The encounter and realizing truth
Act 3: The encounter and realizing truth
After his run in with Kujaku, Altair felt it was right to be even farther away from Desengong and Tasogare as possible. But there was a voice inside his head nagging that he was running away from his problems. What problems?! I do not have problems that I am running away from! He thought over and over again.
Altair began to notice what a bother his hair was becoming since it was a very dark jet black and reaching halfway down his back. Maybe I should get a trim. He thought. So he stopped in another town and went to a barber shop since he didn’t trust himself cutting his hair with his sword. (;^_^) He had it cut but not too short and not too long. “That’s much better.” He said as he walked out of the barbershop. Altair rented another room at a hotel and sat down on the bed. He sighed and laid back placing his arms over his eyes. He didn’t know what to think about right now. So many things were racing through his mind that he thought his head would burst open.
“I wonder how they’re doing without me?” He quietly asked himself. “Kiaosh is probably celebrating, Atsushi is too happy with Trinity to notice anything and Tasogare is with Mizu…” Thinking about that made the pain jump inside him. Now the very thought of Tasogare would hurt. “Why does it…Why does it hurt to think about him? To mention his name?” He paused “I’ve known him for so long and been with him through good times and bad and he’s been there for me too. He always gets over things so quickly or seems so. He won’t let any one get too close especially me…Damn it I guess he does care enough to not want us get dragged into his life but…(Sighs) That guy he’s just too confusing for me. And Kujaku said that I (Laughs) Yeah right.” He stopped laughing. “Yet, I can’t help but…” He thought about what Kujaku had told him: ‘You and him are very similar…Even tough you were born different times and have different outlooks…your souls could be one in the same with one another…’
“…Two totally different beings having similar souls…” He sat up and looked down at the floor. “Hmm…Maybe…ARGH!! No frickin way! Uh, I need to go get a drink.” He got up and left his room.
Altair found a pub and stayed inside until late in the night. He could drink all he wanted because human alcohol didn’t affect him.
“Maybe I should’ve headed to Ziaomkai, I at least get a little buzzed off their stuff.” He mumbled as he drank his fourteenth bottle finishing it off in one gulp. “ Hey, barkeep, another one, its like the frickin desert over here.” A woman sitting next to him looked at him and smiled. “My, you’re quite the little drinker aren’t you?”
“Yeah maybe” He took the bottle the barkeeper gave him and drunk it without looking at her. She smiled and moved closer to him. “Uh, Yes?” He looked at her. She was quite attractive. She had long wavy red hair and piercing green eyes. “……”
“I take you’re not from around here are you?” She asked scooting everso closer.
“Uh, no.” He said as a sweatdrop formed on the side of his forehead and he scooted away. “And…before you ask, I’m not human either.”
“Oh, I expected that much. Are you some form of demon or something?”
“Yes. Full blooded demon from the Third continent so, hey, watch out.” He faked laughed and turned to his drink. The woman grabbed his arm gently and leaned against him. Altair almost choked when he drank.
“I happen to love demons. I heard they love good--” She was cut off finishing her sentence by Altair getting up and away form her.
“Hey, hey, hey lady I don’t mean to be rude but…I’m a demon you are a very attractive and probably drunk human. I’m sure you’re a nice person and if I knew you…Wait, what am I talking bout? Uh,”
She stood up and went up to him. “I’m sorry. I was a bit fast back there wasn’t I? My name is Lyra. It’s nice to meet you…?”
“Uh, Altair.”
“Oh. Well Altair, if you want to get to know me then come up to my room. Here’s the key, its room number 23B.” She handed him the key and went by him trailing her hand on his chest. She leaned up and whispered in his ear, “ Don’t keep me waiting.” Altair gulped and turned around to she her wave at him before she left the pub.
Altair looked at the key had laid on his nightstand. He sighed. What the hell am I doing? Things just keep getting worse and worse…Now I got some woman’s room key and she expects me to…He groaned and laid down on his stomach. Why do things just get more complicated? “Is it me? Huh? Huh? (sighs) I’m acting too childish about this. I should really think about what I’m going to do about this.” He looked over at the nightstand. Maybe, being with another person right now would help me forget some things.
He hesitated but knocked on the door to Lyra’S room even though he had the key to it. She opened the door and when she saw who it was smiled. “Hey, you decided to come. Well, come in.” Altair again hesitated before entering. Lyra had a nice room. It looked like one of the more expensive suits to him.
“Look Lyra,” He started “You seem like a nice person but—” He stopped when he noticed the lights go dim. “But, I really think you should re-think about getting any interests in me.”
“But you said if you got to know me I might be a nice person.” She said going up to him. Altair blushed a little. He didn’t know it at first but she had changed her attire to something that revealed her body a little more, especially the upper region of her. He looked away form her. “Yes I know I said that but, I explained why you shouldn’t get to know me.”
Lyra smiled. “Oh, but I want to. I’m not afraid.” Altair sighed and held his head down. “How about some drinks?” She asked. Altair just slightly nodded. He sat down on the couch as she went to get a bottle and two glasses. She sat down next to him and poured his drink first then her own. Altair tried to smell if there were any drugs in it but it was safe. Knowing this he took a big gulp and winced a bit.
“Is it too strong for you?” She asked.
“Nah. I just haven’t had some like this in a while.” He answered and then finished it. He sat the glass on the table and Lyra refilled it.
“It’s been a while.” She said. Altair looked at her in slight confusion. “I’ve been traveling all this time and now have someone to talk to.”
“Oh, you’re a traveler huh?”
“Just recently. I’ve been looking for some one.” She took a sip of her drink. “You kinda remind me of him but I know you’re not him.”
Altair looked at her in silence then said: “I’m sure one day you’ll find him. It’ll just take a while.”
“Yeah, maybe.” She sniffed and wiped her eyes. Altair looked at her. “Hey, I didn’t mean to make you upset.” He put his hand on her shoulder. “It’ll be ok. You can’t get upset over it. If you’ve just started looking for him then you can’t let grief get to you. Trust me I know what it feels like to have all kinds of negative thoughts in your head and think you’ll never get over it.”
“Oh, Altair…” She hugged him around his neck almost knocking him over. “You’re so sweet and kind.”
Altair nervously smiled. “Uh, yeah…. Hey you can let go now.” She held on to him tighter. Altair started to freak out and grabbed her shoulders. “Hey, loosen up there.” He heard she mumble something under her breath. “What?”
She looked up at him. “Do me.”
“WHAT?!?!?” Altair tried to back away, his eyes wide in disbelief and shock that a stranger had asked such a thing.
“I want you Altair. Take me now.” Before he could get up she pushed him down on the couch.
Altair began to panic. “H-Hey. I think you had a little too much to drink probably before I got here. You don’t know what you’re—” he was cut off short when she put her lips to his. This woman is crazy. But…NO! I can’t let this go any further. He knocked her to the floor off him. She looked up furious at him as he wiped his mouth.
“Why did you do that for?” She asked still angry.
Altair stood up and looked down at her. “Because, if you looking for some one that you care about then you can’t let the pain in your heart make you do things you’ll regret later. If you care for this person as you say then you won’t let sadness take control of you.” Lyra stared in shock at him and looked down to the floor. Altair went to the door. “You can’t hide or run away from your problems. You have to face them head on and solve them or go on with the pain forever.” He left the room and the building.
He looked up at the night sky. “I think its time I took my own advice…but I can’t go back. Not just yet. Now I need to work out my own problems without hiding or running away.” He took a deep breath and left the town.
Inside Lyra’s room she continued to look down and began to giggle. Her hair became longer and changed color and her clothes and body changed back into its original form. Kujaku stood up and stretched. He giggled once again. “ Hmm, maybe now he’ll understand what to do.” And with that he vanished.
