Part 3: Enter the Wolf

"Oh come on, is that any way to talk to your old friend Francis?"
The man with Rose was defintally older than Rose and very masculine with his musclely body. Francis is one of the local woodcutters that the town depends on to harvest the wood from the forest. While most of the women in the village were fond of him, he only had eyes for Rose and wasted no moment to be with her...which irritated her to no end.
"I wouldn't call you a friend," Rose said.
"Oh, then what would you call me?" Francis asked as he embedded his axe in a tree trunk he was in the middle of cutting.
"Oh Francis, you know it's impolite for women to use profanity," Rose said innocently enough. Francis was puzzled by this at first, but when a few choice words ran through his head a grin painted itself on his face and he wagged his index finger at her as if she were a naughty child.
"Oh Red, you can be quite amusing."
"I wish you wouldn't call me that," Rose said as she crossed her arms.
"And I wish you would give into me and..." Francis said as he began to approach Rose with that familar hungry look in his eyes.
"No Francis," Rose said firmly and he stopped in his tracks.
"No?"
"That's right, no. I'm like the other girls who'll drop their skirts because you say so."
"I know, that's why I lo..."
"Francis. No. Grandmother wouldn't approve unless we were married and even then, I still wouldn't let you screw me."
"Why not?"
"Because, I don't love you."
Francis frowned and began to appraoch her again when he heard someone call his name from the woods.
"Go of with your friends and just leave me alone," Rose said.
"I will, for now. But here's a little friendly warning, wolves have been sighted recently and it isn't exactlly safe for a young woman such as yourself to alone in the woods," Francis said.
"Well then, thank you for the warning and I'll keep an eye out. Good day," Rose said, curtsied and took her leave. Francis just stood there and watched that sexy little thing walk down the road. He was pulled out of the trance when he heard one of the other wood cutters call out his name.
"Here! I'm over here!" Francis called out, highly annoyed because he had an extreme hard on which he couldn't tend to right away...

Furthur down the road, Rose entered the forest via a little known foot path she always used to find her way home. Grandmother told her, stay on that path and you'll be safe. Being the good girl she is, Rose did as she was told and always made it home safely. But today, her mind was distracted by Francis's warnings and Grandmother's illness.
'If what Francis said was true, then Grandmother and I wouldn't be safe out here at night...' Rose thought and mulled the situation over in her mind as to how to make the two of them safer..at least, without Francis' help. She was so lost in her thoughts that she missed the wide right turn she was suposse to take and continued to walk in a straight line. A mistake she didn't seem to notice untill she was several feet off the path in a patch of wildflowers.
"Oh shit," Rose cursed, most annoyed, as she looked around for the path. She was just about to find it when she heard a noise behind herself. Rose whirled around and her breath caught in her throat when she saw a shaggy looking grey wolf as it stood on a small ridge taller than her with the sun streaming behind it. Though it was a magnificent sight, it was also a frightening one as well for the wolf had its gaze fized on Rose and it looked very hungry.
Poor Rose was rooted to the spot with fear and the fact that the two of them were well over ten feet apart didn't make feel any more confortable becasue she knew that wolves were fast runners when it came to catching prey; and this one was looking at her like she was lunch. At that same moment, a warm breeze blew behind Rose and the warmth wrapped itself around her like a security blanket. Rose began to relax enough that she felt like she could move again. Slowly but surely, she began to take a cautious step back towards the saftey of the path. But she would never reach for two more hungry wolves appeared to her right and left sides. In a panic, Rose fled into the woods and the three wolves gave chase.
Rose ran as fast as she could trying to avoid the onslaught of wayward tree branches which often smacked her in the face. In the back of her head, a small voice thanked the forces that be that she wasn't being chassed at night, or else the wolves would have the upper hand or even worse, she would have ran into a tree and knocked herself out cold only to wake god only knows when.
In the end though, the chase end when Rose skidded to a stop mere inches from a sheer drop into a gorge. Rose looked around in a panic because she had absolutely no clue where she was, she had never been this far into the woods before. She quickly moved away from the drop and turned around to find another route of escape only to stop in her tracks to see that the three wolves had caught up with her. Rose shook in her boots in fear as the three wolves slowly closed in on her, their glossy white teeh bared as they growled at her.
It surely looked like the end for Rose as the sunlight began to fade, making things look like shadows. But just as the lead wolf was about to pounce on Rose, there came a loud growl and a large human like figure appeared out of nowhere to stand between Rose and the wolves. But before Rose react to this newcomer, he and the three wolves brought into a no holds fight. Rose's hands flew to cover her mouth as she could only stand there and watch the dark figures of the wolves and her rescuer fight amongst themselves. Yet while wolves fought as wolves did, with their teeth and claws, the newcomer fought the same way as they did and this began to puzzle Rose.
'Why doesn't he use a knife or soemthing?' Rose thought to herself. Yet it turned out that it didn't matter for the fight soon ended when the newcomer threw one of the wolves against a tree and it let out a loud whimper. The other two held back as the third shailky got up. The other two looked from their commrade to the new comer and with heavy glares, they retreated as thier injured friends tried to keep up with them. Only when the three wolves were gone did Rose let out a sigh of releif.
"Thank you ever so..." Rose started to say but stopped short when the bulky looking man stepped into a shaft of sunlight. It wasn't a man, it was a wolf type creture who stood up like a man. Rose's breath caught in her throat once more and she unconsiously began to take a step back. The wolfman's eyes grew wide as he opened his muzzle, as if to say something and held out a clawed hand towards Rose. The next thing Rose knew, her foot didn't meet solid ground and she felt gravity dragging her down as she let out a shrill scream.
