Chapter Three
“Hey, where the fuck have you been?” Adrian grinned at the greeting he received upon his entrance into his apartment. He lived two subway stops away from Anya and Kendra, with his brother Lucas and their friend Carter.
“At Anya and Kendra’s. Did you miss me you lazy fuck?” Adrian ruffled Carter’s long blonde shag as he walked past the couch and into the kitchen.
“Actually, yes, I did. We’ve got to get our shit together. Three weeks from now we have a show at Rumors.”
“Rumors, how the fuck did you get that?” Adrian asked with excitement. “Are you serious?”
“I slept with a girl who knows a guy.” Carter said with a satisfied smirk on his face and Adrian knew he wasn’t kidding.
“You’re a real charmer Carter. I guess we need to get serious about practicing.”
“Yeah, especially because a producer from Friction Records is going to be there.”
Adrian set his soda down on the kitchen table and calmly walked over to the couch and put Carter in a head-lock. “Are you shitting me? If you’re shitting me, I’m going to kick your ass.”
“I’m not kidding.” Carter struggled against Adrian’s grasp, hitting his friend repeatedly.
“That’s so amazing! Fuck, does everyone know?” Adrian released Carter and sat down on the couch with him.
“Yeah because they actually check in from time to time. God, would it kill you check your messages from time to time?” Carter asked, rubbing his neck.
“Aww, I’m sorry Carter. Didn’t know you cared so much.” Adrian laughed.
“Well, I do.” Carter turned abruptly and hit Adrian. “That’s for attacking me. That hurt.”
“God, you’re such a fucking baby.” Adrian laughed and clutched his stinging arm. “I’m gonna go call Anya and tell her the good news.”
“Oh my God. And you call me a baby? You just came from her place.” Carter shook his head disapprovingly. “You’re so fucking whipped.”
“Fuck you Carter.” Adrian flipped him off. “You’re just jealous.”
“Of what? You’re not getting any ass from her.” Adrian slammed his door. “Are you? You’re not getting any ass are you? Adrian? Adrian? Are you getting ass?”

“Adrian, that’s amazing. I’m so happy for you guys. We’ll have to have a party afterwards to celebrate.” Anya laid down in her bed as she talked on the phone with Adrian. She’d just seen him less than a half an hour ago but Anya didn’t mind, she never got tired of talking to him.
“I know this could be it. “Adrian strummed his guitar as they talked. “We’ve been waiting for so long.”
“You deserve it too.” Anya said confidently. “I can’t help but feel good about this.”
“You feel good about everything we do.” Adrian laughed. “You’re our number one groupie.”
“Um, excuse me. I am not a groupie. Do you see me throwing my panties on the stage?” Anya snorted. “I don’t think so.”
“I would like to see that.”
“You’re a pig.” Anya laughed. “All men are pigs.”
“Don’t tell me you’re on that again.” Adrian rolled his eyes. “All men are not pigs.”
“It’s much easier if I think of it that way.” Anya said seriously. “Saves me a lot of trouble.”
“No.” Adrian insisted. “That’s just your way of avoiding the situation. I’ll be the first person to say what a jerk Bryan is but that in no way makes all men pigs.”
“Fine, you’re not a pig and Lucas isn’t a pig, so I guess your mother has a lot to be proud of. Carter… he’s only kind of a pig. Oh, and Tom isn’t a pig, his darling fiancé has made sure of that. And, Rene, this guy from work, he’s not a pig but he doesn’t like women anyway. Oh, and my brother is decent.”
“Anya, are you being difficult on purpose?” Adrian used one of her common phrases.
“No, I’m just making a point. There are a few exceptions but in general men are pigs.” Anya said seriously. “The odds of me finding one of the exceptions is very slim.”
“As much as I’d love to have this exasperating conversation with you, I’ve got rehearsal.” Adrian looked at his watch, he had plenty of time but…
“Fine, fine.” Anya relented. “Tell the boys I said hi, and be sure to give Carter a big kiss.”
“Will do.” Adrian laughed. “But you’ll have to forgive me if I get a little carried away. He just has the dreamiest blue eyes.”
“I know! And that blonde hair, got to love that All American Boy thing. Hey, Carter’s single, do you think he’d be interested in going out with me?”
“Anya, once again you’ve managed to take a friendly joke too far. I have to hang up now before I vomit.” Adrian made a gagging sound into the phone.
“You’re such a baby. Good-night Dre.”
“Night Anya.”
