Kanaye

Once inside the garden, Nauri grabbed more of the Sivarian plant. She then scanned her garden for a different plant, one by the name of Reen. This plant had a strong numbing effect and would dull even the worst of pains.

She quickly spotted it and plucked a few leaves. She turned her attention to another plant. This one was a vibrant green with several flowers budding from it. They were nothing special, just small yellow flowers placed close to the stem. She grabbed three of the flowers and hurriedly started back towards the castle.

A servant was waiting when she opened the castle door.

“Is everything alright m’lady?” she asked, taking note of the princesses panicked form.

“I need you to bring a bowl of warm water and a fresh cloth to the dungeon, along with a glass of water” she told the servant, quickly walking past her.

“Yes m’lady” Nauri heard the servant speak.

Nauri returned to the dungeon, grabbing the woven bag as she went to the vampire’s side. She heard the vampire snarl but he remained unmoving. She pulled out another porcelain bowl and placed the Sivarian and the Reen leaves in the middle. She broke them up some, then took out a stone and crushed them into a paste. One she was finished she set the bowl beside her and then looked back towards the vampire.

Nauri carefully turned the vampire onto his back and pulled him into her lap, attempting to make him more comfortable and easier to access his wounds. She looked up when the door creaked open and the servant walked inside, holding the items Nauri had asked for carefully.

“Bring them here” Nauri spoke to her

The girl did as she was asked and set everything down. Once she did so, she left without saying a single word, though Nauri could see a slight look of pity in her eyes.

Nauri dropped the flowers into the glass of water and slid the bowl closer to her. She dipped the clean rag into the water and went about cleansing the vampire’s wounds. She received a growl or a hiss every so often but ignored them.

Once she cleaned as much blood away as she could she applied the salve to his wounds, then wrapped the long cloth around the vampire’s torso.

She picked up the glass and push the vampire into an upright position.

“Drink this” she spoke to him as she pressed the glass to his lips. He leaned into her as he drank the substance down.

Nauri set the empty glass on the floor and the vampire laid back down. She brushed his long silver bangs from his face and wiped a bit of blood from his pale skin. He seemed to unconscious, or just too tired to say anything.

How can Father be so cruel?’ She questioned herself.

Nauri leaned against the cold stone wall, the vampire still resting on her.

“Is this the only time your going to let me near you? When your hurt?” she asked looking to the vampire. His eyes then partially opened. The vampire then seemed to realize he was lying in the girls lap. He pushed himself up and looked towards her, his hands placed on the cold ground.

“I don’t understand. I thought vampires were supposed to heal almost instantly” she spoke returning his gaze.

“Stupid girl, I am no vampire” he spoke with an irritated look.

“What?” Nauri asked, surprised.

“I am a demon, though vampires do exist. Please stop getting me mixed up with them. The only thing my race has in common with those beasts in appearance. Demons did not have to sell their soul to the devil to acquire immortality and power, so our souls are not damned” he explained.

Nauri remained silent, trying to comprehend what he just told her.

“Now that I have shared something with you, I want you to answer a question for me. Why have you gone against your own kind to heal my wounds?” he questioned, still seeming slightly irritated.

“I have not gone against anyone” she defended.

“Indeed you have. What would your father do if he found you healed the wounds he worked so hard to inflict?” the vampire asked, raising an eyebrow.

Nauri’s eyes immediately fell to the floor, her bangs falling into her eyes. Word could not express how ashamed she felt.

“I’m sorry. What he has done to you is not right” she whispered.

The demon reached to her, bringing her chin up. With the other hand he brushed her hair from her face.

“I have yet to understand you. You have absolutely no malice in your eyes” he spoke as his eyes burned into her.

“Thank you, I am truly in your debt” he added softly laid back on the floor.

Nauri leaned over him.

“Could you please tell me your name?” she asked.

“Kanaye” he answered her.

She was surprised to have received an answer, but happy none the less.

Nauri remained as his side for about an hour longer before finally standing up. Kanaye was breathing easier now and he appeared to be asleep. She made her way to the door and left, careful not to wake the sleeping demon.

“And there you are again, covered in that vampire’s blood” a voice spoke.

“Acadi,” she started, her eyes filled with sorrow “The rumors are not true. He is not at all an evil creature. Father even was wrong about his being a vampire”

“So these are the lies he has been feeding you?” he father’s voice spoke calmly as he walked closer to his daughter.

“How would you know? Unless you can speak to him through your blade” she spat at him.

Her father then raised his hand, smacker her hard across the face. Nauri reached up, touching her cheek with wide eyes. Never in her life had her father hit her.

“Do not talk to me like that. Have you no respect for your father?!” Sheva’s voice boomed.

Nauri daringly raised her head.

“Actually, I don’t” she spoke bitterly.

Sheva raised his hand to strike her again, his eyes burning with fury.

“Father!” Acadi shouted as he ran to his sister.

“Get her out of my sight” Sheva ordered.

Acadi grabbed Nauri’s shoulder’s, directing her from their father. She looked back when she heard the dungeon door open and her father step inside.

Nauri jerked away from Acadi and rushing into the room after her father. “Nauri!” she heard Acadi shout after her.

“Stop it!” she called out as she grabbed her fathers arm. Sheva threw Nauri roughly from him.

Kanaye then stood upright, glaring daggers at the Lord.

Sheva came at the demon, but he quickly jumped past the human king and spiraled around. In the process, the chains that binded the demon entangled themselves around Sheva’s neck. The silver haired man pulled his wrist back and they tightened around the man. The demon then rushed to Sheva, careful not to leave any slack.

Nauri quickly rushed to the two. Kanaye reached to her, gently wiping the blood from her lip.

“Don’t you wish to make him feel pain, like he did you?” Kanaye spoke.

Nauri quickly shook her head ‘no’.

“Please just let him go” she pleaded.

The demon looked towards her without speaking.

As they gazed at each other, many others’s rushed inside. They all began coming at the demon. Kanaye dropped the chain, fending off attacks by the other men. Lord Sheva removed the chain from his neck and quickly recovered himself. Furious, he advanced on the out numbered demon.

“I should just slay you now!” he roared.

“Stop!” the princess shouted. Her demand caused everyone to stop, except her father. She ran at him with pleading eyes.

“This is not right! You cannot do this to another person!” she shouted in a panicked tone as she grabbed his arm. Sheva shook free of her grasp and pushed her into one of the men.

“Get her out of here. Lock her up in a room somewhere” Sheva ordered, keeping his eye on the demon.

The man scooped her up and she let out a sharp scream. She struggled as much as she could in a desperate attempt to get away. Her thrashing about only resulted in another man coming to help control the hysterical princess.

They started down the long hallway, Nauri’s screams filling the entire castle.

“What is going on?” Acadi demanded as he ran towards his sister. “Put her down!”

“I’m sorry, Lord Sheva ordered that we lock her up” They spoke as they walked past Acadi.

“Please don’t let Father hurt Kanaye!” she shouted to her brother a she continued to thrash about.
