Chapter Two: Tuomos
\"Who the hell are you?\" I asked angrily. Normally I don\'t get mad like this...but this guy had come onto my property without permission! What if I had still been naked or something? Can you say, \'illegal?\'
He just laughed good-naturedly. God damn him, he didn\'t even care! After finally catching his breath, he straightened up, and I finally got a good look at him.
He was wearing a Nightwish hoodie and faded, loose-fitting black pants. His hands were shoved into his pockets, and I noticed that he was wearing combat boots and sweating pretty badly. His hair was thick, dark as the night sky and long, just two or three inches above his elbows. His face looked like there had been days when it was always shaven, but now it looked like stubble was growing back. And his eyes were dark brown, almost black.
Riiiight. Freak.
\"Well?\" I said, even angrier, \"Who the hell are you?\"
\"Good God, they said you were loud, but I didn\'t expect this,\" he muttered. And then the weirdest thing happened. He grinned, in the same good-natured way as he laughed, and I saw his fangs again. And was it just me or was his mouth a bit bloodstained?
\"Okay, fine,\" he said calmly, \"I\'ll explain. My name is Tuomos, and I\'m a vampire. A daywalker, to be specific. That\'s why I\'m not burning up right now.\"
A vampire. He had said it so abruptly, yet so calmly, as if he was stating that he was of the male gender or that one plus one equals two. As if it was so obvious! Well, from the fangs and the bloodstains, yeah, it kind of was.
\"Yeah frickin\' right,\" I said, managing a nervous laugh, \"Vampires don\'t exist. And more importantly, what are you doing here?\"
\"It\'s time someone told you,\" Tuomos said, shrugging his rather thin shoulders, \"Your mother was a vampire - you\'re half-and-half.\"
\"Half...what, exactly?\" I asked skeptically.
\"Half human, and half vampire.\"
Silence reigned like a suffocating blanket.
\"And why am I supposed to believe this?\" I asked, still skeptical.
\"Lean down so that you can see your reflection in the pool, and open your mouth wide,\" Tuomos explained.
I did exactly that...and I saw fangs in my mouth!
\"Holy motherfucker of the gods!\" I yelled, jumping back and landing in the grass unexpectedly. Tuomos walked over, grabbed my arm, and pulled me up. Thankfully, the full-sized towel I had put on was still doing its job well.
\"So who the heck are you, anyway? How did you know my parents?\" I asked, massaging my aching back.
\"My father was a friend of theirs,\" he said, \"And I overheard a conversation once about your mother being what she was. When I found out that your parents died, I tried to track you down to inform you of your identity, and now I\'ve finally found you. And by the way, your fangs only recently emerged. They usually appear when the owner turns nineteen or so. Now you\'ll need to start drinking blood.\"
\"Okaaaay,\" I said, \"So what happens from here?\"
\"Your life is going to change in a big way, for better and worse,\" Tuomos said grimly, \"So you should start by meeting some of the more famous vampires in these parts. You can usually find the whole crew over at Club Cyleco, but we\'ll have to wait till it gets dark, since most of them aren\'t daywalkers like I am.\"
