Chapter Three
He laughed as if the whole thing was an inside joke to him, \" Your past has to be on a file somewhere. My little brother is smart, and can hack into almost anything. He should be able to find out what happened to you no problem.\" I got off the swing and looked at him, \" Are you serious?\" He nodded and got up as well, \" Yeah, come on he\'s always home we can go see him now.\" He said and walked off. I grabbed my bag and ran up to catch up with him, \" Oh yeah, by the way my name\'s Josh.\" He told me as I followed him to his house.
The two story house looked like one that belonged to a \'perfect\' family. Judging by the pictures on the walls, it did. I found Josh\'s picture on the wall. However his dirty blonde hair was combed neatly, and out of the way of his dark green eyes. He was even in a suit. I looked over at him, his hair was a mess and fell into his eyes, he black jeans were tattered and ripped, and his blue t shirt was ripped on one sleeve and had a stain on the bottom. \"Parents only like showing you at your neatest pose?\" I asked curiously. He laughed and nodded, \" Yeah I guess so.\" I looked down at myself, I was wearing guy shorts, and a black tank top that tied in the back. I deffanetly was not perfect family material.
We headed down a flight of stairs leading to a basement. It was my paradise down here. It was dark, only light with black lights. The walls and ceiling were decorated with various pictures and figures from mythical legends, stories, and fairy tales. That\'s what it was, a living fantasy. I lamp light up a computer in the far corner. I heard a small voice all out from behind it, \" Is that you Josh?\" Up ahead of me Josh nodded, \" Yeah Nick it\'s me. I brought a friend who needs your help.\" He said as he sat down at the end of the bed next to the computer.
I didn\'t sit next to him though. I walked over behind the computer to see his brother. He was small, only about 4 feet 11 inches. His hair was messy and brown, his shirt blue and stripped, and his blue jeans were baggy. He looked like a normal kid, with large glasses that showed off his dark blue eyes well. I held my hand out to him, \" I\'m Kid, nice to meet you Nick.\" He gave a small smile as he looked at me, only he looked at me like I was a living character from one of his comic books. \" You\'re....not like all the other girls Josh brings home.\" I ignored the last part and laughed, \" I\'m not like anyone else at all.\" I said, and that seemed to get him to like me more.
He shook my hand...and the room fadded. ((It was hazy, but I could tell I was in a hospital room. Voices around me helped me figure out that they were currently worried about a boy who\'d been shot on North Avenue. I walked closer to the bed trying to let my vision get better. A loud beep filled my ears as his hear stopped beating, the picture finally became clear as I saw it was Nick laying on the hospital bed.)) I shook my head to clear the vision. I was back in Nicks room, while Nick looked at me as if I\'d shocked him. I smiled and pulled my hand away, \" Sorry about that Nick..I saw..something.\" I said not wanting to worry him about it.
Nick shrugged trying as well to brush it off. \" Well what do you need help with?\" He asked curiously. I smiled and sat down in an empty chair next to him. \" I need you to look up my past.\" One of his eyebrows rose in question so explained. \" I don\'t remeber anything from my past except for this year. No one will tell me why, so I wanna find out myself.\" He listened and nodded when I finished, \" Alright...though it may take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for me to figure out even where to start looking.\" I just nodded, \" I don\'t mind how long it takes, I just want to know.\" I check the watch on my wrist and stood up, \" I\'m sorry I\'ve got to go, meeting about a murder case.\" I told him and he nodded, \" Alright stop by tommorow and I\'ll let you know how it\'s going.\" I gave him a greatful smile, \" Thanks Nick, I owe you one.\"
Josh stood up, \" I\'ll walk you out.\" He said and I followed him upstairs waving bye to Nick, he didn\'t see it though. He was typing furiously on his key board with his eyes glued to the screen. I stop at the front door my back to Josh trying to figure out what to say. He had to know what I saw...but I couldn\'t tell him his little brother was going to die. \" Josh.\" I started. He didn\'t move but answered, \" Yeah?\" I turned back to look at him, \" Don\'t let your brother any where near North Avenue.\" That was all I told him, before I walked off to make my way to the crime lab station down town.
