Chapter 3

Blaine's head shot away for a split second. ~The Prince? What's he doing here? And now of all times....?~ He quickly turned back to Novus. "I might be a little late in getting back. If I am, don't worry, little one. Everything is fine. I'll still come home and bring you something to eat." He started to turn away then stopped. He turned his head towards Novus and blew him a kiss, a reassuring smile on his face.

"Alright," Novus said, nodding. Why had Blaine looked a little worried all of the sudden? Novus caught the kiss in his hand, then put it into the pocket of the robe to save for later. He smiled at Blaine. "Now go."

Blaine half whispered, still smiling "Alright... Good-bye for now." Slowly he turned away. He kept thinking about how horrible this feeling was, leaving Novus behind in this huge mansion all by himself. He looked around the foyer before leaving. ~What's going on in your head Blaine? You'd better figure it out soon... The Prince will know and you'll be shamed...~

Outside, it was a slightly chilly, clear night of Springtime. Some people still milled about, for the night was still pretty young, not even 10:30 yet.
A petite girl was waiting just outside the gate to Blaine's mansion, not tresspassing but not really respecting Blaine's territory either. The firey little redhead did not come into town often, but when she did, she always made a point to drop by. ~Blaine,~ she called, ~Want to hunt with me tonight? Oh! And we should stop by the Palace later. My father told me that the Prince would like a visit from you,~ the little vampire girl informed, waiting for Blaine to come out and meet her.

Blaine sighed deeply. He was not in the mood for her tonight. He turned a bend in the drive and was face to face with her. "Elissa.... I have other...." He easily jumped the gate and lands next to her. "pressing matters. You know how I feed. Young, limber, and alone." He thought for a minute. "... And Type AB positive if I can get it." He started to walk away, not yet having dismissed her from his presence just yet.

Elissa hesitated, then trotted after Blaine. "Are you okay? You seem different...or at lest, in a weird mood..." she said, walking beside him but slightly behind, out of respect to an elder. "Well anyway, after your "pressing matters," you must visit Him. He wants you to visit," he told Blaine. Even though she was quite young, she did have some sort of authority. Her father, Laepheus, was the Prince's right-hand man.

Blaine stopped and turned to her suddenly and hissed lowly at her. Once he finished he said, "I'm well aware of these things. And I am fine. Got it? Fine." He starts to turn away. "I just need to feed... But the Prince comes first." He said it normally like it was really an obvious thing. To him it was sarcasm. He personally hated the Prince. He kept it supressed however, so as not to undergo persecution. He'd known it to happen often, and even witnessed several persecutions. He could tell that many of the vampires that had under-gone persecution were just like him. Down to the core. He couldn't let it happen to him. He knew the next thought was coming and tried his hardest to keep it to himself. ~What would happen to Novus if I was ever caught...?~

Elissa stopped following Blaine, respecting his threat. But she still smiled. She always smiled. "Well alright. I'll see you sometime," she said, waving. Then she ran off, to go attend to her own business.
In town, the spring festivals were coming to the end. This was the last night of festivities, and people were enjoying themselves to the fullest, hitting all the kiosks, shows, and taverns.

Blaine growled at the general group of them. Not very loud, much more to himself. He had to go and see the Prince. But by the time he got back, there might be noone left. He scouted the area and picked out several young girls that appeared to be near Novus's age. He growled shortly and sped off stealthily, sticking to the shadows again. He came up behind a young brightly haired blonde and was about 50 ft away. ~Her hair might as well be a fuckin' target...~ Blaine readjusted himself and walked out from his spot, taking care to use his vampire abilities to where he wasn't noticed. He walked up behind her and leaned in next to her ear. In a deep seductive voice, using more of his vampire charm, he said, "Tis a fine night, lass. Are you enjoying yourself?"

"Oh yes, sir..." the girl said, her voice tinkling like bells. She sounded a bit dreamy...the charm took hold of her as soon as Blaine spoke. She turned towards him smiling, her green eyes catching some of the streetlamps' light. "How about you?" she inquired, her young, red lips shaped like a heart. Her cheeks were rosy, the blood of life pumping strongly within her.

His breath hitched with amount of life she had in her. He stared her in the eyes to bend her under his will. "I'm enjoying it very much. Very, very much in fact" He bent his total concentration on her, using his charms, magic and age on her in everyway he can. The blood lust was strong within him, but he reined it back. His plan was to take her with him to model how well he could put a human under his control and bring her back with him to the mansion for both Novus and he to feed from.

She just smiled at him, her eyes glazed with a dreamy look as she lost herself in Blaine's charm. Then she leaned forward a little gazing up at Blaine as if she wanted to kiss him.

Blaine growled shortly again, unexpectedly. He quickly took out a silver chained necklace with a deep blue stone as a pendant. The pendant had his personal mark on it. He used the necklace as a means of keeping a mortal under his total control. He quickly slung it around her neck and grabbed her hand. Believing the Prince to be waiting for him, he started to lead her quickly through the festival to the edge of town.

Meanwhile, Novus had found a bedroom in Blaine's house that hadn't been used in a long time. He waited patiently there for Blaine's return, occupying himself with his own thoughts. He wanted a bath...but would wait until after he'd eaten.

Vampires from all around could smell the lush scent of blood Novus contained in his body. Many knew that it came from Blaine's home and dared not venture there. One, however, was too weak, too stupid, or possibly both. Garet circled around the premisis hunting out Novus. He was an older vampire, not as old as Blaine, but still old enough to gain senority. He peered in through several windows and found nothing. He leaped silently up to the balcony outside of Novus's current room and peered in hungrily. His lips parted in a viscious smile to find Novus sitting there. He waited, watching his prey, for the opportune moment to strike.

Novus had brought his bag up from downstairs, and pulled out some paper and a pencil. He sat crosslegged on the bed in the unused room, drawing. He kept the robe pulled up around his shoulders, for it was slightly chilly in the house. Then he stopped and blinked....feeling uneasy. He glanced around the room, sensing something, but not sure what it was or where it was.

Garet crouched down below the window sill and waited a few seconds. ~Can't let him see me... It'd ruin everything. Plus, Blaine wouldn't kill me until he'd had his fun.... I can't even do any charm on the kid... Fuckin' inccubi....~ Garet had long since found out just how good incubus/succubus blood was. He also had figured out why it was so good: The challenge of getting it. He waited a few seconds and sniffed the air for any change in emotion or coming visitors.

After a few minutes, Novus shook his head, dismissing the idea that he had felt something was wrong. But he still felt slghtly uneasy...so he set his drawing things down on the bed and got up. He made his way to the bathroom in the hallway, shut the door, and locked it. Feeling better, he fumbled in the dark for a couple of minutes before he managed to light a couple of candles, then he started the water in the tub.

Siezing the opportunity, Garet opened the window and climbed in. He was one of the few vampires that could get into Blaine's home so easily. He was considered an old friend of Blaine's. Lately however, Garet had grown to be jelaous of him. ~And what a better payback than to leave his precious dying on the floor when he gets back?~ After shutting the window, Garet sniffed out Novus. Going into "stealth mode," he tiptoed to the bathroom and pressed his ear against the wall, knowing all too well the dangers of pressing it against the door.

Novus did not sense any more danger. After studying himself in the mirror and deciding he might need a haircut soon, he slipped out of the robe he had borrowed from Blaine and hung it on a towel hook. Then he sat on the edge of the tub, dipping his feet into the hot water.

Garet smiled maliciously. Using the powers that came with age, he slowly unlocked the door and waited, seeing if the incubus noticed anything. Faintly he heard a message from Blaine to Novus. ~Little one, I feel a little ... ... Do me a favor and check the mansion for me. If you find anything unusual, let me know.~ Garet hissed under his breath and quickly, yet silently, ran downstairs to Blaine's coffin and hid himself in it. He looked around insde of it, then realized something: Blaine would be able to smell him. ".... fuck...."

Novus had turned his head towards the door just as Garet had fled. He blinked, thinking he might've seen something. Novus quickly dried his feet and donned the robe again. He looked around the mansion as he was told, and didn't find anything. He opened the door to the basement stairs and peered down into the darkness. "..." Novus hesitated, for he'd been told not to go where Blaine sleeps. Plus, it was dark, and Novus still had a bit of a fear of complete darkness. Chilly air wafted up from the basement, and Novus shut the door then wrapped the robe more tightly about himself.
Nothing....but Blaine had sounded like he felt like something was in the mansion. This made Novus feel very uneasy...he didn't feel safe anymore, and wanted Blaine to return as quickly as he could.

Blaine, being connected to Novus un a strange way, felt his uneasiness. ~I'll be there as soon as I can little one. I still need to meet with ... someone. I'll make it as quick as I can. Let me know, though, if you do find anything.~ Blaine sighed and remained connected with Novus in case something happened while he was away. He hated having to babysit someone capable of looking after themselves, but he just wasn't willing to risk anything happening to Novus. Garet waited for a few minutes to make sure his way out would be a safe one. He wouldn't leave until Blaine came back or until he had what he came for. But he figured to do it the safe way, so Novus wouldn't suspect anything.

Novus, now not feeling safe anywhere in the mansion, stood where he was near the basement door for a while, his thoughts whirling. This was getting stressful...he just wanted to relax and wait for Blaine's return, but where could he do that??
After a while Novus returned upstairs to the bathroom he had planned to take a bath in. Might as well. He locked the door behind him again, which made him feel a little bit better. He slipped out of the robe and stepped into the bathwater, and remained sitting up and alert in case anything should happen.

Garet cautiously slipped out of Blaine's coffin and followed Novus's scent back upstairs. Again, he began to use his magic on the lock to silently unlock it. ~So close now.... Just a few more seconds... Don't fuck up this time....~ Garet stayed as steady and silent as he possible could, but the prospect of an exquisite meal was overwhelming. He held on to the bloodlust as best he could.

After a while Novus began washing his hair, not paying much attention to the door anymore. The water was on its way to geting cold, and he wanted to finish his bath before that happened. Novus despised being cold.

Garet smiled again and eased the door open a hair to peer in through the tiny crack. He was nearly drooling at the prospect of a delicious meal. So far, despite the tiny hitch he'd had with Blaine checking in on Novus, he was sure it'd be an easy kill. Garet, being the lean muscled vampire he was, would easily be able to take Novus and have his sick way with him. He had completely forgotten about what Blaine would do to him should he be caught. At this point in time, it didn't matter to him.

Novus hadn't noticed Garet opened the door because Garet had put himself into the stealth mode. He poured water over his head to get the soap out a few times, then ran his fingers through his silver-blonde hair.

Siezing the opportunity, Garet flung the door open and launched himself at Novus, fangs bared and snarling. He grabbed Novus by his shoulders and yanked him out of the tub. Immediately he deeply sank his teeth into Novus's pulse, draining the life force out of him at a rapid pace. The exotic taste and the rush of blood down his throat left him dizzy for a moment. Not wasting any time, however, after sinking his teeth into Novus he bagn to drag him out of the bathroom to the main entrance.

Novus didn't even get enough time to scream. He was stunned, an effect a quick bite had on weak victims. He struggled, hitting and clawing at Garet, but the movements were more lethargic than anything else. As he was dragged down the chilly hallway soaking wet and getting weaker by the second, his eyes half closed as he began to drift into unconciousness. "Hnn....Blaine..." Novus said, his voice faint. Those inky black tears that were more sweet than salty stained his eyes and cheeks.

Garet growled and let go. Blaine, sensing Novus's condition literally screamed both mentally and physically ~Novus!~ Garet, having heard this loud and clear, quickly ran, leaving Novus in a small pool of his own blood and tears. "Dammit." He said to himself. "... He knows it's me... I gotta get the fuck out of here." Garet ran, fully aware that his life depended on it. He had finally realized that he had managed to leave his scent all over Blaine's mansion. The second Blaine returned, he would know who had done it.

Novus blinked as he lay stark naked in his own blood. He looked around without moving his head, but couldn't get his eyes to focus correctly on anything.
Safety....Novus concluded he was safe nowhere.
Novus twitched. Then he began to shudder, his oxygen-deprived muscles causing him to start to go into convulsions as the wound in his neck continued to spill his life all over the floor.
Meanwhile:
~...Garet,~ A dark, commanding voice called. ~Come to me,~ The Prince called, wishing to see him. ~Come Garet~

Blaine was at a total loss of what to do. He was just outside where the Prince was currently waiting for him, but Novus was in a state of dire need. Blaine had long since sent the girl off. He didn't need her right now. What he needed was to take care of Novus and make sure he was fine. He pulled at his hair and groaned in frustration. He felt tears of anger and sadness burn beneath his closed eyelids. ~ Prince,~ He called. ~What am I going to do? Should I come to you now, or am I alright to return to you later?~
Garet, just outside of Blaine's gate suddenly panicked. He knew Blaine had gone to see the Prince, and he assumed it was almost certain the Prince knew of Garet's deed. Garet had never been in much favor with any of the vampires. He was known for being too hasty during hunts. And when stalking more favorable prey, he tended to take the kill for himself, draining the victim so much that he barely left but a few drops for the rest of the group. Not knowing what else to do, he called to the Prince: ~Now, my lord?~

~Blaine, you may return later. Bring the boy with you as soon as he is well enough to come,~ the Prince told Blaine, his dark voice sounding slightly agitated.
~Yes, Garet. Now.~ The Prince sounded annoyed...maybe even angry.
Blaine didn't even reply. He just dashed off towards his mansion. Garet, as well, didn't reply. He too ran off in the direction of the Prince. They both turned a corner and ran into each other at the same time. Blaine quickly sidestepped him and growled at him. He smelt a scent of blood. He quickly discerned it as Novus's blood. Blaine growled louder and snapped his teeth at Garet. "For now, I leave you to the Prince. If he doesn't kill you, you'd damn well better run. You couldn't hide from me when you took my soul, you won't hide from me now." Blaine cut out of the interlude at that and ran off, deciding Novus's health was more important than Garet's torture and demise.
Garet, in the meantime, had just about pissed himself. Blaine knew. He hoped to whatever gods there might be left to save him and let the Prince kill him quickly and cleanly. He knew Blaine would definitely torture him for a long time before deciding to kill him. Blaine held grudges. Deep ones. Even deeper ones against Garet. Still completely worried, Garet continued to the Prince.

Guards dressed completely in black let Garet enter the mansion house the Prince stayed in when he visited this city. They escorted Garet to a lavish room below ground and near the back of the house. This room was so richly decorated it might seem smothering at times. The colors were red, gold, and black...with many very conmfortable couches and chairs, and one fireplace. Heavy velvet curtains hung everywhere, making the original walls almost invisible.
The Prince was reclined on his side on one of these couches near the fire. He had a slender, tall frame...about 6'5". His long, straight golden hair framed his beautiful face, white skin almost luminescent with ethereal beauty. His clothes were long and robe-like, and fur-lined in some places. He looked like some royal straight from Northern Europe's past. His eyes were completely blood-red....and their intense, knowing stare drilled right into Garet's eyes as Garet entered the room.
"Good evening, Garet," the Prince greeted, his speaking voice different from his mental one. It was almost musical, the notes almost shining as he spoke them.
The room was stuffy not just from the fire and all the heavy curtains and furniture, but from the oppressing aura that the Prince emitted. He was the ruler of the European clan of vampires.....however, he was not exactly a vampire himself. Everyone knew he was actually a Diabolizer...an enemy to vampires, demons, and humans alike. No one would stand up to him, not even foreign rulers. For power comes with age...and this particular Prince was over two and a half millenia old.
Novus coughed and groaned, his convulsions getting worse. He was only about 5'4" and did not weigh much. Garet had taken a lot from him, and the rest was spilling onto the floor. He was facing a slow, painful death.
~Blaine....Bl-~ Novus called without even thinking. he had never really used his mental voice before, and it was weak and broken, untrained.

Garet slowly made his way to the Prince, head bowed low in both shame and inferiority. He was about 20 feet away when he fell into a perfect kneeling bow. "You wanted to see me, my lord?" he said trying his hardest not to stutter and tie his words together. He was truly afraid of this man. However, he would accept his death from the Prince rather than Blaine any day.
Blaine burst into his mansion just after Novus's mental calling cut out. He could clearly see Novus laying in the center of the entrance hall. "Novus..." He ran to Novus's side, ripping the right sleeve off of his jacket and pressing it tightly to Novus's throat. The scent of Novus's blood was driving him to the point of insanity, but, somewhere in the deep recesses of his heart and mind, he knew that Novus had to live. Novus was currently his life. Blaine gently lifted Novus's upper half off the ground and held him close. "Don't die on me little one... I can't lose you now..." he whispered softly.

"...Yes..." The Prince said, red eyes unblinking. His lips were almost the same white as his skin, except for a very pale shade of pink that hinted he had fed recently. The Prince smiled slowly. "You think I would let you off easier than Blaine would...? But that is not the point. I have summoned you here now because you have broken a couple of laws now, haven't you?" the Prince said, tilting his head ever so slightly. "One: you willingly and knowingly tresspassed into another's resting place without permission. Two: You have assaulted a juvenile incubus, an endangered species. These are true, are they not?" the Prince asked, leaning forward a little. He gestured for the gaurds to leave. Now it was just Garet and the Prince in this smothering, oppressive room.
Novus coughed and gasped, his breathing getting shallow. He tried focusing on Blaine, but then his eyes, who's whites had turned completely black(common incubus trait), rolled back as he lost conciousness.

Garet shifted uncomfortably under the Prince's gaze. He kept his eyes cast downwards, not trusting him to look into the Prince's eyes. "... Yes, my lord. It is true." He dared not ask what would become of him. He doubted he wanted to know.
Tears rolled down Blaine's cheeks. He was at a complete loss of what to do. He frantically looked around for something, anything, that would save the young incubus from death. He quickly used his powers to summon packets of blood. These were specially made, given to him by a very respected incubus. Not drained of course, just a gift. He then reached out and touched the human girl's mind with his own. He attempted something he'd never done before and tried to implant his charms in her mind as he began to gently force feed Novus the incubus blood.

The Prince's smile broadened. "You will be staying here with me for a little while, until I feel like handing you over for Blaine to deal with. Come here," the Prince told Garet, moving to sit up from his reclined position. The movement was fluid, almost feral.
Novus, still unconcious, pushed the blood pack away after it was about half empty. He convulsed violently once, then something almost unheard of happened. He attacked Blaine. His mouth clamped down hard enough on Blaine's neck to puncture the skin with his dull teeth. The hidden instincts knew the power in Blaine's blood, power enough to potentially save the incubus, even if it was risky. Novus's body was quite drained...he would be Turned, if it happened to work. Usually there were complications with attempting to turn incubi/succubi.
