Chapter Three-once a Rat, always a theif

Thanks to my new beta reader, Jess. Go read her story too!.....um....yah..onwards.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dodge-Rat lay awake in his bed listening to Lyid and Sparz snore happily near by. He was restless and couldn\'t sleep. Here he was, in a town with very little in the ways of guards, and he wasn\'t doing anything remotely wrong! Sivet was the easiest town around for stealing things, everyone was so nice and optimistic, and they never locked their doors or treasures away. It wasn\'t right just staying here.
Sitting up in his bed, he looked over towards where Lyid was sleeping. Lyid, he\'d said not to steal or cause trouble..... But why should he listen to Lyid? He didn\'t even know the male, let alone have reason to do as he said. Lord Marvick said they could do as they please, but they must get the sword and return as quickly as they could. He never said Lyid was boss, and he did say they could do as they please. Right now, what would please Dodge-Rat, was stealing a nice new pair of shoes from a local.
\'Maybe if I give them to Lyid he won\'t be so mad\' Dodge thought, remembering Lyid\'s lack of shoes as he quietly slipped out of bed and started to quietly get dressed. The thought of Lyids reaction to being offered stolen shoes almost made Dodge-Rat laugh out loud. He had a guess at what Lyid\'s reaction would be, and it involved pain and yelling. \'Maybe I\'ll keep them for myself, my ears can only take so much tugging.\'
Once dressed, though without the easily seen, yellow sash he normally wore, Dodge left the room. The inn was quiet and the man at the desk, who was suppose to be awake, was fast asleep in a chair when Dodge walked downstairs from the rented room. \'Lazy butt, someone could come in here and steal from the safe box and he\'d never know\' Dodge thought to himself as he slipped out the door into the night.
Dodge wandered the empty streets for a while, looking over some of the houses and making his wowaroward the edges of the town, where the security was even less. Normally he didn\'t go for easy grabs, but he was a bit lazy as it was, and he didn\'t want to be gone to too long. Lyid was a early riser.
Finally, he reached a house that he considered fit, and jumped the small white fence around the property. Creeping across the lawn and around to the living room window. Peeking through the window, just incase someone was still up, even though the house was light free, he smiled devilishly. \'Easy as stealing candy from a child.\' He mused, going around to the front door. Guessing, correctly, that the door was open, he didn\'t even bother trying to pick the lock, just turned the handle and went inside.
\"You know, it’s not polite to sneak into a persons home?\" Dodge jumped three feet, pulling a dagger out of his pocket and turning around all at once.
Smile plastered on its wolfish features, a over grown red dog sat in the doorway behind Dodge-Rat, its fur moving around as if wind was tugging on it, even though it was a breezeless night. \"Hi to you to.\"
Dodge growled and glared at the creature. \"Trygin!\" He hissed, voice low. \"How in the name of the unholy ones did you get out of your Seal?\" He asked.
Trygin, the wolfish creature, moved towards Dodge. \"I wanted to help you, so I followed you......is that bad, Master?\" The voice echoed softly around the room, even though Trygin didn\'t appear to be speaking.
Dodge sighed. \"No, just..... stay here and be quiet.... and don\'t burn anything.\" Trygin looked indignant, but laid down on the floor while Dodge snuck deeper into the house. He no longer sought just shoe\'s, he wanted a new shirt as well, which meant going inside one of the bedrooms. He was about to open the door to one of the rooms at the end of the hall when a loud, high-pitched squeappedpped through the house.
\'Damn it, what have you gotten into now Trygin\' Dodge thought, running back to the living room. Even as he reached it, another, more angry sounding, noise reached his ears. He wasn\'t sure what was going on, not even when his eyes settled on the scene in front of him, but he kno know that it wasn\'t good.
Trygin was growling, flames licking around his form and eyes glowing yellow, at a tall, human-like man standing in the middle of the room. Blood covered the strangers’ arm, which was lit up by the fire covering Trygin. Dodge blinked, taking in the scene, half aware of the fact that the household was waking up and coming into the room as well.
\"Demon, go, get, Trygin no like you.\" The echoing voice of the fire-dog sounded through the room, accompanied by gasps from the owners of the home.
\"Why should I listen to you, mutt?\" The demon, which, now that he was thinking again, Dodge could tell the man was, replied to Trygin. \"I can kill you and everyone else here easily.\"
\"Oh really?\" Dodge asked, stepping closer to Trygin. \"I don\'t think you can, do you Tray?\" The beast growled a bit more and grinned wolfishly. \"Trygin Fira, show this Demon what you can do.\" He instructed.
In a burst of fire, Trygin lunched itself at the demon; no longer covered in fire, but made completely of flames. The demon hissed and scream as the flames devoured it, causing everyone but Dodge to either faint, or scream as well.
