Chapter Twenty-Eight: Emotional Turmoil
“Hee . . . Hee. . . Hooo . . . Hee . . . Hee . . . Hooo.” Leila breathed in and out deeply while rolling back and forth on a giant ball.
"Breathe . . . two . . . three . . . four and relax . . . two . . . three,” Gingie, the Lamaze instructor said walking back and forth waving her hands about. “And breathe...two...three...” Leila was doing birthing exercises while Marc and Gingie watched.
“This is ridiculous.” Leila mumbled bouncing up and down on the ball she threw her hands up in frustration and began wobbling on the ball.
“Whoop.” Leila yelped, Marc reached out to catch her but she still fell, her bottom hitting the floor.
He perched down, besides her helping her back up to her feet. “You all right?” he asked rubbing her back. Leila grumbled scowling at the round object.
“No . . . I am not . . . all right!” she complained.
“Ok, come on, back on the ball.” Gingie said gesturing to said object.
Leila scowled at the older woman “I don’t wanna get on the ball. I fail to see how this is going to help me when I’m in pain?”
she asked as Marc helped her back on the evil rubber ball.
“It takes the pressure off your back, trust me it’s really helpful during labour, honey.” Gingie said walking back and forth in front of Leila. “Come on, Leila, back to your breathing.” Gingie chirped. “And breathe in . . . two . . . three . . . four . . . and relax two . . . three . . . four. . .”
“Hee...Hee...Hooo...Hee...Hee...Hooo.” Leila breathed and frowned when Marc looked like he was trying to not to burst out with laughter.
She stopped rocking on the ball and glared at him, “Are you . . . laughing . . . at me?”
Marc shook his head but his lips curled upwards indicating otherwise. “Oh well, this is just bloody excellent. You cheeky little bugger, you get me pregnant then you have the cheek to laugh at me?” she said snappily.
“I’m sorry, honey. It’s just; you look cute rolling back and forth on that ball with a scowl on your face.”
Leila arched a brow she made a move to stand up from the ball and toppled over again, this time she crashed straight into Marc knocking him back while she handed on him. “Is it just me, or have you become extremely clumsy lately?” Marc groaned looking up
at his girlfriend who was sitting on top of him.
“I haven’t noticed.” She said with a shrug.
Marc smirked. “Right . . . so you haven’t noticed that you spend more time on the floor trying to get up than you actually do
on your feet?” he questioned.
Leila sighed and was about to respond but got interrupted by Gingie’s annoying voice which seemed to be pressing on Leila’s last nerve.
“Oh my, none of that now, please children let’s keep in mind that, that’s the reason you’re in this position to begin with. “ Gingie said scolding Leila and Marc who exchanged looks. “Now I’m not saying intercourse is necessarily a bad thing during the last trimester of pregnancy, it could actually be quite helpful...” she droned on and on.
Marc caught Leila’s annoyed look as she watched the older woman babble on and on about sex and pregnancy.
“Wanna get outta here?” he suggested and Leila looked down at him her eyes lighting up a little.
“Please.” She said quickly scrambling off of Marc so he could stand up and pull her up gently with him. The two made a run for it while Gingie kept rambling, her back turned to them. Well in all fairness Marc did the running while Leila all the while grumbling under breath hobbled after him until they were out of the clinic.
A week later...
Marc sat tapping his fingers on his chair waiting for Leila to come out of the dressing room. Being eight months pregnant she had grown out of all her clothes, so now much to her dismay she had to buy maternity clothes.
“Leil’s are you okay in there?” Marc asked looking at the brown door opposite him.
“Yes...” her tiny voice said through the door, she seemed hesitant.
“What’s wrong, honey?” Marc asked with a frown.
“I look ridiculous.” Came her muffled reply.
“I’m sure that’s not true.” Marc said reassuringly. “Come on out, let me see.”
“No, you’re going to laugh at Me.” she mumbled sulkily.
Marc smiled faintly. “I won’t I promise.” Leila didn’t respond instead she unlocked the door and poked her head out and met her boyfriend’s eyes who nodded encouragingly. She sighed and pushed the door open stepping out and revealing herself. She stood wearing a yellow sundress her pregnant belly prodding in front of her.
Marc glanced at her and smiled. “You look cute, but maybe a different colour?”He suggested. “One that’s not as bright as the sun?”
Leila looked down at herself her lips pursed and turned around disappearing into the changing rooms again. She tried on various other humongous outfits and modelled them one by one for Marc who either nodded his head in approval or grimaced shaking it showing his dislike.
After an hour of shopping for Leila they moved on to shop for baby things. Leila was looking at cots while Marc picked up a nipple enhancer and frowned eyeing the object with confusion. He looked up and saw Leila was watching him with a bewildered expression on her face. He placed the nipple enhancer back and strolled over to her a sheepish smile on his handsome face.
When Leila gave him an incredulous look he merely shrugged. “What, it had a boob on it, I was curious.” Leila rolled her eyes shaking her head.
“Do you have to be such a guy?” she asked placing her hands at her hips while glaring up at him.
Marc smirked. “Would you rather I am a girl?” he asked crossing his arms over his chest while watching her closely.
Leila couldn’t contain her smile, she shook her head and pulled Marc with her over to the mother-to be section of the shop.
Leila was looking at underwear for after the birth. She lifted one of them and grimaced in distaste at the full briefs. “Those are attractive.” Marc drawled eying the granny drawers. “You’re not seriously going to buy those are you?” he asked with a
frown.
Leila looked at the underwear with a matching look on her face and shrugged. “I have too, I can’t wear thongs or g-strings anymore it’s getting uncomfortable.” she said with a pout.
Marc stepped closer to her wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Mm, can’t you just go commando instead?” he asked his breath hot against her neck. “That would be insanely hot.”
Leila closed her eyes a shiver shooting up her spine as he licked and nipped at her neck gently. “Really . . . well then I might just have to consider that.” Leila said tilting her head up and pressing her lips to her boyfriends waiting ones.
“I’m starving; can we please go get something to eat?” Marc mumbled against her lips. Leila smiled nodding she pulled her lips away and met his eyes.
They strolled out of the store wrapped up in each other’s arms only to come to a halt at the entrance when they were greeted with a mass of photographers taking pictures of the lovers and screaming question after question at Leila.
“Leila, when is the baby due?”
“When’s the wedding?”
“Is it true you’re having triplets?”
“Do you know the sex of the baby?”
“What happened to Chase is it his baby?”
Leila groaned cursing under her breath. The photographers began advancing on them and Marc pulled her back and ushered her back
into the store. “Dickheads.” Marc grumbled once they were back in the store and away from the paparazzi.
“Miss Callaway, we have alerted security, they should be here soon to escort you out safely.” The store’s manager said with a
sympathetic smile on her face.
“Thank you.” Both Leila and Marc said in unison. The manager walked away leaving the two alone.
Leila looked up at Marc who was frowning. “Marc, I’m sorry.” She apologised meekly.
Marc looked at her in confusion. “Why are you sorry?” he questioned.
Leila shrugged, “I know this isn’t the type of life you had in mind. I hate dragging you into all this crap.”
Marc smiled and stepped in front of her, his hand coming up to cup her left cheek while lovingly gazing into her eyes. “Don’t be sorry, it’s not like I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I don’t care about any of it as long as I get to be with
you.”
“Are you sure, because it’s always going to be like this, you know.” Leila said placing her hands on his taut chest.
“They’ll get bored soon.” Marc assured her.
Leila shook her head. “Are you kidding, have they gotten bored of trailing my parents? It was only a few months ago they snapped shots of them at the beach a second short of having sex.”
Marc chuckled, “Of course, your parents are legendary Leila, what did you expect? How many forty year olds do you know that are as crazy for each as those two are? They flaunt their love proudly, I admire them for that. They’re not ashamed to show their affection for one another, whether at home or even in public.”
Leila smiled. “And you don’t think the same is expected from their kids?” Leila asked as they began walking to the entrance again. Security guards held back the photographers keeping them away from Leila and Marc. “People seem to think we were born with love in our genes.”
Marc grinned roguishly a glint in his eyes. “Well, if that’s the case, why don’t we give them something to talk about? I mean if you keep hiding and running away it will only hearten them further.”
“What do you suggest we do then?” Leila asked uncertainly.
“Give them what they want by doing what your parents do best. We show them we don’t give a shit, we have nothing to hide so why run away, right?”
Leila smiled shaking her head. “Okay Romeo, let’s go.” She said taking his hand and ushering out of the store. Flash after flash blinded the couple for a few seconds until their eyes adjusted. Marc and Leila shared a look and grinned at each other before Marc leaned forward and captured her lips kissing her passionately ignoring the clicking of the camera’s and questions being thrown at them.
Six security guards came rushing through the crowd, three of them holding back the paparazzi while the other three fought to make a clear way for Leila and Marc to get away unharmed.
However, as the other bystanders caught on with the fuss that was going on a huge crowd formed around the two trapping them in the centre.
“Leila, I love you!” the people around her screamed trying to get to thorough the security guards who tried to restrain them.
“Miss Callaway, I can get you an opening to get through but it’s gotta be quick. You think you run?” One of the security guards said his eyes darting around the crowds.
Leila shook her head. “Do I look as though I can run?” she asked sarcastically. The security guard looked at her bump and smiled sheepishly.
“Right a little too far gone for that, huh?” Leila arched a brow at him not amused.
“Clear the way I’ll get her through.” Marc said and instantly swept Leila into his arms. The crowd around them roared loudly.
“Okay, there are four other guards waiting for you once you’re out to escort you to your car. You gotta hurry because we can’t contain this crowd for long.” Marc nodded.
The security guard nodded to the others and after a few minutes of struggle they made a small getaway for the couple. Marc hurriedly took off ducking under arms and hands that were being held out to them.
“Jesus, those people are psychotic.” Marc muttered once they made it through and met up with the other four security guards who began escorting them towards the exit of the mall.
Once outside Leila and Marc quickly made it to the car and drove off as quickly as they could before the paparazzi followed them.

Leila sat on the floor on a sunny Wednesday afternoon trying to put together a baby-swing but failing miserably. She looked
down at the instruction booklet and looked up at the swing which was put together completely different than the one shown on
the user’s guide.
She arched a brow and picked up a piece from beside her and eyed it sceptically before looking at the swing again. She tried pushing the seat with one finger and the entire thing collapsed on the floor. Leila jumped back gaping at the heap on the floor. She growled and used the metal in her hand and began hitting the swing in frustration.
“Stupid, ass-wipe of a swing!” she grumbled throwing the metal down and flopping down on her back with a defeated sigh.
“Halloo?” a familiar voice called out from the front door. Leila heard footsteps and Chase’s head popped in and he frowned when he stepped into the living room and saw Leila lying on the floor looking up at him.
“What are you doing, sweets?” he asked looking down at his best friend who was scowling.
“Sulking at my lack of DIY skills.” She mumbled gesturing to the heap on the floor beside her feet. “It was supposed to be a
swing.”
Chase chuckled and perched down beside her and picked the instruction manual and flipped through it. “Leila, you built it backwards, you do know that right?” he asked his lips twitching.
Leila shook her head with a pout her blue eyes wide. “Why are you doing this anyway, where’s Marc?” Chase asked after a beat.
“At work, he’s been putting everything together all by himself, so I thought I would help him but clearly I overestimated my DIY skills. Because you know I suck. I feel so damn useless, Chase.” she said trying to sit up but held out her hand for help when she struggled. “Marc’s been so tired lately, I feel so bad because he comes from work and he’s either putting furniture together or running around after me.”
“Why didn’t you call me?” he asked.
Leila shrugged, “I didn’t want to bother you.”
Chase arched a brow, “Bother? Leila how many times do I have to tell you, if you need me I’m just a phone call away? You shouldn’t be doing all this, especially on your own you’re ready to pop for fucks sake.”
“Don’t yell at me Chase.”
“I’m not yelling at you Leila, why do have to be so damn stubborn, it’s okay to ask for help.”
“I’m not an invalid, I can do stuff on my own I don’t need a damn babysitter.” She said with a scowl.
“Could have fooled me.” Chase grumbled quietly.
Leila’s scowl deepened. “I heard that.”
Chase looked at her for a long moment before they both broke out into a grin. He shook his head at her his grin still in place. “Come on, let’s get this done.”
An hour later...
“Where the hell are you...aha!” Leila was rummaging through the refrigerator and grinned when she found Marc’s hidden redbull
stash. She was banned from drinking anything that contained caffeine, so redbull was a definite no.
She popped the tab quietly and closed her eyes while bring the cool can of delicious drink to her lips. Just as was about to take a gulp the can was snatched away from her fingers.
Her eyes snapped open and she found Marc standing in front of her a less than pleased look on his face. She smiled guiltily widening her blue eyes to look as innocent as possible but sighed in defeat when Marc only arched his brow and took a gulp from the drink.
“I hate you.” she mumbled crinkling her nose at him. Marc took a step closer to her his eyes looking into hers deeply as he did so.
“Do you now?” he said taking another step causing Leila to press into the counter behind her. “I bet I can change that.” He whispered huskily pressing himself into her gently not putting any pressure on her bump.
Leila watched him closely her eyes ablaze with desire. She gasped when Marc’s lips were at her neck sucking and licking her leisurely. She felt a jolt of arousal shoot straight through her entire being as she burned with a vast amount of lust.
Marc trailed his fingers up her smooth legs and left them lingering at the border of her shorts. His lips found hers and he kissed her thoroughly giving her a second hand taste of redbull. “Marc.” Leila moaned quietly biting down on her bottom lip to keep quiet. Chase and Violet were directly in the next room.
Marc slid his hand into her shorts causing Leila to gasp loudly, he grinned against her cheek. “No underwear, that’s fetching.” He whispered hoarsely bruising his lips with hers once more, tasting every inch of her sweet mouth.
Leila moaned when he began rubbing her clit slowly, “Marc, Chase and Violet are in the next room, they might hear.” She mumbled.
Marc smiled sexily. “Then you’ll have to be quiet, wont you?” he said and looked into her eyes as he slid a finger into her burning core. “You’re so wet, baby.” He whispered, his lips trailing light kisses up to her ear.
Leila only moaned in response, her hands grasping the edge of the counter so tight her knuckles turned white. Marc continued steadily slipping his fingers in and out of enjoying every second of feeling her quiver and shudder against him. She was close
to her climax, he could tell because she began panting heavily and her muscles tensed.
“Marc, please...” Leila pleaded desperately. She was so close to releasing her orgasm, it was there waiting to erupt but Marc was teasing her relentlessly.
“You know what you have to do, baby.” He whispered in a hushed tone in to her ear sending masses of tingles down her spine.
“Baby.” She moaned her hand coming up to his shoulder and grasping it tightly.
“Say it...” he goaded her pushing his finger deeper before pulling it out again.
“I love you, please, baby I can’t take anymore.” She whimpered arching herself into him further.
Marc grinned and thrust his fingers into her once more rubbing her g-spot until he felt her muscles clamp down on his fingers.
“Marc...” she gasped panting frantically as the familiar hot feeling shot through her at lightning speed. The intensity of her orgasm caused her head to spin disorienting her momentarily as she relished the heavenly feeling of release. Marc had to kiss her hard to silence her as she came. Leila was never one to be quiet. He was sure their neighbours heard her screaming many times during the night. That thought only turned him on more though so he wasn’t complaining.
“Shit.” Leila mumbled her head falling lazily on her boyfriends muscular shoulders. She felt Marc chuckle his shoulder shaking slightly as did so.
“Feel better?” he asked kissing her bare shoulder lightly. Leila made a noise indicating that she did feel better.
“Do you think they heard?” Leila asked lifting her head to look up at him. Marc pursed his lips and shrugged.
“I dunno who cares. I don’t think they even noticed we’ve been gone.” He chuckled when Leila frowned. “When I left they were pretty much undressing each other with their eyes. Those two really need to have sex already, the sexual tension between them is excruciating.” Marc said slipping his hand out from inside her shorts.
Leila watched him closely as he lifted his fingers and licked them, “Like ours is any better.” She mumbled causing Marc to smile sexily back at her.
“True, but at least we’re getting each other off. I doubt they’re even doing that.”
“Really, they’ve been dating for a few months now, I didn’t think Violet was the prudish type?” Leila asked.
“She’s not; I’m just as surprised as you are. They’re probably trying to connect without the sex, see if there’s anything there worth pursuing.”Marc explained gazing into Leila’s eyes.
Leila brought her hand up to his face and traced his lips with the pads of her fingers. “Can I ask you something?” she said
“Sure.” He said listening curiously.
Leila looked hesitant for moment before she spoke in a gentle tone. “What was the deal with you and Violet?” she asked carefully watching his reaction.
Marc frowned, “What do you mean by ‘deal’?”
“I mean how the two of you came about, you know sleeping together?” Leila asked looking up at him.
Marc scratched his chin thoughtfully. “Um well, we met back in college, we shared mutual friends. My friend Jason and her best
friend Cecile were dating, so we kind of just met through them. We all began hanging out together, going to clubs, concerts, and dinners. Over a period of time we grew quite close and started doing things without Jason and Cecile, I had a crush on her for a while and Jason told me she liked me too so one day I asked her out on date.” Marc explained and Leila nodded listening silently.
“It was your typical dinner and a movie kind of date. It was pretty great we ended up having a lot of fun together, until of course the end of the date. I walked her back to her dorm room and we stood in front of her door for a few minutes.” Leila smiled faintly.
“She was waiting for the goodnight kiss?” Leila asked and Marc nodded.
“Yeah, so I smiled and leaned forward to plant one on her. Our lips met but it felt really awkward, kind of like I was kissing a sister. I pulled back and we looked at each other she had the same expression as did. Violet suggested that we try again and we did, but again it didn’t get further than a peck on the lips before we pulled back with sour expressions.”Leila looked surprised.
“Really, so how did the two of you sleep together if you couldn’t even stomach kissing?” Leila questioned curiously.
Marc inhaled deeply before answering. “Well, after that night we decided to just keep things as they were, stay friends. It was all good for a little while until this sexual tension began building up between us. We couldn’t spend more than five minutes in the same room without feeling frustrated around each other. So one night were invited to one of the frat houses for a party. If anyone knew how to throw a wild party it was those frat boys. So we all went, we drank a lot and I was pretty much on cloud nine by midnight. Violet had more than a few drinks herself so she was brasher than her usual shy self. We somehow ended up dancing together throughout most of the night. I’m not exactly clear on how things happened from there because somehow we ended
up in bed together.” Leila nodded.
“The next morning wasn’t as awkward as we thought it would be. Obviously it was weird at first but once we talked about what happened we decided to blame it all on the alcohol and leave it at that. A few days passed by and even though we slept together we still had that tension between us and our friends noticed and were sick of it. So everything between us happened from there, we began casually seeing each other, we weren’t dating because it felt too weird, we decided to be bed buddies and sleep together whenever and wherever no questions, no strings.” Marc explained trailing his fingers up and down Leila’s arms.
“So you guys never dated?” Marc shook his head.
“No, there was nothing there beyond the sexual chemistry, just friendly feelings, nothing romantic.”
“So up until before you and I got together you guys continued to sleep together?” Marc nodded. “And it really worked?” she asked and watched as Marc nodded again.
“Yeah, I mean it’s not as though we slept together every day, if one of us were having a bad day or was extremely frustrated we just helped each other out. It worked so we didn’t question it.” He shrugged.
Leila pursed her lips thoughtfully while nodding. “And now, is there any sexual chemistry left between the two of you?” Marc smirked.
“Are you concerned, honey?” he asked in a playful tone. Leila shook her head.
“No, I was just curious.” She said shrugging.
“The sexual chemistry between Violet and I died the day I set my eyes on you. If I liked Violet back in college I was infatuated with you the moment I saw you. I was too busy lusting after you to even think about any kind of sexual relationship with Violet. Even when we slept together it was you I would think of, you have no idea how much you effected me. The way the walk, the way smile, the way you laugh it was all driving me crazy.” Marc said cupping her face gently.
Leila blushed and was about to say something when she frowned and looked down at her stomach. Marc followed her gaze and stepped back from the pool of water around them. “Wha . . . did you just . . .pee?” Marc mumbled and Leila shook her head her blue eyes wide.
“I-I think my water just broke.” she said her face showing her panic.
Marc’s violet eyes widened and his jaw dropped. “But....but....but you’re not due for another three weeks!” Marc said quickly.
Leila’s eyes filled with tears. “Marc, what if something’s wrong?” she began to panic.
“No, come on baby I’m sure everything’s fine. What are we going to do?” he asked quickly.
Leila winced. “I don’t know, but whatever it is...do it fast because I’m having contractions.” She said
“WHAT?!” Marc yelped alarmed.
“Oh god, I can’t do this. I don’t wanna do this. Marc please I can’t have this baby....NOT YET!” Leila cried and began pacing the room frantically.
“What do you want me to do, Leila?” he asked pacing himself.
“I don’t know . . .I don’t know I haven’t done this before. Oh!” Leila yelped holding her bump.
“What the hell is going on, why are you two yelling?” Chase asked when he stepped into the kitchen followed closely by a flushed Violet.
“Leila’s in labour!” Marc shrieked.
“WHAT!” Chase yelled looking at Leila who looked as though she was hyperventilating. “But you’re not due yet, YOU’RE EARLY!”
Violet rushed over to Leila who was pacing the kitchen. “Leila, breathe, honey breathe...”
“What the hell are we going to do?” Chase asked Marc who was pacing the kitchen frantically after Leila.
“I don’t know I don’t... Jesus Christ I’m going to be Dad.”
“Oh my God, I can’t do this, Violet, please make it stop, the baby’s early...I’m not ready.”Leila sniffled. “Somebody get my mom,”
“Chase, call her family. Leila we need to get you into a warm bath, if this is in fact labour it will strengthen your contractions. Don’t panic okay, just remember your breathing.” Violet said pulling Leila’s hair out of her eyes. “Marc you call the hospital and tell them her membranes have ruptured. They should tell you what to do next.” Marc nodded and rushed out of the kitchen.
“How do you all of this?” Leila asked.
“My sister has three kids; I’ve been around a few births. I also watch the discovery channel a lot so...”Leila shot her a weird look and Violet shrugged.
Chase came running back in the kitchen “You’re family are on their way, your mother began crying on the phone, just giving you a heads up.”
A few minutes later Marc came rushing in. “Okay...okay, Leila the midwife said you need to take a warm bath, we need to time your contractions and you need to stay as relaxed as possible. She said to stay home until you feel the pain is unbearable.”
Leila shot him a dark look. “She said what? You mean it’s gonna get worse?” she asked fear etched in her voice.
Violet gently massaged her back until Marc came and took over. “Afraid so,” she said sympathetically.
Leila groaned and leaned forward when another contraction began creeping up on her. She tightened her fingers around Marc’s and whimpered. “Oh, oh ohhhhh!”
“Breathe hee...hee...hooo...heee...heee...hooo.” Marc said and looked over to Violet and Chase. “I think I’m gonna be sick.” He said and winced when Violet slapped him across the face. “Ow.”
“Pay attention to her.” she scolded him.
A little while later there was a pounding on the front door. Chase went to answer it with a scowl on his face ready to pummel
whoever it was that was making such a racket. He yanked the door open and came face to face with Jordan and a tearful Isabelle. “Where is she?” they asked in unison.
“Kitchen.” Chase muttered and watched as Isabelle and Jordan rushed in.
“Leila, come on baby you have to breathe...”Marc said soothingly while rubbing her back.
“Leila?” Isabelle said rushing over to her daughter followed by her husband.
Leila looked up at her mother, “Mom, thank God.” She whimpered.
Isabelle perched down beside her daughter, “How you holding up honey?” she asked rubbing her lower back as Marc was doing before.
“Cramping a little, not too bad so far.” She said once her contraction died down.
Isabelle nodded. “Okay good, we still have time. Come on let’s get you into a warm bath, it’ll help you relax.” Leila nodded and after a little struggle and with Marc’s help she stood up and waddled her way up the stairs.
An hour later...
“Marc, you piece of shiiiiiiiiit, I hate you, you bastard!” Leila screamed panting heavily while they walked over to the front desk of the hospital.
Marc looked at her his Violet eyes wide. Jordan noticed the hurt expression in his eyes and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. “Don’t take it to heart, Marc. She’ in way too much pain to even know what she’s saying. Isabelle called me every name under sun when she gave birth to Jaiden. Women in labour...phew.” he made a face and Marc looked at Leila with concern.
Once they checked Leila in Marc and Isabelle went in with her while Jordan, Violet, Jaiden, Dayne and Chase waited down the hall in the family room.
Leila leaned forward on the bed tears streaming down her cheeks. “Oh god, I can’t do this, it hurts...please just make it stop.” She cried.
Leila’s midwife walked in wearing blue scrubs. “Leila, how are you holding up sweetie?” she asked smiling and Leila shot her a dark look.
“Oh I’m great, just bloody fantastic.” She spat and groaned taking hold of Marc’s hand who spoke quietly to encouraging her to breathe through her contractions. “Oh...God...”
Isabelle massaged Leila’s back taking a little pressure off, “Leila, breathe through it honey. Don’t tense up it’ll will only feel more painful just push the pain downwards.” Isabelle said pulling her hair back. Leila did as she was told breathing in through her nose and out of her mouth.
“Good honey, you’re doing so great, baby. It’ll be over soon and we’ll have our baby.” Marc said wiping away her tears.
Leila shook her head, “I can’t Marc I can’t take anymore.” She sobbed resting her head against his shoulder.
“Leila is it okay if I examine you?” the midwife asked, Leila nodded slowly settling herself on the bed. “Okay, I’m gonna check how many centimetres you’re dilated. Bring your feet together and drop your knees for me sweetheart. Just relax for me okay?” Leila nodded closing her eyes when another contraction began. The midwife placed a hand on her bump feeling the strength of her contractions. Leila threw her head back and whimpered loudly while squeezing Marc’s hand to almost breaking point.
She relaxed a moment later and the midwife moistened her fingers with jelly, “Okay, this may feel a little cold and uncomfortable but try to keep still for me.” She said and pushed her fingers in to Leila who whimpered in response however it was all in pain unlike hours before when Marc had done it. “You’re six centimetres dilated, and about seventy percent effaced. It’s still going to be a little while but the good news is you can use pain relief now. Do you have any idea which method you would like?” she asked and Leila nodded.
“I don’t know, I was thinking about the epidural but I never made up my mind.” She said and the midwife nodded.
“Well, it seems like you’re dilating two centimetres about every forty five minutes. So you seem to be progressing really well. The epidural is great for pain relief but its known to slow down labour; I personally think you should go with the gas and air if you want this over and done with quickly. But the choice is yours.”
“Mom?” Leila asked.
Isabelle smiled, “I think she’s right, I used gas and air with both you and your brother and it was really helpful. But if you feel like it’s too much and you need to rest go for the epidural.” She advised her.
“Okay, I’ll go for the gas.” She said and tensed once again. “Just please, hurry.”
Moments later the midwife came back in and hooked up the gas and air for Leila. She handed her the nozzle and Leila looked at her with tired blue eyes. “What the hell am I supposed to do with that, sing in to it?”
“No honey, its gas and air you suck it through your mouth as deep as you can and exhale through your nose.” Isabelle instructed her. Leila snatched the nozzle and quickly sucked in a gulp of it. Her head spun and for a moment she though she died and was up in heaven. The pain stopped and her head felt light as air.
Suddenly out of nowhere she began giggling hysterically. Marc frowned when he saw his girlfriend who was crying moments ago laughing her head off. “Why is she laughing, what’s wrong with her?” Marc asked stepping beside Leila who was sucking the gas and laughing.
Isabelle chuckled shaking her head. “Its laughing gas, it has that affect for the first ten minutes. That shit is magical.” Isabelle explained and Marc smiled when Leila looked up at him cross eyed way to high to focus completely.
“He he he, Marc this is good shit, you gotta try this. Ha ha ha.” She said thrusting the nozzle at him.
Marc looked at Isabelle uncertain she just shrugged. “Go ahead; Jordan was higher than I was on that stuff when I was in labour with Jaiden. It’s harmless.” She assured him. Marc nodded and placed the nozzle to his lips and inhaled deeply.
“Whoa.” He mumbled when his head got all fuzzy. His violet eyes met Leila's and he burst out laughing with her. He went to take another pull when Leila snatched it away from him.
“Mine.” She said and began inhaling again. Marc went to sit down on his chair beside Leila‘s bed which he completely missed and fell back on the floor with a dull thump. Leila and Isabelle both began laughing uncontrollably. Leila of course began one of her geeky laughs which sounded something like...
Ha-ha-hic-ha-hic- ha-ha-hic-ha-ha-hic-ha!
The drugs seemed to have worn off Marc because he looked at Leila with a bewildered expression on his handsome face. “Oh my God...” Marc muttered looking up at his girlfriend cackling. “Tell me I’m hearing things.”
Isabelle chuckled. “Wow, I haven’t heard her laugh like that since she was eight. I thought she might have grown out of it, guess I was wrong.” She admitted running slender fingers through Leila’s hair she seemingly calmed a little.
Marc chuckled and pulled himself up on the chair shaking his head at Leila who began growling in pain once again when the
laughing gas wore off. She inhaled furiously at the nozzle every few seconds and stopped when he pain vanished only to repeat the process all over again.
“Marc...” Leila whimpered beads of sweat forming on her forehead from the intensity of her contractions.
Marc leaned forward taking her hand in his. “Yes baby?”
Tears began trailing down her cheeks, “I can’t take anymore, I’m going to split in two please just make it stop....Oh god!” She screamed gripping Marc’s hand tightly.
“Baby, I wish I could take away all your pain, but I can’t honey. Just try to focus on the idea of meeting our baby, it will be over real soon honey you’re doing so well.”
Leila shook her head. “No I can’t, I can’t, I don’t want too. I’m going to be a terrible mother, I know it.” She sobbed.
Isabelle and Marc exchanged looks. Isabelle stood up and placed a cool cloth on Leila’s forehead. “Leila, what are you talking about, you’re going to be an amazing mother. I know you’re scared honey, it’s completely natural.” Isabelle explained wiping her face gently.
“I don’t know how to be a mom. I killed Twinkie in three days, how am I going to take care of a baby?”
“Honey, Twinkie was a hamster and you were ten years old. You’re strong and wise; I don’t have a single doubt in my mind. You are going to be the greatest mother out there, you’re going to love this child more than anything in this world, and it going to adore you too honey. I had no idea what I was doing when I had you, I was completely alone, but I took each day as it came and eventually it got easier. Once you see your sweet little baby’s face, your maternal instincts will kick in and you’re going to want to protect it from everything. Trust me.” Isabelle explained.
“You’re mothers right, Leil’s. You were the one that told me we could get through this together, remember?” Leila nodded.
“You have tons of people that love you, and we are right here to help you. You’re not alone, honey.” Isabelle said kissing Leila’s head.
Leila nodded and cried out when another contraction shot through her, this time she began straining and pushing. Isabelle shot up alarmed.
“Leila, don’t push.” She said in a panic.
Leila let out an ear piercing screaming which echoed throughout the entire floor. “Honey stop, what is she doing?” Marc asked.
“Get a doctor NOW!”Marc shot out of the room so fast Isabelle didn’t even see him get up.
“Leila, listen to me, you have stop pushing the baby isn’t ready yet. I know it’s hard but you have to try just breath through it baby.”
Three doctors came rushing in followed closely by Marc. “Alright Leila, I’m going to examine you real quick okay.” Leila didn’t hear a word she was saying she was too busy growling through the pain.
The midwife pushed fingers into Leila and frowned. “Nine centimetres, almost there.” The midwife said and looked down at Leila. She began screaming once again and pushing the pain away, she was straining so hard her face turned red. “Leila, you have to stop pushing, the baby doesn’t have enough room to get out yet sweetie. You’re going to tears yourself beyond repair if you continue.”
“Leila, come on please, I know you can do this, just listen to them baby, I don’t want you hurting yourself. If it hurts so bad
just tear me apart if you have to just don’t push.”
“Marc, please...I need Chase...get me Chase. Oh Gooood help me pleeeease!” Marc kissed her temple and rushed out of the room
down the corridor where Chase, Violet and rest of Leila’s family were sitting or pacing.
Leila’s screaming could be heard from where they were. Marc ran in to the family room panting. “Marc what the hell is going on, why is she screaming like that?” Jordan asked a concerned look in his eyes.
Marc shook his head. “She having a tough time fighting the urge to push, she’s nine centimetres gone but she won’t stop pushing, the doctors are trying to get her to calm down and co-operate but she’s isn’t listening. They said if she continues she’s going to tear herself beyond repair. Chase she want you.”
Marc explained his eyes fell on Chase who frowned. “Really?” he asked and Marc nodded. Chase nodded slowly gulping. They both hurried down the hall where Chase got dressed in scrubs.
Back in the room Leila was crying while the doctors were trying to fit an IV into her hand to reduce the amount of bleeding, as she was anaemic throughout her pregnancy. Marc and Chase entered the room rushing over to Leila’s side.
Chase went to stand beside Leila gently taking her hand into hers and kissing it. “Chase...” Leila whimpered looking up at him through her tear filled eyes.
“Yes, sweets I’m right here. You’re looking mighty flustered there babe.” He joked earning himself a pain filled smile from Leila.
“I hate you.” She said through gritted teeth. “Oh God, Chase please help me, no one’s doing anything, they’re just yelling at Me.” she cried.
“No one’s yelling at you, honey. We all want what’s best for you and from what Marc tells me you’ve been putting up a little bit of a fight.”
“You would too if you have people shoving their fingers inside you every minute.” She growled throwing the midwife a nasty look. “I hate men; I am never having sex AGAIN!”
Chase chuckled lightly, “Really, you were humming a different tune back at the house a few hours ago.” Chase said and shot Marc a look whose eyes widened.
“Whose side are you on?” Leila asked sourly.
Chase grinned. “Honey it’s in my nature to defend my own kind.”
“Screw your nature.” Leila threw back at him. “Get me some drugs, these asshole won’t give me anything, you have to take this pain away. YOU HAVE TO!” she shrieked.
Chase smirked. “Leila, you’re ready sweetie, you can being pushing now.”
“Hear that, you’re about to become Mom.” Chase said moving aside to make room for Marc who took his place.
Leila frowned when Chase moved away. “Where are you going, please don’t leave me, I need you, you promised you would never
leave me....” Leila cried.
Chase shook his head. “I’m not going anywhere, I’m right here and I always will be.” Chase promised her. Leila nodded taking hold of both Marc and Chase’s hands.
Isabelle stood beside her stroking her legs and watching as her grandchild coming into the world. “Leila, I can see a head of dark hair.” She said and Leila looked up.
“Really?” She squealed and Isabelle nodded.
Chase chuckled. “What were you expecting a blond?” Leila growled at him clamping her fingers down around his causing him to yelp.
Marc kissed Leila on the temple. “Come on baby, this is it. We’re finally going to meet our baby. You can do this; you are the strongest person I know.” Marc said comfortingly.
Leila screamed as a pain even more intense racked through her body. She began pushing down into the pain teeth gritted fingers so tightly gripping Chase and Marc she was sure she broke them.
“Come on push, push, push.” The doctor encouraged her. Leila fell back into Marc’s arms when the contraction ebbed away. “Okay,
take a quick break.”
Leila looked up at Marc, “I’m so sorry I’ve been such a bitch to you, god this really hurts.” She cried and Marc smiled his own eyes filled tears.
“Don’t ever apologise. I understand and I promise I will make this up to you every day for the rest of our lives.” She swore and Leila sobbed.
“Alrighty, Leila another contraction is on the way, try to hold on this for longer okay?”The doctor said and kept Leila’s legs firmly apart.
Leila nodded and pushed her chin into her chest and pushed with everything she had, she felt herself stretching her core stinging like a bitch. “OWWWW!!” she screamed when the head popped out.
“Oh my god, the head is out!” Isabelle said rubbing Leila’s legs. Marc rushed over to take a look and his eyes widened.
“Oh my god!” he yelped with a grimace. “Leila, how the hell are you doing this?” he asked staring at the baby’s tiny head.
“Not helping...” Leila growled through gritted teeth.
“Leila this is it, one last push and your baby will be out. Make it a big one...”
“I can’t, god I feel like I’m dying. Please just stop I can’t do it anymoreeee!” she cried and began pushing not being able to
fight the urge when it came. A minute later Leila sighed dropping her head back when the baby slipped out and the pain disappeared. A shrill cry of the baby echoed throughout the floor.
“It’s a beautiful baby girl!”
