Becoming Adults
\"Oh God,\" Janese mumbled.
\"I should have known they weren\'t gonna pass this up,\" Jett said, looking out the window. Reporters were practically camped out in front of Wilstead High. When they saw the limo pull up they jumped out their vans and nearly trampled one another to get to the limo.
\"Jett is Silverstone really over?\"
\"Is Janese Aultmon in there with you?\"
\"Do you know if Kayla West is here or not?\" The driver pulled around to the side of the school where security was. The reporters tried to get through but were stopped dead in r trr tracks. The Mackalls and Jacksons piled out of the limo and into the school. Everyone was getting settled in the auditorium. Jett saw J.B. seated in the front and waved.
\"All right, I\'m going up front with the others,\" Jett said. He leaned down to kiss Janese but they were interrupted by a camera flash. \"Get outta here!\" A body guard came up and escorted the reporter outside. Jett looked back at Janese and she kissed him on the nose.
\"Awwww, isn\'t that cute.\"
\"Go inside there and leave them alone,\" Miss Coretta said coldly. Kayla brushed her comment off and strolled up to Janese.
\"May I help you,\" Janese asked, folding her arms. Kayla\'s eyes fell to her braclet and ring.
\"Jett, you didn\'t buy me the full set or ask me to marry you for that matter,\" Kayla sneered.
\"That\'s because he doesn\'t want you,\" Janese spoke up.
\"Whatever,\" Kayla replied with a wave of her hand. \"I just wanted to apologize for that little scene at the restaurant. But I\'m not sorry for trying to win my man back.\"
\"That\'s too bad sweetheart because he\'s mine,\" Janese responded, stepping in Kayla\'s face. Jett stepped in between them once again.
\"Baby, come on she\'s not worth it. You already beat her.\"
\"How\'s that,\" Kayla asked, getting upset.
\"Janese\'s is wearing my ring. Not Kayla.\" Janese turned around and they walked into the auditorium.
\"It ain\'t over yet, bitch,\" Kayla sneered.
\"Go climb a tree,\" Miss Coretta said.

\"Before we begin calling our 2004 graduates. We\'ll have a word from our Valedictorian, Miss Kayla West.\" Some people clapand and others started whispering and pointing. Kayla stepped up to the podium and adjusted the mic.
\"Good morning parents, friends, family, and my fellow graduates of 2004. I would like to read a poem I received from a friend.\" She took a deep breath and started. \"I was blessed with your lips that kissed me so gently. I was blessed with your arms that held me through the days and nights. I was blessed with your eyes that filled me with comfort when I was down. I was blessed with your hands that stroked my face so soothing and gentle. I was blessed with the the time we spent together. The time was so fulfilling and filled with lots of passion and fire. I was blessed with your personality, the way you made me laugh when I wanted to cry. I was blessed with your smile that reflected your inward beauty. I was blessed with you baby, can\'t you see. I\'m still holding on the the memories of what you did to me. You made me smile because I was happy to have you, but you made me cry when you took your love away. You were truly the best thing I had a I let you slip away. Now I know I was truly blessed to have thee.\" Kayla\'s eyes were watery and her nose was red. She locked eyes with Jett and mouthed the words I love you. He shook his head and rolled his eyes. \"This poem is about holding on to the person or the thing you love. Hold on to your dreams, everyone, and don\'t let them go.\" She turned and walked back to her seat. Mr. Dupree stepped to the mic and continued.
\"Thank you Kayla. That was a beautiful poem. Now let\'s go on with our ceremony.\" He began reading off the names and the students walked on the stage and received their diplomas. \"Jett Jackson.\" Jett stood and everyone in the auditorium gave him a standing ovation. He made his way through the crowd and onto the stage. \"Jett you\'ve really made a difference in this tiny town. And we\'re glad that we had the opportunity to have a star among us.\" Mr. Dupree hugged him and slid his diploma under his arm. Jett started to walk off when someone shouted for him to speak, then evee ste started chantting it. Jett went back to the podium.
\"Okay, okay,\" he said. \"I\'ve had the best time of my life here in Wilsted. That\'s the reason I moved here from Cali. I\'m gonna miss everyone when I go off to college. But you\'re all invited to my wedding.\"
\"To Kayla,\" someone in the front shouted. Jett shook his head and nodded towards Je.

\"To that beautiful woman right there.\" Everyone turned around and stared at Janese. She gave a small wave. Jett glanced back at Kayla and the tears started streaming down her face. \"You all will always be my friends. I hope the best for you all.\" Jett walked back to his seat and the graduation ceremony went on.

\"I can\'t believe it,\" Wood said. \"My son has graduated and is going to college.\" They were all back at Miss Coretta\'s house eating a nice lunch.
\"I can\'t believe it either. But I can believe that Silverstone is over. I really was getting tired of it all,\" Jett said. He and Janese were cuddled on the couch.
\"The only thing to do now is get married, have kids, and live happily ever after,\" Jules said.
\"I don\'t know about the kids, I gotta get my edumacation,\" Janese said.
\"I\'m just happy you two are going to college. On time,\" Vickie said. Justin cooed something and everybody laughed.
\"Yea, it would be a good idea to take things slow,\" Jett said, resting his head on Janese. \"I love you.\" She kissed him on the cheek.
\"I love you too.\"
\"Awwwwww!\"
\"All right people,\" Jett said.
\"When will the wedding be held? What season,\" Jules asked, coming over and sitting next to Janese. She shrugged her shoulders and looked at Jett.
\"To tell you the truth I haven\'t had any time,\" Janese answered.
\"Yall been engaged how long?\"
\"A month today.\"
\"Ma, we can hire a wedding planner,\" Jett interrupted.
\"Okay,\" Jules said. \"The hard part is solved. You ladies up for some shopping?\" Vickie jumped up and handed Justin to his father. \"Jett are you coming?\"
\"Nope. Yall ladies can control that,\" he said, spreading across the couch.
\"Baby, can we use to limo,\" Janese asked, using her sexy persuasive voice. Jett looked at her and licked his lips. She pierced her eyes and licked her lips back at him.
\"You can do what ever you want.\"
\"Thank you.\" She leaned over and kissed him. \"Your treat is coming soon,\" she whispered in his ear. The ladies grabbed their purses and left.
