Blood Vane: It is to Dream
:::::::::::::::::
Ezra Blackfeather sat back in his chair and lowered the letter he had just received from his grandson onto his kitchen table with trembling hands.
This was not good.
Ezra chewed the inside of his cheek as he reflected on the dream that Blood had written to him about. A snake.
Well at least that was easy to interpret. Since the garden of Eden a serpent had always represented an enemy in dreams and judging by the actions of this particular snake Blood had a very dangerous enemy indeed.
The other parts of the dream were not nearly so clear though. Once again Ezra cursed himself for not having been a part of the boys life for so long. He actually knew very little about Blood when it came down to it. He knew none of the boys friends or who he might consider an enemy.
The wolves in the dream did make him feel a little better. At least it appeared that Blood had a protective influence in his life along with the malevolent one.
Sighing, Ezra closed his eyes as he began to compose a letter back to his grandson in his head.
Micky Cooper collapsed down on his bunk and thunked his head hard against the cement brick that lay on the other side. It had been another long hard night for him.
He had been pacing for hours it seemed. After meeting with Roddy Malone two nights before he had returned to his cell and tried hard to go to sleep, but he just couldn’t; not that night nor the one following.
Micky started to wring his hands nervously. It was true that he hated Seth Edwards, but the things that Malone had ordered him to do……
Blood Vane slowly came to wakefulness, the dreams of the night before chasing him into the morning.
Blood sat up stiffly. His grandfather lived close by and should have gotten his letter by now.
He was curious to see what the man would have to say. Hopefully Ezra would have some insight into what the dreams might mean.
He yawned and glanced over at his still serenely sleeping cell mate. Seth looked so peaceful with his pale pink lips just barely parted and dusty gold lashes casting light shadows on his cheeks.
Blood sighed. The other boy really was beautiful.
Roddy Malone stood up and leisurely stretched by his narrow bunk with a small smile on his lips.
He had, of course, slept like a baby.
