Entry three- Trespassers will be welcomed

Entry three- Trespassers will be welcomed

So, I had left off with about the very unfortunate party.

I was fixing myself dinner when we both heard pounding on the door. Adrian was comfortably seated on the sofa in front of the fireplace, which is much closer to the front door then the kitchen. For that reason, I did not see much point in leaving my station even as the pounding continued with the same annoying urgency.

\"I suppose you are going to let me open the door?\" Adrian called out in a lazy, gentle voice.

\"You are the closest.\" I shouted back, not so gently.

\"You are the serv\" H\" He replied too quickly.

\"Uninvited guests are at the door. That is a job left up to you. Unless you want me to be killed get the door.\"

\"Honestly Jonas, the exaggerations you will come up with to cover your laziness is astounding.\" He sounded faint; he must have been on his way to the door. \"You know it\'s a snow storm, you could be sending your master to his death by phenomena.\"

\"I can live with that.\" I laughed to myself. Adrian has already been dead for more than three hundred years.

\"I\'m sure you will, mio Uccello.\" He whispered under his breath as he turned the doorknob. Ucello is his pet name for me, it means Bird in his native Italian. Our bond allows me to hear little things like that. I also heard the doorknob and the chattering of teeth.

I came to stand in the kitchen doorway, closest to the hearth but close enough to the door to see who had been foolish enough to disturb us. Two young women and one male, all of about the same age, stood on the doorsteps. He, the boy, had fire red cheeks and was all but blue in the lips. The two girls clung to each other with their hands under the others arms for warmth. I could not see their faces because they had burrowed into each other’s shoulders. And though their hair was dark and wet with snow, I could tell they were both blondes...who didn\'t even have the manners to look up when my master welcomed them in.

Adrian garbed the young man by the sleeve of his puffy winter coat and pulled him inside. \"Oh hurry, come inside and warm up, please please.\"
Then he called for me to put on the tea kettle. \"Jonas, something hot for our guests?\"

The cold has forced many through our doors when they might not have ever done so on their own. Sightseers, adventures, lost souls, all seek shelter at one point or another. Adrian is always generous with his hospitality. He enjoys entertaining. I truly believe it makes him happy to offer humans a taste of his lifestyle. Or perhaps he is just flaunting? Sometimes I wonder if we live at this harsh altitude because he is a recluse or if it is because he is a histonic. There is something to be said about a man who builds his house on the top of a mountain.

I did as my master asked then made myself available to our guests. Adrian had them seated on the sofa in front of the fireplace. \"Jonas, get this damn thing hotter, will you?\" He pointed to the fire \"Can\'t you see these poor things are half frozen.\" A twitch of a smile escaped my lips \'Frozen entree\' I thought to myself with some amusement.

They stared at me as I proceeded to poke the fire coals. Perhaps seeing someone close to their age put them at ease. I looked back at them and the two girls reached for the males hands. Perhaps not.

\"This is Jonas,\" Adrian gestured towards me \",he works for me. If you need anything ask him, because I don\'t know where anything is.\" He laughed, short and soft, like a tickle.

\"Oh, like a butler or something?\" The male asked with a bit of excitement. I think he was relieved to hear I was Adrian’s employee and not his... something else. Perhaps it was Adrian’s obvious fondness of all things silken and shiny that gave him the idea.

\"Yes, something like that.\" As I spoke to the young man while I lowered my head giving the expected appearance of subordination. \"My masters guest may ask for my assistance.\" I gave a quick glance at Adrian. He gave me an approving nod. \"So please, ask me if you need anything because Adrian is right. He does not know his way around his own house.\"

\"Thank you Jonas.\" Adrian interrupted me. \"Is the tea ready yet?\"

\"I would think so.\" I turned on my heel to go check the water.

\"Bring us some brandy also, when you come back, per favore.\"

But the girls protested, saying that tea would be fine, even though Adrian insisted it would help warm them up. Then one of the girls proceeded to tell him how is was a fallacy to think alcohol warms the body when actually made you colder.

I guess she did not realize the insult of turning down a drink or suggesting your host is an idiot? They just did not understand the position they were in. The ill-mannered cows should have stayed out in the snow. I had little sympathy for them after that.
