The Beginning of Forever

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Zanhmere watched his Trinity all day knowing she would not wake until the night. His food was brought to him by the faithful lady servant Missiva. She saw the king of demons in a state of restlessness which he had never been in before when she did. Zanhmere paced along the black lined red carpeting which circled his room He didn't touch the breakfast that Missiva brought in to him. She saw his lunch end up with much the same result.

Her master was thinking and she knew it for sure when she saw the still full lunch serving. Zanhmere didn't hide this from any one. He was not worried nor did he care what his lesser subjects thought about him. That was one of the gifts of being born a demon. You were born without understanding of the trivial notion that was emotions.

He watched her breathing now. Zanhmere sat down on the bed (or bed's) side and pulled the unconscious girl next to him. He pulled the chop sticks from her hair and let the mid back length hair fall. Small baby doll curls cascaded down like a wave of red sea over her shoulders. He remembered the first time he saw her and how long her hair was. It made Zanhmere lose himself in his many thoughts again.

Her hair was not nearly as long as it was now. She looked scruffier and much skinnier and she was wearing a dirtied night dress that even he would not have put on his lowliest of Servants. The first time he saw her was when that fire was raging through her home like an unstoppable monster. He caused the fire. He didn't regret or feel bad that he did so. He didn't even feel bad knowing that he was the bad thing that tore her father's throat away.

His lack of caring spread to the fact that he didn't even care when he had fed the girl's eldest sister to his minions. He saved a special death for her mother, though. This man, this demon, let the fire consume the woman. It always confused him when he thought about this, really, for there was Trinity still. Oh, he remembered that vision well. Zanhmere had just changed from the vile creature that tore through her home when he heard the soft whimpers and cries of something.

The sound made his pointedly long ears tingle and his skin feel fuzzy right to the tips of blackened finger nails. What was this? He had to know and whatever it was that could do this to the strongest of all demons, he had to possess it. When he stepped through the flames, there she was. His perfect little breath was in a corner, cowering. She saw the man but did not know he was the very same creature that caused her to run into here. He was never aware that this girl watched him mutilate nearly every member of her family when he was in his demonic state until much later.

This girl cried and held her arms out to him. She only had to say three little words to him. That was all it took from her to make this black hearted beast of a man weaken his barriers. She whimpered them to him. The words of 'please, help me' were stained with her innocence. He could not understand that feeling either! His heart lurched in pain. He had no idea why he did not just rip her to shreds right there. When she cried out louder, actual tears were falling. The sounds of her desperate need for him to help her overtook the beast and he swept her up into his arms where the fire, that was inching closer and closer to her, could not claim this youth's life.

What was this? Why was he holding her close and riding away from the burning farm? The hooves of his stallion thundered along the ground. He felt the small seven year old child shift against him there. His eyes traveled down to see her cheek nuzzled against his chest. She was seeking comfort from him. He had thought that maybe if he took her from the fire he could dispose of her outside. He couldn't do that. The decision came almost instantly when his Trinity managed to croak a thank you between tears. That pain again! His tainted heart beat so quickly that he felt it might leap from his chest. What was this feeling!?

The demon still did not know that it was her pure innocence that touched even his darkened soul. Was he weak because of it? He was far from that. He could still kill without a thought. The decision passed through his mind again. He would keep this human child as his pet. That was his ideal plan but it had one flaw. He did not know anything about keeping human children. He knew how to kill them. He knew their flesh was tender and ripped with great ease. He often delighted in doing so, in fact. No, no, not this one, however. She was precious breath. Let any but him try and touch her and he would send them to the devil's gate, where even Entropy demons dare not tread.

What to do about her still played on his mind. The thought came again. It made his body shudder at first. He actually thought about releasing a soul from eternal punishment to care for this girl? Who could he get down there in his world? All of the souls there were much too dark and would likely try to taint this being in his arms. He needed someone different. Zanhmere needed someone who did not commit a sin to get them self banished down there. He had the perfect candidate. A young woman beseeched him and promised him her soul if he would release her bastard father's soul from hell's torment.

It was a trick on his part. He released the soul of her father and sent it to purgatory. The woman belonged to him after. He would not let this one slip away. His stallion came to a stop before a group of trees and neighed. This brought the cruel demon back to his senses. They were at the gateway. He looked down at his cargo one last time. She would stay alive in his world. He would not kill her. She would be the only living thing to touch his black palace's floors.

The horse moved forward with a nudge from its master. He brought his hand up and covered the girl's cheek and eyes with his hand. Trinity hugged her savior closer and she sighed for the first time. It struck him like a thousand hot daggers to hear that sigh of contentment. His heart, that moments ago, was only thinking about leaping from his chest had taken the leap and jumped to his throat. This was what he desired! He would always see she was contented like this for his desire. It was never really about her if he thought about it. He did everything for him. Her contented laugh made him feel that wonderfully strange way he did not understand. It was this feeling he would keep with him always.

The path ways parted between the trees and the horse walked through flames, which the girl could not see. She felt herself wrapped up in his coat and covered as he carried her from his stables. His dark fortress loomed over the dark land like a foreboding warning to all his minions. The land around it was dead and lakes of fire erupted from the grounds. This was not the lands she would see. He had a small piece of plush, green paradise within his palace walls. This garden is where she would play.

He placed her down from his arms. She clung to him. The girl trembled when she looked around the room of this palace. It was dark, and hardly something a child would like; but it was all he had for the moment. Why did he not push her away? Instead he knelt down so she could look into his ice blue eyes for the first time. His Trinity gave him her first smile. He liked that very much, even if he didn't realize it at the time. He remembered it all. He remembered bringing Missiva to her the very next evening. It was she who helped him to bring in the things that his Trinity would need. It was Missiva who told him of the soft bed and the toys.

The king of demons would not normally have listened to such suggestion, but they were for Trinity's contentment. He desired that contented feeling. It was from that moment on that his Trinity never wanted for anything. It was all for his desires that he did it. This girl was somehow that link to an innocence he never had. He would have it now, even if it meant watching it happen through someone else. He supposed that was why he elected to give her the elixir today. He did not want to lose what he had been keeping for himself.

He was a greedy demon. He would not deny it. Zanhmere never denied that it was about his wants. He could still kill a child without question. He had done so on many occasions and feasted on their bodies. None held a candle anyways to his Trinity. The sounds of a coo broke his train of thought. Her dove-like chirp made him pull from such intense, confusing things.

"Master?"

That word was sweet music to his ears simply because she said it. Trinity shifted against him. Her arm wrapped around his side and she cuddled herself against him.

"Yes Trinity?"

"I'm hungry." She was famished actually. She didn't eat breakfast and she slept through lunch right into the evening. Zanhmere pulled the plate of food that Missiva brought in for his dinner over. It was still warm, and the meat and beads smelled divine to her. Trinity timidly looked up at him. He nodded to her and she grinned wide. His Trinity pulled the plate over and started to dig in hungrily. She did not have to ask for a drink. He pulled the bone cup over and held it in arms reach for her.

She ate very daintily, even for someone who was hungry. Her small nibbles pulled at the meat. He watched her sip away at the red liquid inside the cup. It was not blood; else he would not have given it to her. It was a form of juice, at least for a demon.

"How do you feel, pet?"

"Mmm. I feel full and happy."

"That is good."

The plate and drink were set to a table on the side. Zanhmere brushed hair away from her eyes and smiled. Trinity giggled and hugged her arms around his, pressing her cheek against his hand. She was the only one in his whole entire world that could do this. This king of demons did not even have a demon mate. He did not care for one. If he wanted children, he would have them; but there was enough time for all of that. He had an eternity to do so in. His Trinity would be with him for this eternity now.

"Master?"

"Hm?"

"Can I go to the garden and play?"

"Of course, pet."

He pulled her up into his strong arms. Trinity wrapped her arms around his shoulders and neck in a hug as she leaned against him. Her legs wrapped around his sides. He carried her towards her favorite place now. Missiva gasped seeing them emerge from the room. She was glad to see Trinity was finally awake. She would not go over to them, however. The master would not like her intruding upon this time with his pet. Instead she busied herself with cleaning up the master's room and taking the empty food plate away to be cleaned. She could tell that Trinity had been the one to eat because of the small nibbles taken from the meat. "She will see that he eats."

Missiva chuckled and went about her duties. This punishment was much better when compared to what could have happened to her. Her soul belonged to him, after all. He could have made her a play thing for all of his minions. So, in a way, this was not a punishment. She liked the little girl. Many would not agree with her. Other servants of his palace saw her get attentions that they only could dream about. Instead they got torment and punishment, yet they could do nothing to her. Zanhmere kept it this way.

A passing demon guard bowed his head deeply to the passing king and his pet. Trinity knew this guard. She waved her little hand at him. Zanhmere did not deny her talking to others. He gave the glancing guard a nod. This let him know that it was okay to speak to them both.

"Good evening young Trinity and Master."

"Hi, Mayven! Did you get to go today?"

This had to be one of her favorite people, besides Master and Missiva, to talk to. He told her about small things that were okay to speak of, like flowers that he had seen while he was up in the world. Zanhmere brushed a hand through her hair to pull it back from her face. Trinity grinned widely at them both.

"Oh, I did go, Master's pet."

"Did you see any green flowers?"

"Not on this trip. I did see snow." The guard stood tall and proud, the fact that he was allowed to speak to Trinity spoke of his ranking amongst the master's guard. He was a handsome young guard with deep blonde hair and dark blue eyes. He wasn't quite as tall as the master, but he was well muscled and framed accordingly. Trinity always teased him that he made Missiva turn red in the cheeks when she looked at him. He saw this but he was not allowed to touch. Missiva was Trinity's personal caretaker. To hurt her meant certain banishment to places most unpleasant.

"Wow that's neat. Master?"

"Yes, Trinity?" Zanhmere glanced from Mayven to her. He could see her eyes burning with a question.

Mayven stayed quiet and merely listened until he was dismissed.

"Can you make it snow in the garden tonight?" Trinity knew masters garden well. She played there all of the time.

He could control the weather. He controlled the way it looked. He controlled every aspect about this plush, fantasy garden. It was created on a whim a long time ago when he desired something different. This garden was not the different he wanted but he kept it around. It might come in handy. He was right because he brought Trinity to it now. She enjoyed the garden. It was a more suitable choice to bring her to. She otherwise, had never left the inside of his palace walls.

"I think I can arrange that. Should we send Mayven to his duties now, or do you wish to still talk to him?"

"Oh! I didn't mean to keep you, Mayven."

Trinity smiled and hugged herself up against Zanhmere. He never put her down. Mayven bowed once more to the two and stepped off quietly. That was his permission to go about his expected duties.

"Master?"

"Yes, pet?"

"Thank you."

Zanhmere gave her his smile. His smile was rare to others. He was so straight faced and emotionless normally. Trinity giggled and kissed his cheek. She thought his fangs looked cute on him when he smiled.

"Come on. The garden has missed you all day."

He was off once again with his arms wrapped around his precious breath protectively. She was so much more to him. She was what kept him from losing that rare sense of him self. By watching her, he seemed to gentle. Others noticed this change in him from the very moment he brought her to the palace. Some appreciated it. Others, like jealous demon females, hated it. They could not get the master to so much as blink an eye in their direction. One actually tried to strike at the child in a rage of anger. Zanhmere took the blow before Trinity even knew what was happening.

He had sent her away with Missiva even though she was curious about what happened. She did not even see the female's claws rise up to strike her before he was between them and holding the woman's wrist. Zanhmere made an example of this female to all of his minions and servants. What happened to her was why you did not mess with or even think about hurting Trinity, or even Missiva.Though in Missiva's case, she was only protected because of Trinity. The demoness was not so lucky to have such protection. She learned of what was in the thirteenth hell. It was there that the demons of that seperate world would forever feast on her demonic flesh. It was there that she would play servant to creatures that walked on all fours, and it was there that He could unleash his own sadistic pleasures onto the tormented and beaten body of this demoness. He was the devil himself. He became her eternal tormentor, which pleasured him to the ends of the Earth and back.

"Master?"

Trinity looked up at him just before they entered the garden. Zanhmere paused with his hand on the door to look at her. His other hand held her up and against him. "Yes pet?"

"Has my forever with you started?"

"Yes, pet. Today you awoke to the first day of your forever with me."

With that the two were in the garden that was as much hers as it was his. Her moments of happiness would come and go always, but today truly did mark the beginning. She awoke to the first day of her forever after.
