Chapter 2
Chance meetings

Alex’s iron grip left my shoulder as I slumped to the ground unable to hole myself up. Seconds later I herd the sickening sound of bone shattering followed by a soft thump on the ground next to me. Darkness quickly began to flood my mind and senses. So thick I could barely breath, it was like I was drowning in it. I fought it with all the strength I had left. Kicking and screaming only to fall further into it. As I was about to give up a familiar sound cut through the darkness like a knife. His angelic voice reached my ears filled with concern and rage.
“Sara…Sara are you alright!?”
My mouth moved but no sound came out. I started to panic as the darkness moved back in only to be stilled by his voice once more.
“Please answer me….Sara…” his voice more concerned then angry now pleaded.
I felt his gentle touch on my cheek. I line of coolness following the flow of his fingers as he let them run down to my chin.
My body trembled under his fingers the coolness of his touch sending shivers down my spine. The darkness began to creep in again, but before it could I willed myself to open my eyes only to be met by his beautiful green ones staring back at mine.
“D- Damien….” Was all I could but whisper as his arms wrapped around me.
“Thank god your ok.” His grip on me tightened a little and I could hear the relief in his voice.
I tired to look to the side where I had herd the soft thump earlier but found I had no energy to.
“What about Alex?” My voice broke as I said his name, fear shooting through me once more.
“You don’t need to worry about that bastard anymore.” The anger was once more noticeable in his tone.
“But….” I tried to protest but was cut off by his finger on my lips.
“No buts, I took care of it.”
My voice trembled remembering the sound of bone breaking and I actually feared for Alex’s safety. “H-how?”
A smirk appeared on his face. “Lets just say I knocked some damn good sense into him.”
I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could he took me up in his arms and started walking away. “That’s enough talk for right now. You look like shit and need to get some rest. So sleep, don’t worry ill keep you safe.”
A prick of annoyance filled my eyes from his words, but I couldn’t deny it. I probably did look like shit. So I nodded in agreement and rested my head against his chest. Closing my eyes and finally giving into the darkness I had been fighting off for so long.

When I finally came to my senses once more I found that the cool night air no longer surrounded me. Instead I was safely tucked under the quilt of my bed. I looked around still half-asleep and saw him. Sitting quietly in the lounge chair in the corner of my room staring back at me.
“How are you feeling?” his voice was low and quiet. I was barely able to hear him.
“I’m feeling better thank you.” I sat up in the bed pulling the quilt away. “How long was I asleep?”
“Not too long. Three hours at most.”
“Three hours?” Surprise rose in me as my eyes widened a little. “You stayed here for three hours while I was asleep?”
“I said I would protect you didn’t I?” He sounded hurt that I didn’t take his words to heart earlier. “And I very well couldn’t have done that if I just left you here and ran off. Plus I wanted to make sure you were going to be ok.”
I blushed a little “You really didn’t have to do that.”
He shrugged getting up and walking over to the bed. It sank a little with his weight as he sat next to me.
“I didn’t mind staying.”
My mind began to finally catch up with the rest of me when I remember my mom was at home. I froze in place afraid if she knew he was in my room or not, and worse if she knew what had happened with Alex.
“What about my mom?” I managed to choke out. “Dose she know you’re here?”
His smile returned. “No, she was asleep when I brought you. I mad sure to be extra sneaky coming in. She won’t suspect a thing in the morning.”
I sighed in relief “Well that’s good. I don’t think I could take her yelling at me that early in the morning.”
“You and your mother don’t get along?”
“No,” I looked down at the bed picking at the faded blue quilt. “Ever since my dad died we’ve don’t nothing but fought.”
“That’s a shame.”
He placed his hand on top of mine that was picking at the bedding. I looked up at him and almost forgot how to breathe. I really hadn’t a chance to take a good look at him in the darkness of the night and my dreams did him no justice. His green eyes were piercing yet beautiful, set in pale skin. His face was lean and I noticed he had slight dimples in his cheeks, which made me smile. His hair hung just past his brow shaggy and dark. Almost black with hints of silver highlights threw out. I was right about the piercings. I hadn’t noticed though before that both his ears were pierced as well, but the ring in his eyebrow had been replaced by a black barbell. Though the one in his lip remand the same silver loop. Which left me now at his lips, they were perfect! I was tempted to lean in and give then a kiss but tore my mind away from the idea as I looked at the rest of him. My gaze moved down to notice he wore a plain black T-shirt and basic blue jeans. He gently squeezed my hand and I looked over to his long pale fingers loosely wrapped around my own.
“Is something wrong?” He sounded puzzled yet slightly amused.
I looked back up at him a smirk playing at my lips.
“No, I’m just fine and dandy.”
He smiled chuckling quietly. I looked at him a little confused.
“What? What did I do?” He chuckled again.
“Its nothing don’t worry about it.”
I pulled my hand out from under his and crossed my arms pouting my lips slightly.
“Tell me please”
He looked out the window then back to me.
“Another time. Now I must be leaving.”
Sadness filled me. Why did he want to leave? Was it something I said?
“But why all of a sudden?”
He motioned outside, and I looked out the window to see the sunrise starting to peek over the horizon.
“It’ll be morning soon and I doubt you want your mother finding me in your room.” He smiled.
“Yeah, I guess your right. That would be a really bad thing.” My gaze fell once more on the bed.
“Don’t worry, we’ll see each other again. Trust me.”
With that he got up, but not before leaning in and kissing me gently on the forehead. My heart raced in my chest and I was afraid it was going to burst. A quiet laugh was all that escaped his lips as he walked over to the door and opened it silently. I looked up at him.
“But when? When will I see you again?”
“How dose tomorrow night sound?”
“That sounds good to me.” I smiled back at him.
“Tomorrow night it is then.”
I glanced quickly back out the window. “Where….?” But when I turned back around to face him he was already gone. The door shut behind him as though he had never been there at all. I looked over to the lounge chair in the corner remembering how he looked. Sitting there so at ease, yet worried in some way. I smiled to myself before getting out of bed to take a shower. Thinking only of the night to come.
