Chapter 28

I cant believe I have over 14000 hits for this story.. and over 200 reviews! Thanks a lot everyone! I really appreciate it! I remember posting the first chapter and thinking that nobody's probably interested in what my twisted mind can cook up XP

The next few chapters will tell you a little bit more about Kevin. I'm currently writing chapter 31 but dont know when I have the chance to update again since a friend is coming for a long visit. It might me as far as the beginning of May until you get another chapter, sorry. I'll try to get one up sooner though!

Hope you like it as always and please keep reviewing!

CHAPTER 28

The next day I woke up in Kevin’s bed again, hugging the towel. Kevin had given me an odd look when he had seen me going to bed with it but hadn’t told me to put it away. He was working morning shift today, he had told me last night, and I knew he was gone by now.

I didn’t get up until late in the afternoon and ventured out of the bedroom. There was a note on the kitchen table telling me to eat something and I opened the fridge hesitantly, gnawing on my lower lip and tried to decide what it would be okay to take. I didn’t want to eat anything too expensive and risk making Kevin angry. I settled for a glass of milk and a piece of dried up bread that had been left on the counter. There was a new loaf next to it but it was untouched, I couldn’t take any of that.

After eating I wondered around the apartment for a while, straightening up magazines on the livingroom table by habit and folding up the blanket Kevin had slept with. I moved to look at the pictures over the fake fire place and frowned when there was one of smiley Kevin with a beautiful young woman and a small boy. They all looked happy and I brushed my fingers over the picture. It wasn’t the same Kevin I knew. The Kevin I knew didn’t smile like that. I picked up the frame to have a closer look and stared at it for a long time, trying to think what could have happened to the lady and boy in the picture.

The front door opened suddenly, making me flinch and drop the picture. I whipped my head around and saw Kevin standing there with some other man. Fear washed over me and I looked down quickly to see the picture frame lying face down on the floor. I grouched down to pick it up and paled when I realized that the glass was broken.

“I-I’m s-sorry. K-Kevin, I’m s-sorry.” I whispered quietly and looked up at the bouncer who had walked across the room by now.

“It’s alright, Jason. Just put it down.” Kevin said and pulled the frame from my hands. He set it on top of the mantle piece face down before taking hold of my shoulder and saying. “There’s someone I want you to meet, take a seat Jason.”

I did what I was told and sat on the big armchair before daring to look up at the men. Kevin had disappeared into the kitchen and the man who had come home with him sat on the couch, studying me carefully. Kevin reappeared with two beers and a soda for me and sat on the armrest of the couch before saying. “Cody, this is Jason. Jason, this is my friend, Cody Thomson. He’s a detective.”

I had been staring at the soda can in my hands like I didn’t know what to do with it and shot my head up when I heard the word detective. No no no.

“Nice to meet you, Jason.” Thomson said and took a sip of his beer. I glanced at Kevin quickly before looking down at my hands that were clutching the soda can tightly. I knew they were both watching me and wanted to curl up and die.

“Jason, I want you to tell Cody what happened.” Kevin said and my shoulders tensed.

“N-No, s-sir.” I mumbled and flinched when Kevin stood up and came to me. He took the can from me and opened it for me before handing it back and lifting my head up by my chin.

“I’m trying to help you, Jason. Let me.” He said in a firm tone and I looked down nervously.

“Just take your time, Jason. I know it’s hard.” Thomson said from the couch and Kevin returned to sit on the armrest. I stared at the now open can in my hands nervously and took a nervous breath before starting to talk quietly. I started out hesitantly and closed my eyes, reliving the past month.

When I finally stopped talking, the room was silent and I was breathing in small anxious pants, my thin shoulders trembling. I heard someone move but didn’t look up until a hand wiped wetness from my cheeks. I brought my own hand up and wiped at my face, surprised. I didn’t know I had been crying. I looked up and saw Kevin standing next to me with a dark face. I think I startled him when I let the soda can drop from my hold with a clonk and bounced him. I wrapped my arms tight around his waist and hid my face against his chest, letting the sobs take over. Kevin stood stiffly for a moment before bringing his arms around me and soothing my hair back.

“Ssh, Jason. Calm down. I know it’s hard to talk about it but you can’t keep it all in.” He said in a hushed voice and I dug my hands in the back of his shirt, violent sobs rocking my body.

“Well damn. He’s more fucked up than I thought. Have you taken him to the hospital yet?” Thomson asked from the couch and I felt Kevin shake his head. I held on tighter and choked on my sobs.

“I d-don’t want to g-go. P-Please, d-don’t make me. P-Please. I’ll be good, I p-promise.” I begged and Kevin rubbed the back of my neck gently.

“To the hospital? Jason, you need to be checked over.”

“I.. I d-don’t like d-doctors.” I hiccupped and let go of Kevin, stepping away. I looked down and saw my untouched soda spilled on the floor. “I’m s-sorry.” I whispered nervously and knelt down to pick up the can. I moved to the kitchen quietly and came back with the kitchen rag. I grouched down to wipe away the spilled over soda and made sure not to look at the two men in the room. My eyes were red and cheeks wet from the tears and I rubbed my face awkwardly with the sleeve of my sweater.

“Why don’t you like doctors, Jason?” Kevin asked when I walked into the livingroom after returning the rag to the kitchen and rinsing it clean. I would have to wipe the floor again later, to make sure it wouldn’t be sticky. I stood by the wall nervously and hung my head forward.

“They.. They hurt me.” I mumbled awkwardly, remembering Doc dad had taken me to after Jonathan had raped me, the doctor at the Cave who had checked me after Jonathan’s other attack and the time Jonathan had taken me to the hospital because of my hurt arm. I frowned when I realized that the only times I had ever needed a doctor in my life was because of something Jonathan had done.

I looked up with a flinch when Kevin stepped to stand in front of me. I hunched and backed away into the wall, wrapping my arms around myself awkwardly. Kevin frowned at my reaction and lifted my head up by my chin.

“You are not going to get hurt, Jason. I promise you, alright? You won’t get hurt.” He said and I bit my lower lip nervously.

“P-Promise?” I asked with a whisper and Kevin smiled sadly at me.

“Yes, I promise.” He said and Thomson stood up slowly.

“Well, I have to get going. I’ll talk to the boss about this and put up a warrant on his dad.” He said and I whipped my head around to stare at him in panic.

“No!”

“Jason, you wanted help. Let us help you.” Kevin said firmly and I looked at him with tears in my eyes again.

“H-He’ll be a-angry. I.. I d-don’t w-want him to be a-angry.” I whispered barely audible and Kevin brushed my tears away.

“Your dad won’t hurt you again, Jason. I won’t let him, Cody won’t let him. You are not going back there.” He said and pulled me into another hug.

“Take him to the hospital, I’ll send an officer to take pictures of his bruises. I’ll come by later to keep you posted on things.” Thomson said from the door and I felt Kevin nod. The detective left and Kevin let go of me.

“Did you eat?” He asked and I nodded quietly. “Good, let’s go then.” Kevin said and went to the hall. He pulled on a jacket before coming back to me with another one. “Here, put this on. It’s a little big but it’ll keep you warm.”

I took the jacket hesitantly and pulled it on before letting Kevin lead me the door.

I stared out of the window while Kevin drove through the busy streets in the late afternoon traffic. I kept my eyes strained on the scenery while fidgeting with the too long sleeves of the jacket I was wearing. It smelled like Kevin and the hem reached the middle of my thighs making me feel even smaller next to the bulking bouncer.

“K-Kevin?” I asked quietly after ten silent minutes and Kevin glanced at me quickly.

“What?”

I bit my lip nervously and made sure not to look at the man. “Are.. are you a c-cop too?” I asked carefully and heard Kevin sigh next to me.

“That’s a long story, Jason. Now it’s not the time.” He said and I hung my head forward. He wasn’t going to tell me.

“I’m s-sorry, sir.” I mumbled and hugged myself awkwardly. Kevin glanced at me again and let out another sigh.

“I was a cop, Jason. I used to work with Cody. But I’m not anymore, alright? It’s a long story, I’ll tell you later.” He said then and I turned to look at him. He was a cop? Or used to be. But..

“W-Why do you w-work at the Cave then?” I asked, perplexed and not sure if I wanted to get an answer to my question.

“I’ll tell you later! Now is not the time!” Kevin snapped at me and I flinched, leaning against the door to get as far away from Kevin as possible.

“I’m s-sorry, sir.” I stuttered quickly and Kevin just grumbled something under his breath. The rest of the ride was spent in heavy silence and when Kevin parked the car outside the hospital, I could barely sit still. I didn’t want to be here. Kevin got out of the car and walked around it to open the door for me. I didn’t move, just sat there with my shoulders hunched and hoped that he would leave me alone.

“Get out of the car, Jason.” Kevin said in a harsh tone all too familiar to me from my time at the Cave and I shook my head quickly. Kevin didn’t tell me again, just grabbed my arm and yanked me out of the car. I bit back the cry of pain and tried to stay on my feet when Kevin marched forward with long strides. Just before the front doors he stopped to give me a chance to catch up and let go of my arm.

“Come on, Jason. Let’s get this over with.” He said, sounding a bit calmer now and I mumbled a barely audible ‘yes, sir’ before stepping inside the dreaded building.

We had to wait for an hour before the doctor called us in. It was a young male doctor and I kept close to Kevin when we walked to the examination room.

“Jason was it? Let’s see then, take a seat on the bed there, please.” The doctor said cheerfully and I obeyed stiffly. “I’m Nick. Could you take off your jacket and shirt, please?” He continued and I shook my head quickly.

“Jason.” Kevin said with a sigh and I looked at him with panicky eyes. We had a staring match which Kevin ended with another sigh before turning his piercing eyes to the doctor. “A word please, doc?”

The men went to the hallway and I hugged my oversized jacket closer, shivering from cold and trying not to cry. I wanted to leave. I wanted to go back to Kevin’s and curl up in his bed with the soft towel. I wanted to go home and fall asleep on my worn down mattress in my ducky PJs.

The door opened again and I jerked my head up. It was Kevin followed by an Asian woman in a white coat.

“Jason, this is Doctor Jihyun.”

“Nice to meet you Jason.” The woman smiled and sat on the little stool with wheels.

“H-Hi.” I whispered and looked at Kevin who gave me a small smile.

The doctor was warming up her stethoscope and smiled at me warmly before asking me to take off my jacket and shirt. I gnawed on my lip nervously and pushed the jacket off my shoulder awkwardly.

“Could you wait outside sir, please?” The doctor asked Kevin who glanced at me with a question in his eyes. I gave him a small nod and he excused himself from the room. I glanced at the doctor who was still smiling at me and pulled off my sweater.

The examination was over quickly and when the doctor gave me permission to get dressed again, I sighed from relief. She hadn’t hurt me, she had actually been really patient with me, not minding my wincing and jumping at every touch.

“Well, you still have a slight fever and you need to start eating more Jason, alright? Other than the fever and more than enough bruises you seem to be fine. Nothing a warm bed and a proper diet won’t fix.” She smiled at me and I nodded again. I hadn’t said a word the whole time, only answering with small nods or shakes of my head. I still didn’t like doctors but had come to the conclusion that she wasn’t that bad. The doctor got up and walked to the door, letting Kevin in. A man in a uniform walked in after him and I tensed up again.

“Jason, take your shirt off. We need to take those pictures.” Kevin said and pulled my shirt over my head himself when I didn’t move. I was breathing heavily and closed my eyes when the officer stepped closer with the camera. “Come on, Jason, sit straight for a moment.” Kevin prodded and pulled my shoulders back. He let go and I saw a flash of light through my closed eyelids.

When the officer had gotten the pictures he wanted, he left and I was allowed to get dressed again. Kevin was speaking with the lady doctor in the hallway and I sat on the bed, waiting until Kevin finally pushed the door open and motioned me to get up.

“Come on Jason, we’re leaving.” He said and set his hand on my shoulder when I went past him to the hallway. We walked to the car in silence and Kevin opened the door for me before going around and settling himself behind the wheel. I expected him to start the car but instead the man sighed and stared out of the window.

“Look, Jason. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you earlier.” He said and I looked at him in confusion.

“W-What?”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m sorry.” Kevin said and turned to look at me.

“I.. It’s o-okay. Y-You d-didn’t hurt m-me.” I said quietly and Kevin gave me a lopsided smile. He looked at me for a while before coughing and reaching to the backseat and pulling out a carrier bag.

“Here, I bought this to you.” He said and pushed the bag at me. I took it hesitantly and opened it. Something white and furry appeared and I pulled out the stuffed toy slowly. I glanced at Kevin and he smiled again.

“So you don’t have to hug the towel. Do you like it?”

I looked at the long eared bunny with long gangly limbs and brushed the soft curly fur with my fingers. “Y-Yeah. T-Thanks.” I said and hugged the toy to my chest. Kevin started the car and I pressed my face against the toy before turning my eyes out of the window and letting out a quiet sigh, feeling happy. I felt safe with Kevin. Most of the time anyway.
