Chapter 3
-3-
Vivianna unlocked the front door and walked up the two flights of stairs. She reached apartment twelve and let herself in.
“Dillon?” she called throughout the small apartment. She stepped inside and shut the door behind her. “Dillon?”
“I’m still in here,” came the muffled reply from his room.
Vivianna walked pasted the piles of clothes and knocked on his door respectively. It pushed open by itself and she peeked around the door. Dillon looked as if he had fallen onto the bed right after their confrontation and had not moved since.
“Which one was it?” Vivianna asked quietly. She knew he had at least two that he was getting serious with.
“It was Samantha,” his voice was a whisper. “The worst part is that I didn’t call her the name of someone I’m dating.”
“Then who?” Vivianna asked. She had a nagging feeling she knew exactly who he was talking about.
“I called her,” Dillon swallowed and turned to face her. He met her eyes and swallowed again. “I called her Vivianna.”
She couldn’t move. What was she supposed to say?
“Uh,” Vivianna sat down on the side of his bed. He snuggled to try and get closer to her but she moved away. “Dillon… I, I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t need to say anything. Your body language states it all,” Dillon moved around her and sat next to her on the bed.
“It’s not that, Dillon. I just invited someone here tonight,” Vivianna waited for the outburst. Dillon had asked her out a week after they moved in together and she had said she didn’t want to be involved with anyone.
“You said…” he began but a slashing motion from Vivianna.
“I know what I said. But, Arden isn’t—”
“Arden? The substitute?” Dillon looked at her disgusted. He continued to speak as he put on his clothes. “You’re A isn’t good enough for you? You need a better grade? Or is it normal men aren’t good enough for you?” Dillon started walking out the door of his bedroom when he turned back to her. \"Get your ass outta my room.”
Vivianna anger boiled to the surface.
That asshole! She stood up and walked to stand in front of him still inside his room. Does he think he needs to care who I invite over? I’m gonna kick his… Vivianna thought drifted as she thought of the consequences if she did kick his ass. Dillon would run and tell someone… and then gossip would make it worse and that would draw attention. Attention she couldn’t afford in her direction. It had taken so long to cultivate the cover and if anyone connected her…
“Dillon…” Vivianna looked at him.
“Vivianna, I won’t be coming home tonight,” his lips twisted into a sneer, “and I won’t interrupt. So don\'t worry.”
Dillon turned and stalked out of the house and Vivianna cringed as the door slammed. She stepped into the living room and the laundry day mess. She sighed and collected the clothes and threw them into his room.
Vivianna turned and began to meticulously clean the apartment. She finished with the living room and began with the kitchen.
“Shit,” Vivianna said as she sat down at the kitchen table. It was dark out and she had finished cleaning the kitchen and house. The floor sparkled and everything was in its place. “That was more work than I thought it would be.”
She turned and looked at the clock on the TV in the living room. It was six o’clock.
Time to get ready, she thought as she got up from her seat. She left the immaculate kitchen and living room and entered her bedroom. She stepped into her attached bathroom and turned on the hot water.
