The Game

The Game...

The sky grew darker as Evana arrived at the restaurant to meet Donavan. The night, the only life she adored, was beginning to caress the city. With every new night came a new sight, sound, and taste. It was amazing to experience and she lived and breathed the might life as if it was her only time to be free.

After work she rushed home to shower and dress for her date with the interesting man from the club. He had a mysterious aura that she could not understand. He was very difficult to read clearly but she had a feeling he wasn’t all that bad. His vibe was not threatening… it was just new to her. She decided there in the cab, that she was going to have fun tonight with this sexy stranger and at the same time keep her guard up.

Evana exited the car with all the grace of an attractive woman in an elegant little black dress. The hostess greeted her with a seemingly knowing smile and asked for her name.

“Evana Loken” she spoke softly as her eyes scanned the interior of the building. Brilliant red drapes hung from wall to wall, not allowing the streets a decent view into the establishment. Gold ropes dangled on the sides of the velvet fabric, decorated the chairs and other accessories of the room. This was a whole new environment . The soft Italian instruments wondered in the background of the light conversations amongst the customers. It was such a contrast from the floor shaking boom of her usual hot spot.

“Ahh yes, Mr. Collin is expecting you.” she smiled.

Evana was ushered through the small intimate tables. When they arrived in Donavan’s presence, she had noticed that the girl had lead her towards what seemed the back of the bistro and up a winding stair case that was obviously the V.I.P section.

“I’m glad you could make it,” he stood and gestured for her hand that he charmingly kissed. “You look wonderful.” Donavan commented, spinning her around.

“Thank you.” She smiled. “You didn’t think I would stand you up did you?” He pulled out her chair. When she was seated he joined her and signaled the waiter.

“Well truthfully, I didn’t know what to expect. We just met. You could’ve just as easily forgot about me as soon as you stepped through your front door.”

“Forget you?” she scuffed. “Impossible.”

That’s a good girl…he thought So far my dear elder is wrong. This is too easy. Donavan chuckled lightly. “What would you like to drink?”

“I’m really not that experienced with ordering wine, and I doubt that this place is famous for making a mean vodka and lime so how about you decide.” she said closing the wine menu after struggling to read the list.

“As you wish.” he turned to address the patient waiter who had been standing beside the table ready to take their orders. Donavan spoke in fluent Italian to their server then handed over the wine menus.

Evana took the opportunity to observe their current surroundings. He must have known the owner or had a large amount of money because only their table resided in the private section. Unlike the main floor of the restaurant candlelight overpowered the room. In the opposite corner a single violinist played for them under a dim spot light. The scene was drastically romantic and Evana fought with her self not to let all the beauty overpower her. She silently vowed to maintain her cool.

“So what do you think?” Donavan spoke lowly bringing her attention back to the table and their date.

“This place is…. “ She trailed off looking over the room once more.

“Overwhelming, I know.” He frowned. “I probably should’ve taken you some place you would feel more comfortable.” he insisted flatly. All part of his act, of course, to get her to agree so they could leave before he had to order food that he could not eat. Usually this tactic worked on all his other victims. He took his napkin from his lap and began to stand when she reached over and lightly touched her hand.

“No, no Donavan this place is unbelievably beautiful.” she assured him.

Again he tried to persuade her. “But you look a little strained, why don’t we- ?” He was cut off by the arrival of the bottle of wine. When the glasses were poured he continued to make alternate plans for them. “We can just go to this cozy little place I seen not too far from here.” He took a sip of his glass and haphazardly swallowed.. He hated wine.

So you want to leave Mr. Donavan? Evana smiled from behind her glass. Well I want to stay…

With her seductive style switch turned on, she leaned forward giving an ample view of her most deadly weapons, her eyes. She reached for his hand again after putting her glass down far to the side. Evana took his hand not letting him escape the gaze she used to perplex many men. “This place Donavan is excellent,” her voice dripping with a lusty spark of sex and class, “The wine tastes excellent, the service is excellent, and the company….” she raised his hand to her mouth and slowly kissed the back, eyes still focused on the stunned man. “….is excellent.”

“I..” Donavan started to say but could not get the rest of his sentence to fall from his lips as long as he kept eye contact with the beauty in front of him. “….just thought that…” He blinked and tried his hardest to break the stare. Her cell phone rang and she broke the intense session.

“Excuse me,” She said in her normal voice. “I must take this call. The ladies room is?” Donavan stood as did she and he pointed over her left shoulder, unable to speak. She smiled politely.

“I’ll be right back, order for me..” with that she turned on her stiletto heels and casually walked in the direction that he had directed.

LUCAS! Donavan sceamed telepathically, paceing as soon as she was out of sight.

“You rang?” The elder spoke laughingly as he walked out of the shadows of the rooms darkest corner.

“What the hell was that?” He breathed frantically. “She… she… had me..”

“Under her spell..” Lucas sang, still chuckling lightly.

“That was not funny… This was serious.” He stopped pacing. “And now I have to order for her, she expects food.”

“You said you loved a challenge did you?” With that Lucas disappeared into nothingness.

Think… think… think… He stopped suddenly in the center of the floor. He had an idea. “Plan B it is then.” he said to the quiet room.

“You burned down the damn place?” Lucas eyed the younger man as he sat in front of the fire place of his study.

“Just the kitchen…” Donavan spoke nonchalantly as he flipped through the pages of a book that he was using to distract his thoughts which where on the girl. “Rotillio.. Ramono.. Whatever his name is, can get it fixed in no time…” he trailed off. Lucas walked over to where he sat and snatched the book from Donavan’s hands.

“One day you will learn to be more discrete. Did you ever think about your identity ever being found out, what with all the crazy ‘mishap’s’ that seem to occur when you are around.” Lucas said tossing the book to the side. Donavan then stood and dodged the assalt, walking over to the window. “What did you do after that Mr. Arson?”

Donavan leaned against the window frame and stared at the moon. “I took her home and apologized for our dinner being ruined. We had to stay for questioning by the fire martial before leaving the scene. We didn’t have time to find another place to go…”

“And you planned another date?”

“Of course…”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The office bused with ringing phones and talkative noise. Evana sat with her door ajar and was reading over the new articles on ‘7 Ways to Outsmart a Rapist’ and ‘Feel Sexier Naked’ when her devoted assistant casually walked in, closing the door behind her and sat patiently in front of Evana’s desk.. Legs crossed, her usually approach to start a conversation. Evana looked up and shock her head smiling.

“The date… spill it..” Rebecca demanded snapping her finger.

“It was nice.. Until we had to evacuate the building.”

“Evacuate?” she leaned forward.

“The kitchen caught on fire.” Rebecca blinked then opened her mouth to comment when Evana continued with the story. “I had went to the bathroom to answer this call on my cell and when I got back to the table everything seemed fine. He said that he had ordered us a nice pasta dish that used to be his grandmothers specialty and then water…” she ran a hand through her hair brushing it from her face.

“Water?”

“The sprinklers. We were soaked. Then to make madders worse we couldn’t leave until the fire department questioned everyone to see if we had seen anything. Apparently some one set the… fire…” she said slowly, now thinking about how hesitant Donavan was about staying there before she went to the bathroom.

“What’s wrong?” Rebecca asked

“Nothing.” she said, thinking of the look on his face when she insisted that the restaurant was perfectly fine. “Anyway we set another date, but I don’t think I’ll be available.”

“That’s too bad.” Rebecca stood and prepared to leave. “He was interesting while it lasted.”

Yes… Interesting…
