III. Memory
(Yeah, I'm making short chapters on purpose. Thanks for reading! I hope you like it so far.)
Ehlisa gave a small whimper as waking up in the still darkness. It had been… What? Two days? She didn’t know how long had it been already. She could still remember clearly, sitting happily in her living room’s nice carpet, watching the light stream through the window, the dust’s delicate dance visible, hypnotizing her into sleepiness, on a warm day in her little village, on whose outskirts she shared a small and nice white house with her mom and dad.
Then they came. Her sensitive ears started to tell her something outside the door was amiss, but the loud sound immediately afterwards startled her even before she saw the door fly off its hinges. But then she was also fast, and she had no trouble in running off to her mother’s side, hide behind the long flowery skirt she liked so much.
The men with the big guns streamed in the little living room, turning and breaking things as they moved in the small space. Her dad was there before Ehlisa even had time to scream, she had a glimpse of blood, and her father’s fierce face as he slashed a kitchen knife across one of those men’s neck, before she pressed her small face to her mother’s leg.
Her mother’s scent filled her, and soon her mothers’ arms were around her protectively, whispers in her ear about how everything would be fine. However she did not heard them, she heard a loud crack, bone splintering, and a loud crash. Then the repeated clatter of the guns, hurting more her ears, making her scream.
Her mother was crying now, but she couldn’t hear her very well, the clatter still filled her little ears and mind. Her mother started to beg, crying louder, backing away, further into the small kitchen. Ehlisa still couldn’t see anything, pressed hard against her mother’s shoulder, she didn’t want to see, she wanted it to stop, to just be with her mom, and dad, she wanted her dad to be fine, she… She wasn’t next to her mother anymore. Forcing her eyes open, she could just see her mother’s beautiful face, a hand reaching out for her, before her cries were strangled between a group of those men, and she, Ehlisa, was being carried away, and away from her.
She screamed, louder than she’d ever believed herself able to scream, but her mother disappeared between the wall of men, and the sound of cloth ripping was the last thing she could hear before everything went dark.
