A Whole Bunch of Talk
Kyle’s eyes widened. His twin brother had been hurt like that? The image came to his mind: his brother being scared, Eric being held down and forcibly taken. Kyle closed his horror stricken eyes with grief. Just then, the thought of what Eric did to him came to his mind, and his horror turned into seething anger.
“You were hurt!! To make it better you decided to hurt me the same way? Did that make you feel better somehow?”
Eric’s eyes were downcast. He actually looked remorseful. “At first, I did not mean to ever do to you what Jake did to me?”
Kyle could feel the guilt radiating off Eric, but he was not letting his guard down just yet. “Then why did you?”
Eric was silent.
“Answer me.”
“I had begun to develop feelings that were very inappropriate for you. I had never met to act on them though. When I noticed guys flirting with you since you came out, I got insanely jealous. I did not want anyone else to even touch you. I guess I decided that if I couldn’t have you willingly, I’d have you unwillingly; thus, in turn would make you not want any of those other guys.”
Kyle blinked. “What kind of warped thinking is that? First of all, I never even noticed guys flirting with me. Second of all, you raped me because you lusted after me?”
Eric’s eyes flashed. “It wasn’t lust. It was love.”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “You have a funny way of showing it. You made me want to get away from you. That’s all you did.”
“I love you.”
Kyle shook his head. “I don’t believe you. If you truly cared about me, you wouldn’t have hurt me for two years.”
Just then, Kyle’s cell phone rang. He glanced at the number, and groaned. He flipped it open and a sighed a ‘hello’.
“Where the hell are you?” Alex’s angry voice screamed.
Kyle feigned ignorance. “What do you mean? I’m at the apartment.”
“Don’t lie. I forgot my wallet and had to go back. Did you go to the school to talk to Eric?”
“No.”
“Then tell me where you are.”
“I went for a walk.”
“Where to?”
“Umm...”
Alex breathed heavily, trying to suppress his rage. “’Umm’ is not an answer. I’m going to ask you again. Are you at the school?”
Kyle looked at Eric’s guilt-ridden face, and for once in two years, believed Eric’s words from earlier. He spoke into the phone. “I did what I thought was best. I needed to talk to my brother. I’m fine though. Please, let me do what I want.”
Alex wasn’t having that. “You disobeyed my orders. Now, get your butt back here.”
Kyle shook his head. Then, he remembered that Alex could not see him. “I’m sorry Alex. I can’t do that. Good-bye.”
“Don’t hang...” Kyle’s cell phone was closed.
“Your master a little upset?” Eric sneered.
“Watch your mouth.”
Eric’s face was hardened again. “Don’t forget who you are talking to.”
Kyle shook his head. “I’m not scared of you anymore. Inside you are just a scared kid, desperately wanting someone to care. I suggest you get help, maybe go to a therapist.” Kyle happened to look up and see Alex come through a door. “I’ve got to go.” He walked away without give Eric a chance to respond.
Eric watched Alex grab hold of Kyle, and his eyes soften from their angry slits. He hugged Alex as he glanced up at Eric. Alex straightened, and led Alex out of the door.
Darren, who had overheard the heard exchange, but chose to stay out of it unless Alex needed help, came to stand by Eric. “I know what it feels like to love someone you know you can never have. You decided to take what you wanted forcibly. I tried to distance myself by making his life miserable.”
Eric glanced at the soft-spoken boy. “You’re in love with Kyle?”
Darren nodded sadly.
“How can you just stand by and let your brother have him?”
Darren laughed. “It’s kind of ironic really. Sometimes if you love someone or something, you need to let it go. I love Kyle. I know Alex truly cares about Kyle and vice versa for Kyle’s part. I had originally tried to keep them away from each other, bur I had come to realize that my brother was the best thing for Kyle. If you love someone, you want what’s best for him.”
Darren left Eric with those thoughts.
