||Broken Inside||3

Out on your own

cold and alone again

can this be what you really wanted, baby?

There she stood once more, but older this time. Her long blue hair blew gently as the wind brushed through it. She was hanging sheets on a wire when a thundering voice erupted from the house.

"EMIKO!!! Where's my lunch!!?" Her father cried angrily. She stayed silent and gracefully walked inside, whipping her hands on her apron. She walked to the kitchen and placed as tea kettle and cup on a tray along with a sandwich and a pickle. She gently picked it up and hurriedly walked to the staircase and began to climb the stairs when her father's voice rang out in the emptiness of the house once more.

"EMIKO!!!" His voice thundered.

"Coming father" She said softly, almost in a whisper. She gently pushed open the door to find her father still in bed. A smile crossed her lips as she walked into the room.

"Good afternoon father, sorry I kept you waiting" She said gently before placing the tray in his lap.

"Its fine, now leave me." Her father replied sternly. She smiled once more and nodded before starting out of the room, letting her smile slowly fade off. It was fake, the smiles she gave, none of them were real, they were only there as show, and to play with her mind. She had become a liar in her older years, but not just any liar, she lied to herself. She wasn’t a happy child anymore, she was a disturbed and utterly miserable woman, and always will be.

I can't change who I am

not this time, I wont lie to keep you near me

and in this short life, there's no time to waste on giving up

my love wasn't enough...

She slowly began to walk down the stairs but stopped half way. There her brother stood, impassively looking up to her. She stared down to him for only a moment.

"Don’t lie to yourself so much, Onee-chan. I don’t want to see you unhappy anymore." He spoke gently. His eyes had saddened as he spoke. He loved his sister very much, though he could never truly see her, for he has been blind since birth, he imagined what a beautiful young girl she must be, and smiled every time he did. It was their own cinder girl story, and soon the wicked 'step mother' would die of what she calls 'nothing more than a chest cold', and they'll both be free, and maybe, Emiko will become happy once more, as she was when mother was alive, before her illness when the fighting began. Emiko closed her eyes then slowly began to finish her way down the stairs and stopped right in front of Erick and looked up to him.

"If I stop lying to myself...then I'll never be happy." She spoke softly before heading back out to the backyard to finish hanging the sheets when she stopped and slowly turned to see Erick still standing in the same place, staring at her sadly.

"I love you, Onee-chan." Erick muttered softly before turning and heading back to his room.

Now that you're gone

I feel like myself again

grieving the things I can't repair and willing ...
