Chapter three: Everything’s fine now--well almost everything…
“Ok Miss Shields we are ready for you.” the nurse dressed all in white said while Alexis and Daniel were waiting for the doctor.
“Okay we’d better go.” Daniel said helping his pregnant friend up.
After the exam the doctor came in and said. “Okay Miss Shields, everything’s in working order. Your baby is fine. The only risk is you’re so young. So take it easy and eat healthy…make old dad here do everything!” the doctor said laughing.
“Yeah.” Daniel said. “We better go. Thanks doctor.” and they were dismissed.
“See? I told you I was fine!” Alexis said.
“I just wanted to make sure,” he said getting into the car where his mom was waiting.
“Hey! How’d it go?” she said once they were in.
“Good. Nothings wrong.” Daniel replied. “I just want to get out of here.”
Months past and the baby was more ready now than ever.
An unusually hot afternoon in April when Daniel and Melissa were in AP English, Alexis went into labor. A guidance counselor ran into their classroom and screamed “ALEXIS IS IN LABOR WE NEED YOU IN THE HOSPITAL! NOW!”
“Oh my God!” Daniel said. “Melissa you need to come with me! Get Tom too!” and Daniel and Melissa ran out of the room and Tom followed out of another classroom after hearing what was going on.

After waiting for hours and hours, the baby was finally born. All of the kids fell asleep on each other while Daniel’s parents watched and took pictures of them and laughing. At 1:25 in the morning Daniel’s parents woke them up and told them that the baby was born.
“It’s a girl.” his mom said smiling.
Daniel went in to see his baby daughter.
“Shes beautiful,” he whispered coming inside the room and looking at Alexis holding his baby.
“You know how we thought of the name, Jessica?” Alexis said.
“Yeah.” Daniel replied picking up his tiny baby.
“Well I was thinking…she looks more of an Ashley to me.” Alexis said.
“Yeah she does.” Daniel said distracted by his daughter whom he fell in love with the moment he laid eyes on her. His parents walked into the room.
“Hey.” they whispered and immediately seeing their new granddaughter.
“Aww…” his mom exclaimed. “Have you thought of a name?” she asked.
“Yeah. Ashley.” Daniel said giving the baby back to Alexis.
Melissa walked into the room and smiled. “Oh my gosh guys. She’s so cute!” she said when Alexis gave her to hold.
“Her name is Ashley. And we want you and Tom to be godparents. Is that okay?” Alexis said beaming.
“What about me?” Tom said walking into the room.
“They just made us godparents.” Melissa explained holding baby Ashley.
“Oh awesome.” Tom said taking Ashley from Melissa.
“Well, Daniel, Alexis, shes beautiful but we need to get home because we still have to work tomorrow.” Daniel’s mom said giving her son a peck on the cheek and her granddaughter a soft peck on the forehead and leaving with her husband following.
“Well. Great. Now I guess we’re parents.” Daniel said half disbelief half joy because of his new daughter.
“Yep.” Alexis said.
“Well if all is good and done I’m going to go home. I need to sleep.” Melissa said laughing
“Yeah, I need to too,” Tom, said.
“Okay you guys. I’ll just see you tomorrow.” Daniel said.
And with that the nurses took Ashley into the nursery and Daniel left Alexis for the night.
