~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keir walked along the hall an oil lamp in hand. He opened the door and slipped in as he sat the lamp on the night stand the bathroom door opened. Rune was in one of Keir’s black button up shirts and shorts; he looked over as light filled the room. “There.”
Walking over he looked at it. “Your mom is weird. She can use a shotgun, has oil lamps, and can cook homemade meals that make your mouth water.”
“She used to live in the middle of nowhere while growing up.”
“Oh.” He looked at him, “It must be cool having grandparents you can visit.”
“We don’t mom and grandma have been on a war path since dad came into the picture.”
The small male smiled and looked at him. “Well you have a nice mom. I wish my mom would have praised me just once.” He could see the reflection of the flame in his purple eyes. “I don’t care how mean they were to me I’ll protect them, because you should never turn your back on your family.”
Keir smiled and grabbed his hand. They moved over to the bed and he sat down, pulling Rune into his lap. He watched as Rune leaned over and grabbed the stuffed cat. That small body pushed against him and sighed. “What is it?”
“You always protect me, what if something happened to you?”
“I won’t let that happen.”
“Well I’d like to protect you too, if I could fight.”
“Then don’t worry about it.”
He could feel the cold metal of the whistle against his chest. “But... what if something like in the alleyway happens again?”
Keir sighed, “Okay you can help me.”
“I’ll try my best!”
The floppy cat was held in his hands and Keir looked up. “Rune…” There was banging on the door, they both looked up and then a howl was heard. “Get in the closet.”
“Wh…”
“Now.” He ran to the closet and closed the door a little. Looking out the crack he watched as Keir unlocked the door and looked out. “I know your there.”
Rune watched as something was sprayed in Keir’s face and he stumbled back coughing and rubbing at his eyes. Two men walked in and grabbed Keir, they tied him up as another walked in. This man was searching the room. Quickly he pushed the wall panel to the side and climbed in closing it. It was a good thing Keir had moved the dress out of the way; he would have never gotten into the passage. “He’s the only one in here.”
“Keep looking.”
“Okay.”
Keir blinked and shook his head. ‘Damn it… fucking pepper spray. ’ Everything was going bad, how did they get in without no one hearing?
Rune quickly walked down the passage the flashlight in his hand. He slid to a stop and opened another wall panel. Slipping out, he walked over to the closet door when he heard his name. Looking over he found the two hiding in the corner. “Come on let’s get out of here.”
All three of them climbed in just as the door opened. They all held their breaths as the man shined the flashlight in the room. “This room is empty. I’m going to the next.”
As soon as the door closed he looked at the two. “Get somewhere safe.”
“Where’s Keir?”
“They got him.”
Kaya whimpered and covered her head. “I’m scared.”
“What about you Rune, you can’t even fight.”
“I’ll manage. I think they’re after me and my brother.”
“We’ll be at the end of this path.” Nuri pointed the opposite of the way Rune came. “I usually hide in here to read my books without anyone bothering me.”
“I’ll come back for you.”
“Okay, don’t get hurt Rune.”
He thumped his fist on his chest, “I never got injured once when I was stuck in that hell hole.”
“Sure you did…”
He gave her a look and she started to push Kaya down the passage, “You two just stay put.” She waved to him and he quickly moved along the passage. He needed to check on his brother.
Zach was up under the bed when they kicked the door in. His form shifted and he hung on the underside. He may be tall but he was skinny enough to hide under the box spring. They checked under the bed and he closed his eyes and held his breath. “Clear.”
“The closet is empty.”
“Bath is clear.”
“Damn it, where did they go?”
“We’ve got one!”
“Description?”
“Tall, black hair, blue eyes.”
‘Keir.’ He listened as the people left the room, the door closed and he let out the breath of air. The closet door opened and he heard feet padding on the ground. Someone dropped to all fours and he saw Rune. “Damn it brat, what are you doing?”
“They got Keir.”
“I heard.”
“What about the others?”
“I don’t know.” He nodded.
“I’m going to check.” His eyes were maroon.
“Rune.”
“Yeah?”
“Be careful.”
The small male smiled and nodded, “If push comes to shove…”
“I understand.”
He took off back into the closet and Zach sighed. The room door open and he froze. “Come on that room is empty.”
“Just checking.”
The door closed and Zach let out a breath.
Rune ran and slid to a stop under a doorway, “Don’t you touch my kids!” He looked through a crack in the floor and watched as Dawn held her crying kids to her. There was a woman standing with the man. “Their babies, they’re going to cry when scared.” Nina was sitting next to Dawn and was tied up.
“Shut those kids up.”
“How about you shut up?” They looked at Nina, “Your ugly mug is scaring them.” He kicked her and she ended up sprawled out on the floor.
“Can it, bitch!”
Her head was close to where he was at, “Nina, if you can hear me try to shift closer.” She moved her head and he smiled. “They’ve got Keir, Nuri and Kaya are safe, I haven’t found Caden yet. I’ve got a plan but it might not be good enough.”
“It’s okay.” Dawn looked at her. “If it helps, do it.” The woman nodded.
“I’ve got only a few skills from being there. Just a few.”
Nina sat up and looked at her mom, “Good luck little mouse.”
The babies soon grew quiet and Dawn smiled.
Rune slid to a stop as he heard a noise to his side. Placing his ear to the wall he could hear muttering. Moving down the wall he found a hole in the wall and his eye widened. Caden was laying face first on the ground and Keir was sitting next to him. He was staring at Caden’s still form, “What the hell did you do to him?”
“Tell me where they're at!”
Keir lifted his head up, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”Something lashed out and hit him across his face. His head whipped to the side and hung there. Blood dripped down the side of his face.
“I said tell me!”
“Quit your bitching.” Slipping past he tried to find a better hole so he could see who was hurting him. He slipped and caught himself he could see the blood dripping down Keir’s face still. Then there was a muffled cry of pain. “Shit…”
“How about I start putting holes in you.” Rune’s eyes widened and he whimpered.
“Hey talk, tell me where your bunk is.”
“Never!”
He looked over as Sage gasped in pain. Zach was holding his side as blood flowed over his hand. “Fuck… you.”
“Bastard!” Rune gave a muffled scream and tried to get free. Sage clutched the ground as an electric current went through him, when it stopped he shook and looked over at Rune. His hand reached out to grab the rope. “No you don’t.” Once again his body was racked with electric currents.
He lifted his head up, “… Rune…” then he passed out. There was a scuffle and Zach was tossed back onto the ground. Then something shot out and slammed into the person. He screamed as something sliced into his body, blood went everywhere. He started to shake and Zach cut through the ropes.
“Run Rune… get out of here!”
Red bled into his eyes and he stopped shaking. His hands slid across the floor and he pushed himself up. Moving forward he walked a few feet and pushed the trapdoor opened. As he dropped into the room under the stairs he quietly snuck over to the door and eased it open.
A slim male walked by the stairs as he looked at his watch. It was pitch black in the house but thanks to the glasses that they gave you for the missions you can see in the dark. He pulled them off and rubbed at his eyes. It was late and he wanted to get home. He was so busy trying not to yawn that he didn’t see the small person till it was too late.
~~~~

The unconscious male laid on the floor. He smirked as he pulled the glasses off and looked through them. “Hmmm, nice specs man.” That smirk disappeared when he heard a sound, slipping them on, he looked at the body. There was an ear piece in his ear and he grabbed it. Slipping it in place he listened.

“Have you located the missing?”

“No sir. The two won’t talk.”

“Try one of the others.”

“Yes sir.” Grinning he reached down and pulled the mic piece off of the body. The person groaned and he knocked him out again as he looked at the mic.

Playing with it he finally got it to work. “Yo, anyone out there?”

“Who is this?”

“Take a guess.”

“Rune Dayton.”

He gave a grin and tipped his head to the side as he looked at the body next to him. The male was wearing fingerless gloves he pulled them off and put them on as he answered, “Maybe…” He leaned back and looked at his hands. “Tell your buddy I knocked out that I like his gloves. I’m going to keep them.”

“Where is he?”

“Sleeping, don’t worry I just knocked him out.” Standing, he cracked his neck. “Okay mister, can I have a name.”

“Why?”

“It’s not fair if you know mine and I don’t.”

“Fine, Magar.”

“Is that your last name?”

“Yes.”

“Well, Mr. Magar…” There was a sound outside the door. “Time to move, talk to you later.” He dropped it on the ground and broke the mic. Jumping up he slipped into the passage way and closed the door just as the stair room was opened.

Magar growled as he slammed his fist on the table. “Find the brat.” They started running out of the room. He turned and looked at the people sitting there. Seven sat there, two women, three men, and two children.

“You’re not going to get him.” Zach was sitting next to Keir. “Not when he’s like this.” They had found him trying to sneak out of the room.

Keir glanced at him. It sounded like Rune but the way he talked was different. “Zach…?”

“He’s slipped.”

“So we’re the ones being saved.” Dawn said as she held the sleeping boy. Nina was helping her by holding the sleeping Liv. “He can do it.”

Looking at the man that sat at the table, he gave a wicked smile. “Are you ready to face your fears?”

Magar shouted, “Shut the brat up.”

Someone moved over and tied a cloth around his mouth. Chaim woke up and started crying, “Shhhh, little Chaim. It will all be over with.”

“Shut that kid up!”

“He’s hungry.”

The man looked at her, “Someone take her so she can feed the kid.”

“Yes sir.” Another woman led her out and Nina watched as she went. They soon were in the baby’s room; setting him on the changing table she checked his diaper.

“My little Chaim you are a smelly baby.” She quickly changed him and tossed it in to trash. “Time to eat!”
~~~~
Rune slipped into the closet the flashlight in hand. He didn’t need it with the glasses, but it made a good club. The sounds of crying drifted to his ears. “Shhh, Chaim you need to eat.”
“Why won’t he take the bottle?” The woman asked as she covered her ears.
“I don’t know, Rune figured it out but now he won’t take it.”
The sweeper woman was close to him; he slipped out and silently moved over to her. “You have to rock him as you feed him. You’re stressing Momma Dawn out if she can’t remember.” She spun around and Rune elbowed her in the face. Dropping to her knee, he brought his hand down hard on the back of her neck. She dropped to the floor out cold. The baby started to giggle as he picked the woman up and tossed her into the corner.
Once he was done tying her up, he stood up and turned to Dawn. “Momma Dawn, Now you need to call me that more often.”
“I guess.” Slipping over to the door he cracked it and looked out. “Where is everyone?”
“Our room.”
“Okay.” He slid to a stop in front of her and looked at Chaim. “See he’s eating now.”
“I think he’s grown attached to you.”
Looking over his shoulder, he took off over to the closet. “Bye.” The door closed and he was gone.
“We found five out cold in the other room!”
“My my Rune’s alter is really scary.”
Chaim giggled and reached up to her. She took his tiny hand and they sat there, waiting.
~~~~

The speaker crackled and Rune spoke up. “Hello Magar!”

“Where the hell are you?”

“Well that’s not fair.”

He glared at the speaker and Zach started laughing. Someone smacked him over the head. “How about we make a deal?

“Fine.” Rune smirked. “Let Nina and Liv go and I’ll give you a hint.”

He waved to a man and he started to push some keys. “Let me think about it.”

“You have five seconds.”

“Good…”

“He’s tracking you, break it!” The man glared at Keir.

“Shut that pain up.”

His voice got dark, “You touch him and you’ll be playing my game with different rules.”

“I lost him.”

“Damn it.” He looked at Keir and Keir just glared at him. “Gag him.”
~~~~
It had been a few minutes since the last time Rune had spoken over the speaker. Keir glanced at Zach and he looked at him. Something was going to happen.
Everybody in the room heard the scream and they looked at the door. “Get him!” They ran for the door and grabbed the handle.
The door opened and they found someone curled up twitching. Zach started laughing. They all looked back at him. Magar heard the sound from the speaker. “That was too easy.”
“Was it?”
“Yes.” The clicking of the keyboard could be heard. “Are you going to go with my deal?”
“Damn it! Lost him again!”
Keir was leaning against the wall when he heard it. It was soft but he heard it. “It’s your turn next time.”
The room door closed and only eight people were left in the room. Three of them weren’t hostages. Turning around he growled out into the microphone, “Get them up here!” Five minutes later the door opened and Zach’s eyes went wide. “Yes you recognize them don’t you?”
Standing there scared was his and Rune’s family. The speaker crackled and he heard him. “So you think that will help or are you not the confident?”
“I’m not play this time. Come quietly or I’ll kill them one by one.”
“Oh but I am… let’s play a game. You find me and I’ll come all peaceful like just the way you want it.”
“And…?”
“I tag you and you face your fears. If you know me then you know what I can do.” A chill went up his spine when he heard that dark tone in his voice.
