chase sang back to her.
"You're the one that I want. Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey. The one that I want,
ooh, ooh, ooh, honey. The one that I want, Ooh-ooh-ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed." They sang to each other dancing.
"If you're filled with affection, you're too shy to convey. Meditate in my direction
Feel your way."
"I better shape up, 'Cause you need a man." Chase sang gazing into her eyes.
"I need a man, who can keep me satisfied." She sang back poking him in the chest.
"I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove." Chase sang
"You better prove that my faith is justified." Leila sang.
"Are you sure?" he sang
"Yes I'm sure down deep inside."
"You're the one that I want. Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey. The one that I want,
ooh, ooh, ooh, honey. The one that I want, Ooh-ooh-ooh, the one I need
Oh, yes indeed." They sang together until the music faded and the crown cheered.
***
After a few more shots, the dup left the bar and headed back to Chase's apartment. Leila wasn't completely inebriated, but she was way past tipsy.
The silent Sunday evening was filled with echoes of a laughing couple. Leila clutched her stomach from laughing so hard, tears were streaming down her cheeks. "Wh-Why a-am I l-laughing again?" she asked between breaths.
Chase who was less intoxicated laughed along with her. "I don’t know why you're laughing. But I'm laughing at you, sweets." he told her as he wrapped an arm around her waist holding her against him.
"Oh my god, this has been such a crazy night..."Leila said as they reached Chase's apartment.
"Indeed it has. Kind of like the good old days huh?" he asked looking down at her. Leila nodded.
"Unquestiona...unquestionabab...unquestionally," Leila mumbled and Chase laughed.
"Unquestionably...?" Chase offered and Leila nodded.
"Yes! That’s the word right there. God you're incredible." She said with a laugh but snorted.
Chase looked at her with an amused expression. "Bad boy, bad boy, whatcha' gon dooo," She sang loudly with giggle. "Whatcha gonna do when I come for yoooou." She poked him in the chest.
"Shh, you're gonna wake the neighbours, princess." He said in a gentle voice. Leila leaned on the door waiting for him to open it.
"Chase...?" she asked in a whisper as the door opened.
"Yes princess?" he asked sweeping her off her feet and carrying her inside. Leila giggled and buried her nose into the crook of his neck.
"You smehln gratihe." She mumbled coherently. Chase frowned and looked down at her.
"What was that sweetheart, I didn’t catch that?" he asked as they neared the bedroom.
Leila pulled her head back and looked at him. "I said," she smiled lazily at him. "You smell great." Chase grinned.
"Well I should think so, you bought it for me for my birthday." he chuckled as he laid her down on the bed. Leila sighed tiredly and gazed up into his brown eyes, her arms still locked around his neck.
"You should get some sleep, babe." he told her in a soft whisper. Leila continued gazing into his eyes, with her wide blue ones.
"I um..." she swallowed hard as she lost herself within the depths of his eyes. Chase watched her closely, her soft pink lips parted invitingly. "Kiss me..." she breathed.
*****
Oooh cliffy. I wonder what happens. Will Chase give in and kiss her or will he do the right thing? What do you guys think of Chase? Yay or Nay?
Well review and as always I will deliver...thanks!
