The Demons Within Me

This is written in third person perspective (something I don't really do so forgive the errors I may have XD)

A tall woman with lengthy light brown hair stood in the middle of a modern kitchen with her focus on the counter before her


, humming to herself as morning noises began to permeate through the house. By her feet there was a brown and white German Shepherd curled comfortably. The woman looked down at the watch dog and smiled, gently nudging the animal with her heel.

“Go wake Amanda for me Rin.” she muttered just before she moved to the stove to turn off the fire below the now finished grilled cheeses. Rin got up and bounded out the kitchen as the woman began bustling about, getting plates and cutlery and placing them on the table on the other side of the kitchen’s counter.

Light thudding announced the reappearance of Rin as she came back into the room, tail wagging and panting slightly as if to say ‘I did what you asked… can I get a treat?’ she smiled and moved to the cupboard and said

“I think you do deserve a treat.” as the slower thud of someone walking down the stairs reached her ears. Amanda’s pale blue eyes were still sleep filled as she walked into the room and inhaled.

“I see Melinda taught you well.” she stated “But why did you have to have her wake me up so early, Saige?” Amanda groaned.

“You wouldn’t be so tired if you didn’t spend the night fucking me senseless.” Saige retorted poking her in the stomach “And as for sending Rin to wake you up.” she looked at the happy dog munching away at the bone “Did you forget what today is?” she turned back to Amanda who immediately began to wrack her brain

“Ummm…” her eyes began to wander as she looked for something that might jog her memory, “Yes?” Saige sighed and shook her head moving the plate with Amanda’s grilled cheese in front of her

“We were going to visit Melinda today and pick up Kristin and Gina. But then again, you’re fine with Granma doing all the work while you have me all to yourself aren’t you?” Amanda put down the plate and gave a wicked smile. Saige rolled her eyes and Amanda raised her hand to gently caress her cheek

“I love every moment I spend with you. With or without the children. You do know that right?” Saige smiled and nodded, her amber and hazel eyes sparking with light. Amanda smirked and placed a light kiss on Saige’s cheek before taking her plate up again and moving to the den, pausing once to look at the tale then back at Saige.

“And the dinner this evening.” she said in a slightly tired way. Amanda nodded and continued on her trek, mumbling slightly to herself. Saige shook her head and cleaned the counter before following Amanda in the den…

“Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!” were the cries that met them as they pulled up the driveway.

“How long have you been waiting there?” Saige asked as she came out of the car followed by Amanda.

“They were waiting for you almost as soon as they finished breakfast.” Melinda said smiling. Her hair now streaked throughout with silver and her face had endearing wrinkles (the kind that actually added to the beauty of a face) while her eyes remained bright and full of love. “It made me a little sad that they wanted to go home so badly.”

“We did not!” the shorter of the two cried clinging to Melinda’s leg while the two mothers smiled.

“We missed mommy’s all.”

“Alright Kristin,” Melinda said putting a hand on the taller of the two while Gina ran down and flung herself into Saige’s now open arms.

“They didn’t give you too much trouble right?” Amanda asked as she playfully tugged Gina’s light brown hair. Kristen pouted at the insinuation that they misbehaved

“They were two angels when I was looking, heaven knows what they were up to when I turned away.” Melinda replied as they made their way inside.

“We behaved!” Kristen said still pouting, her blue eyes flashing. “You believe us don’t you?”

“Of course I do.” Saige said placing a kiss on Gina’s cheek and smiling at Kristen. Kristen grinned and ran inside after Melinda, her dark brown hair emulating Saige’s in length.

“So what did you guys do while you were here?” Amanda asked as they got to the den and Gina was placed on the couch. They smiled and looked away.

“We went to watch a movie.” Gina supplied

“Avatar 3!” Kristen said before they could ask. Melinda went into the kitchen.

“How was it?”

“It was so cool.” Gina gushed “I really liked the effects, it’s like what you do right mom?” she looked at Saige

“A little bit.” Saige replied smiling coyly. Kristen noticed

“Did you help with the effects in that movie?!” Saige shook her head

“I wanted to, but I was helping with another project at the time… maybe you’ll see it soon…” Saige chuckled while Gina continued to talk about what they did

“And we got to see aunt Cecilia and uncle Christopher!” Kristen interjected suddenly.

“You did?” Amanda said, eyebrows raised “And just how is ‘aunt’ Cecilia?” Saige nudged her and shot her a look that said ‘Behave’

“She’s good. She, uncle Christopher and aunt Angeli wanted to see you sometime and asked if you remembered…”

“They said you would know what it means.” Kristen finished. “What do they mean?”

“You’ll see later.” Saige replied while Amanda looked away. Melinda came in a short while later with a tray of snack and Amanda groaned

“Between you and Saige I think there’s a plot to make me gain more weight than is humanly possible.” Saige laughed

“Okay, one. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I mean there will be more of you to love and, two. I doubt it’s possible for you to put on weight the way you tend to work out…” she smiled suggestively and turned back to Kristen “So you guys had fun I take it.”

“Yeah, Grams let us stay up late and watch old Disney movies!” Saige turned to Melinda and pouted

“‘Old’ Disney movies?” she remarked “Please don’t tell me it’s the movies I grew up with.”

“Fine I won’t tell.” both Amanda and Saige looked up to the ceiling and shook their heads smiling/blushing.

“Hey! How have you been?” Angeli and Christopher sauntered into the living room with smiles on their faces. Saige and Amanda looked up

“Sure, make yourself at home.” Saige said noting how Christopher plopped down on the sofa.

“Thanks, where are the girls?”

“In their rooms getting ready.” Amanda replied while Saige went back to the kitchen with Angeli following.

“So what are they getting for dessert?” Angeli smiled

“Ice cream cake and strawberries for Kristen, blueberries for Gina.” Saige replied opening the fridge and retrieving a glass container to reheat the food that had been cooked the day before and placed it in the oven to be reheated.

“And how’s your mom?”

“I thought you saw Melinda yesterday?” Saige replied innocently

“Not Melinda smartass.” Angeli said rolling her eyes.

“Oh her?! Ah well, I’m not too sure… I think she finally file a domestic abuse charge, but it was to Jacob.” Saige stated after a moment of thinking

“Jacob, why?”

“I dunno, maybe he got tired of the madness that was going on, or the fact that they still tried to get him into therapy.” Saige rolled her eyes and started getting the drinks ready.

“How old are the girls now?”

“Nine and eleven.” Amanda said walking through the door.

“It seems like only yesterday you guys were making out in theatres.” Angeli said smiling while two jaws fell open and closed almost as quickly

“We’re just waiting for Cecilia and Robert I think?” Amanda said chuckling a little at the thought

“Maybe Lenore?” Saige looked to Angeli for confirmation.

“Robert and Michael might be a little busy, Cecilia may be bringing Beka and Lenore is busy with work.” Amanda focused her gaze on Angeli for a while longer until she continued “And Charlos is coming in a while.”

“When is he going to pop the question I wonder?” Amanda asked with a smirk.

“Not anytime soon, that’s for sure.” Angeli countered quickly. “We still have a lot to do with our lives before either of us are ready to marry.” Amanda rolled her eyes and Saige chuckled to herself as she continued getting things out of the fridge and setting them up on the stove or within the oven to be reheated.

“He may surprise you one day you know.” Saige said smiling as the steady thump of foot steps announced the arrival of the girls while the knock on the door signaled new guests.

“Aunt Angeli!!” they cried and barreled into her as Cecilia, Beka and Charlos entered the room followed swiftly by Christopher. It became a bustle of excitement as the girls ran from one to the other happy, as usual, to have a full house.

They sat down and ate, chatted, and reminisced on old times, keeping it PG for the children, and had them laughing. Kristen and Gina later, went into the den to pick out some movies to watch leaving the adults to talk alone for a bit.

“You know I’m still amazed at you two.” Charlos said, looking out the door the girls had disappeared through, “How you guys kept your relationship secret and the fact that you were so abused before.” he directed the last part at Saige “It makes people realize how precious life is and how lucky some are…”

“Are you saying we weren’t lucky?” Amanda challenged playfully as she wrapped her arms around Saige.

“I think it might have been good for you to have had your challenges when you had them.” Cecilia said smiling ruefully “They were hard, sure, but they brought you together despite…” Beka, rested her head on Cecilia’s shoulder and draped her arm around her waist.

“You are great together… and those girls, wow. They’re like bundles of energy! How do you handle them?”

“I mostly work at home.” Saige said “And it’s Kristen who’s the fireball you have to watch out for. She does take after her mother.” Amanda turned to Saige with arched eyebrows

“And Gina doesn’t take after hers?” everyone laughed. Just then voices called out and everyone made their way to the den, still chuckling, just a normal day…
