Chapter 2
Gabby walked back into her house as Jason drove off. She walked into the living room and flopped on the chair turning on the T.V. Did I just have a date with Jason or is it just my wishful thinking? She couldn’t concentrate on the T.V so she turned it off and walked to the computer room and stood in front of the book case that was placed carefully placed against the wall. It held so many stories of love, hate, sorrow, and fantasy. She looked at Grimm fairy tales and sighed. Wishful thinking. But he was going to kiss me! Wasn’t he? She gave up the topic with herself and walked to her room and laid on her bed. Still I was with Jason!!! She wanted to get up on her bed and start dancing around but she controlled herself.
“Gabby?! It’s your Uncle Robert! Are you ready?” Called the male voice she adored so.
“Almost!” She lied. She hurried and threw clothes for the week in a bag, grabbed C.Ds and three pairs of shoes. On her way out of her room she grabbed her backk ank and her notebooks. “Can you help me please and thank you,”
Robert resembled her mother, after all he was her mother’s brother and her favorite member of the family. His hair was blond like her own, his eyes were a deeper blue than hers and he didn’t look his age he looked in his early thirty’s but truthfully was 45. He grabbed her back pack and her clothes. “What are you moving in?”
“Can I?” Gabby joked.
“Living with your aunt Sarah isn’t that bad is it?” Robert laughed.
“Then Why did you divorce her?” Gabby cocked an eyebrow.
“You have me on that one…” Robert smiled. “Kiddo you know I would love for you to live with me but-”
“But Sarah is Daddy’s sister and you want to respect his wishes and leave her to care for me, I know, but Daddy is dead and I’m sure he wants me to be happy,” Gabby sighed.
“You know your Aunt Sarah needs you, she can’t have her own kids, and she thinks of you as her own. So just deal with it, you’re almost 18 just pretend you are her kid for two more years,”
“Easier said than done,” Gabby rolled her eyes as she loaded her stuff in his trunk.
“Sorry Gabby,” Robert got in the passenger side.
“You’re letting me drive?! Oh Thank you!” Gabby shut the trunk and got in the driver side, then shut the door.
“Not just letting you drive but I know your 17th birthday is on the way, and your aunt tells me your car broke down again so… this is your new car,” Robert smiled.
“Really?! Oh my god you know I love this car!” Gabby squealed hugging her uncle tight, “I love you, I love you, I love you!!!”
“Gabby…can’t… breath..” Robert gasped.
Gabby let go not knowing what her uncle tried saying, “I knew you were cool but I just, Oh my god, and, this car, Oh Uncle Robert you’re the best!!!” She started the car and backed out of the Drive way. She got in her purse then pulled out a pack of cigarettes and opened them.
“Still smoking?” Robert chuckled.
“Yea, and yourself?” Gabby pulled out two cigarettes offering Her uncle one.
He accepted it, “Like a chimney” They both shared laugher as they lit their cigarettes and headed down the road. “So how was your day?”
“Well like always, Jade and I left early then went to the bar, This time I only had one drink! Then I headed home, I called that guy I told you about and we went to eat, sort of like a date, then you came” Gabby said as she took a drag of her cigarette.
“That’s nice, you know if your mother was alive she would throw a fit,” Robert smiled. “But as long as you don’t screw up your life it is fine with me, just don’t get caught, and don’t use drugs.”
“You go through this with me all the time Robert I will behave, I am still young and I am having fun while I can, I don’t ever plan to do drugs so you can sleep better at night knowing that.” Gabby smiled but kept her eyes on the road.
“Isn’t that guy you like your bus driver?” Robert asked as he flicked his cigarette out the window.
“Yes but I found out that he is only 20, not 24 like I thought he was.” Gabby smiled again.
Robert just nodded and leaned back on his seat. “Aren’t you going to ask how my aty at the hospital was?”
“No, I know the answer to that already…. Bloody, and gross.” Gabby flicked her cigarette out the window.
“Mainly yes.” Robert smiled.
***
Gabby laid on her bed at her uncles house, staring at the wall beside her bed. She had an Eminem poster there the rapper Eminem not the candy. She sighed noticing that Jason had looked like him but different colored hair. “Interesting, I haven’t noticed that before.”
“Noticed what Gab?” Gabby’s three year old cousin asked entering her room. She had black hair up in pig tails, blue eyes just as Gabby’s and Gabby’s mischievous look about her features.
“Oh nothing Hydra, come here and give me a bear hug!” Gabby held out her arms and waited for Hydra to run up to her.
Hydra got a big smile and ran up to Gabby throwing herself in Gabby’s arms. “I missed you so much!”
“Oh, I missed you too,” Gabby loved holding her little body in her arms it made all of Gabby’s fears seem to just disappear. Like the night 8 years ago. “Hydra do me a favor…”
“huh?” Hydra looked up at Gabby.
“never grow up.” Gabby kissed her forehead and smiled.
“But I want to and be just like you!” Hydra smiled and got off Gabby’s bed and ran out to the hall, “Dinner is ready by the way.” She then ran down the hall.
Gabby smiled lightly and stood up when her phone rang in her room. “Hello?”
“Gabby?” A familiar voice asked.
“Jason?” Gabby was surprised. “How did you get this number?”
“Your friend Jade, tell me are you at you father’s house?”
“Oh… No my Uncle’s, my dad died in a war when I was 8.” Gabby sat back down on her bed.
“Sorry I asked, I was just wondering…”
“No it’s ok you don’t need to apologize,” Gabby sort of laughed out.
“Wanna come with me to this rock show at the park?”
“When?”
“Half an hour, is that ok?”
“Yea, but do you know where my Uncle lives?” Gabby asked.
“Well I think, I drive your cousin Hydra to preschool.”
“Great! Well I have to get ready so I guess I’ll let you go,” Gabby smiled wide.
“No wear what you wore today at the mall, it looked really nice on you,”
“ Ok… Fine I will, Oh hold on a sec.” Gabby put her hand over the phone, “Uncle Robert?!!”
“Yea Gab?” Called Robert.
“Can I go out tonight?”
“With who?”
“Jason!”
“Fine.”
Gabby jumped up and down with a smile on her face. “Thank you, Thank you SOOO Much!!!” She got back to the phone “Ok I am allowed to go with you”
“Ok well I will be at your uncles in about 15 minutes.”
“I thought you said it started in half an hour?”
“I wanna spend some time with you first. Is that ok?”
“Yea is it fine, bye,” She hung up the phone and squealed out loud. She ran out her bedroom door and down the hall to the dining room where her Uncle, Step aunt and Hydra were eating peacefully.
“Sit by me Gabby!” Hydra smiled and patted the chair beside her.
Gabby smiled and gracefully sat down beside Hydra and looked across to her Uncle, “Excited?”
Gabby nodded, “Oh I am very excited!” Gabby smiled, “I think Jason likes me!”
Her step aunt’s name was Nikki. She was the type that would freak out if you sit on the toilet with out putting a cover on it or fully cleansing your underside. Brown hair, green eyes, and looks like a teen ager. “What are you excited about?”
“A date type thing,” Gabby waved it off.
“Well,” Nikki had a smile on her face. “Where is it?”
“A Rock Show at the park,” Gabby smiled.
“Oh I will give you some moist towels lets so you can wipe your seat and every thing down.” Nikki stated as she reached for her purse.
“NO! Hem… Nikki? I am fine, the last thing I am worried about is germs.” Gabby stopped Nikki quickly, “Seriously,”
Nikki smiled sweetly, “Ok Dear, I hope you have a good time, but please don’t wear your shoes in the house unless you fully clean them please, Oh and there is rubber gloves at the door just in case.”
“Nikki, I will be fine, nothing is going to come with me, you need to get a grip for goodness sake.” Gabby started to raise her voice. “Ok, Well it was nice talking with you all, I don’t know what time I will be back but don’t wait up after 10 PM ok? Night Hydra love you,” Gabby got up and grabbed her jacket. “See you all later,” She walked out of the door just as Jason pulled up.
“Good you listened to me,” Jason hollered out of his window.
Gabby smiled and ran up to the passenger side of his car. “Miss me?”
“We go through this every time we meet Gabby,” Jason laughed.
“Well did you?” Gabby mock smiled.
“You know I did,” Jason smiled and looked directly at her.
Wow, his eyes, his body language, his every thing, is just so WOW!! Gabby screamed in her head. “The weather is looking like hell again…”
“I think it is going to storm.” Jason said looking up as they drove down the road, “Remind me to put my roof up then will ya?” He looked over at Gabby and saw her sitting staring ahead not moving it looked as if she was in shock. “Gabby?”
Gabby shook her self awake then took a deep breath, “Jason, promise me one thing…”
“What? What is wrong?” Jason put his hand on her hand.
“Hold my hand all night tonight, don’t leave me at all, please..” tears were threatening to pour from her eyes.
Jason took hold of her hand and squeezed lightly, “Ok, but why?”
Gabby shook her head, “I’ll tell you at a better time, let’s just have fun tonight ok, just don’t let go of my hand, I want to know you are there.”
Jason nodded, “So… what station do you listen to?”
“I don’t listen to the radio, I just get C.Ds what ever sounds interesting to me I buy it,” Gabby smiled lightly, “Uncle Robert says my mother was the same way,”
“Do you remember your parents at all?” Jason asked.
“My mother always smelt like Vanilla, and she would sing you could swear you could hear angels, and her hands were always so soft, you didn’t want to touch them because you would be scared to soil them. Ah and her hair was so perfect, but when I was eight years old a night like this she was driving my father home from his job, and she got shot in the head, an hour later my father was killed leaving my house in London, I thought it was thunder but… it was a gun,” Tears formed in her eyes again, “My father was so strong, he and my mother seemed so perfect for each other, Every one would look at them and stare in awe, then when they had me around it was ten times better the reaction we all gos uns uncanning, and I would give anything to feel like that again.” She glanced over at Jason, who had tightened his grip on her hand.
“Now I understand why you don’t want me to let you go, Gabby I wont leave your sight tonight. Ok I don’t want you to get scared when I am around ok? I don’t ever want to see these in your eyes again,” He wiped a tawayaway.
“Don’t fret over it, I just want to know you wont leave me, not to sound all girlfriendy but it is just a sense of security for me,” Gabby laughed a little then looked ahead again.
“Well then what would you like to listen to?” Jason smiled. “I’ve got, Linkin Park, System Of A Down, Godsmack, Puddle of Mud, Kittie-”
“Kittie sounds great, the album Spit please.” Gabby broke in.
Jason chuckled, “You know you are a completely different person off the school bus.”
w sow so?” Gabby turned to face him but knew he wouldn’t face her so he could keep an eye on the road.
“On the bus you are all, flirty, but you aren’t now… Why is that?” Jason’s lips twisted in a smile.
“Well… I don’t know? I never noticed that before, I think it is the whole ‘oh my bus driver is cute and I know I’m cute so I can flirt’ thing ya know?” Gabby shrugged.
“Oh so you think I am cute?” Jason teased knowing he would get a blush fGabbGabby, then when she did blush he let out a low laugh, “You’re cute too,”
“I know I am,” Gabby grinned then turned to face the road as she listened to the lyrics that Kittie sang. “So who is playing at the rock show?”
“A few local bands, Lighter Fluid, Deserted freaks, and Angels of Fire,” Jason said as he thought of the band names, “Some one needs to give them new names though,”
“I like the name Lighter Fluid, that is an interesting band name.” Suddenly Gabby craved a cigarette. “Do you smoke Jason?”
“Only socially, you?” Jason lifted an eyebrow.
“Yes, do you mind if I smoke in your car?”
“Go ahead,”
“Would you like one?”
“What kind?”
“Menthol, for now anyway, it is all I could get from my aunt,” Gabby stuck her tongue out.
“Sure,” Jason smiled at the look Gabby had given, then he watched from the corner of his eye as she got into her purse to grab two cigarettes and a lighter. He accepted the cigarette she handed to him then patiently waited for Gabby to light her cigarette and give him the lighter. He lit the cigarette and took a deep drag and inhaled.
Gabby looked out the side of the car and smiled. I like riding with him… it seems so natural. She looked back over at Jason and bobbed her head to the music playing in the radio. “The knife is on the table, I’ll put my self to sleep… I never really knew what the rest was” Gabby half blushed.
“That’s ok neither do I,” Jason winked at her then smiled revealing his white teeth in a wicked twist of his lips.
Gabby started to laugh at the sight of Jason and soon she had forgotten that she was scared in the first place. She let go of his hand and sighed. “I like being with you,” Gabby spoke before she thought. Oh shit! “I mean, uh, oh no…” She trailed off but didn’t look away from Jason’s shocked expression. Oh now I did it, he isn’t gonna want to be around me any more. Suddenly she heard a chuckle from Jason.
“Well I like being with you too, I mean you are something else, a real good friend.” Jason said with a smile, “Friends for a while right?”
Gabby half smiled, friends? Just friends? “Right” She said in a whisper. “We’ll always be friends” Gabby again looked away as she finished her cigarette and threw it away from the car. She sighed again. Of coarse Gabby, he’s only going to be your friend, you are so young. Gah! Gabby sat in silence the rest of the way to the rock show.
Jason parked the car and looked at Gabby, "Ready?"
Gabby nodded then got out of the car. She looked around seeing a lot of her fellow classmates. She really didn't take the liberty in getting to know them since she moved to America. She then looked at Jason as he moved slightly ahead of her meeting up with two, guys and just the same amount of girls his age. She watched him smile and laugh as he talked to the people. He didn’t even look over to her. I wish he would look at me like that, he still thinks of me just as a job, his responsibility to get to school, God why didn’t I notice sooner? Gabby frowned slightly then turned around and started walking the different direction.
“Uh, Jason, your date is leaving,” One of the girls said to him.
Jason looked around and saw Gabby rapidly disappearing into the crowd. “Gabby!!” He started going after her.
