The Party

Reviews are nice. Please review.

Gretchen Gilliam’s party was already swarming with people once Reggie and Candy arrived. Loud techno music blasted from large speakers as people bumped and grinded against each other with plastic cups in their hands. Reggie and Candy were especially in high spirit as they weaved there way to the refreshment table. They had found the perfect apartment in Green Briar. Each put in the money they saved for the down payment and now they planned to celebrate. They had stopped at Candy’s to change and promised to meet up with Peter at the party. Reggie and Candy grabbed two cups brimming with frothy beer and found a patch of room to dance in while they waited for Peter.

Candy looked pretty in her blushing pink dress. It complimented her pale skin and honey hair while showing off her long and slender legs. Her curled hair cascaded around her slender shoulders. Glitter sparkled against her blue eyes and in her luxurious hair. She looked like a modern princess. She wore pinks heels with thin straps she had coiled around her ankles and finished with a faux diamond anklet.

Reggie wasn’t as girly as Candy and looked strikingly different. Her black hair was pulled back by a thick, red headband with chunks framing her face. Her legs were covered by tight skinny jeans with black skimmers. A multi-colored polka dotted tunic covered her frame and showed off her shoulders. Soon Peter joined them, looking smart in a black Queen shirt and a pair of pants that showed off his lean legs. He already had a cup of punch on his hand and looked already a bit buzzed. They toasted to the new apartment and chugged down their drinks.

Thoroughly buzzed, Peter grabbed Reggie and pulled her to dance just as Fergelicious began to play, pounding in the speakers. Reggie and Peter sung the song, screaming over the noise to be heard. Reggie was enjoying herself. It had been so long since she felt so light and carefree. She had an apartment and in one month…she was moving out! She would dance and drink the night away just because of that! Reggie was deliciously numb with happiness and alcohol. She hadn’t even thought of Simon…much.

Simon and Samantha arrived an hour later, having a quickie in the back of Simon’s car. Both looked rumpled but no one seemed to notice or care. Simon was grinning contently. His bitterness about Reggie was temporarily lifted from his mind. All he planned on doing was enjoying a drink and the dancing the night away with a few girls. Letting Sam drag him along, Simon was scanning the crowded house for a familiar, female faces. He recognized a few from his class but none of them he had a particular interest in. Oh, well, he thought. I have Sam with me. Taking an overflowing cup, Simon gulped down the beer eagerly. He wanted to get a nice buzz going for the rest of the night.

“You know. You have to drive,” Same warned. Simon grinned at her and tilted the cup.

“I know, babe. I know.”

“You know, you know. That is how it starts, you do realize that.” Simon looked at her as she took a large swallow of her own cup.

“I don’t plan on getting drunk, Sam. With my weight, once cup will not cause me to go over the legal limit for driving.”

“Whatever, Simon. Drinking and driving is drinking and driving no matter how much of a smart-ass you are.”

“Shut up.” Maybe having Sam around wasn’t such a good idea. When you got down to it, she was a bitch. Simon rolled his eyes and walked away before Samantha could say anything else. She was a good lay but that ended any attraction Simon had. He would rather spend his time with Reggie. Even if she did not speak to him. Just her being in the room made him happy and content. His bitterness began to creep back slowly as he painfully thought of her. He fought his way through the crowds, growing more and more frustrated as he moved deeper within the house.

Why did she hate him? He could never have her but why couldn’t she just give him one moment without hostility. If he died tomorrow, all Simon asked for was a moment of happiness with his soul mate. As if fate was not cruel enough, Simon turned a corner and found Reggie dancing closely and provocatively with Peter. His jealousy overtook him. His hand tightened around his cup and beer spilled over his hand. What the fuck was she doing here? Why was she dancing so closely to him? Simon slammed the cup down and stalked toward the couple.

“What the fuck…” Reggie was pulled away from Peter with brute force and a viselike grip around her arm. She twisted around to find Simon, glaring at her and his fingers dug into the soft flesh of her arm. Her drink slopped around and spilled along her pant leg. The numb joy she felt before dissolved into fury at the sight of Simon. And yet…she felt a tinge of excitement as he held her arm. Reggie shook the thought of her head. What nuisance!

“What are you doing here,” he asked in a harsh whisper. His eyes flickered over to Peter, who grinned and waved his hands in defense.

“Hey, Simon. Let us explain,” Peter began, knowing Reggie would be in trouble if she was discovered. Reggie scowled and tried to wiggle her arm out of Simon’s firm grip.

“Don’t bother, Peter. We don’t owe him any explanation.”

“You do. What are you doing here, Reh-gee-nah? You told dad you were at Candy’s house studying,” Simon hissed each syllable of her name. Her eyes widened with surprise and flashed with rage. People nearby had stopped dancing and gawked at the two, locked in a power struggle of wills. Simon was breathing hard as his chest heaved up and down. Rage roared in his ears like the rush of waterfalls. His mind was muddled with jealousy and bitterness, almost too much to bear.

“I obviously lied. Now get your hand off of me, Sigh-mon.” Simon let go of her hand, pulling back. Reggie shot an angry look at the gawking bystanders before grabbing Simon by the shirt and dragging him away from the watching eyes and growing whispers. What was his fucking problem? Did he think he owned her? She would show him for embarrassing her! With eyes still following them, Reggie pulled Simon upstairs without one glance at him. She opened the nearest door, a master bedroom and shoved him in before slamming the door behind her.

By then, she was breathing hard and glistening with sweat from dancing and the overcrowd rooms. Simon stared at her, sheepishly. Oh shit! He crossed the line, Simon realized as he slowly came down from his rage. Her face was distorted in fury almost as fierce as his own. She was breathing hard and sweat was shimmering on her face. They did not speak for a moment, staring at each other in complete silence. The sounds of the party boomed through the walls.

“Tell me Simon,” Reggie finally said once her breathing had stared to turn to normal. He looked at her through his bangs. “Explain to me what you fucking problem is?’

“I…” He was at a loss for words. He couldn’t tell her. She would think him a pervert. Who would be in love with his own sister? And he doubted she believe they were soul mates. It had been hard for him to accept it when he discovered it and then it had been torture when he had.

“Do you enjoy making my life miserable? Huh? Do you? Is it some sort of sick pleasure for you?”

“No…I…”

“Then what? What is your fucking problem?”

“I have no problem with you…” Simon said, delicately. Reggie crossed her arms and gave him a angry look to continue. Simon sighed and sat on the bed. He was trapped. What possible excuse could he come up with? Then an idea sparked in his mind.

“If we are on this topic of accusations, Reggie. Why do you hate me? Why do enjoy making my life miserable?”

“Do not change the subject! You just embarrassed me in front of everyone with your jealous boyfriend act.”

“Hey, you lied to dad.”

“So fucking what? I have been lying to Charles, Molly and you for years. What makes this any different?”

“Why do you do it? Why do you hate us so much?”

“Don’t do back to that. It is none of your fucking business.”

“Tell me. I want to know. I…I will tell you what ‘my problem’ is if you tell me what your is.”

“No thanks. I am not that interested. “Reggie turned to leave. No. She wasn’t going to fucking close him out. Simon leapt forward, grabbing her arm and pulling her back toward him. Reggie tilted her head back against his chest and looked up at him, scowling.

“Let go of me, Simon.” Reggie felt Simon chest rise and fall harshly. His breath tickled the hair by her ear and had the slight smell of alcohol. She could smell his cologne that clung to him. Something felt so right about this, she thought but it was short-lived and vanished as quickly as it had come.

“You drag me up here and scream at me about what my fucking problem. And when I am willing to tell you, you throw it in my face and say you are not interested. Well you know fucking what my problem is. I love you! I fucking love you and not only are you my sister but you hate me for no fucking reason!” He let her go roughly and rushed out of the room. Reggie stood in complete shock, staring at the open door as shouts rose from the party. What the hell happened? He loved her? Simon was in love with her. It did not seem to click in her mind properly. But he was her brother. How could he love her? It was not right! It was down right disgusting! Was he out of his mind? Was he fucking drunk?

Reggie turned to the party in a daze. She could not find Simon anywhere. He could have been there or he could have gone home, she would never know in the sea of faces. He loved her? She should be more disgusted but strangely she wasn’t. It did not seem to bother her as much as it should have. Actually, something seem to have been lifted. Tension she felt deep down that she had ignored had been released. It was like she had been waiting for him to reveal his feelings, anxiously and unconsciously and now that he had…she felt content. Why the hell did she feel like this? She shouldn't feel this way. It was like she was in love with him as well. She did not love Simon. She hated him and not to mention he was her goddamn brother. Why was this not bothering her? Reggie grabbed a cup of punch and chugged it down. She need to get drunk and quick…
