Rune stared in horror at his reflection. “Keir!” Nuri gave a sheepish grin.

Keir was in the door way, when he came to a full stop he stood up straight and coughed. “Mom!”

Dawn came around the corner two babies in her arms, “What’s with all the shouting?”

He pointed at Rune and she sighed as her head hung. “I’ll take Liv and Chaim.”

She passed them to Keir and held her hand out to Nuri. “Hand them over.”

“Sorry.”

The small male shook his hands, “It’s okay you tried.”

“Yes Nuri you did try. It looks good, but remember he has to stand in front of a lot of people.” Rune listened to Dawn as she cut his hair. When she finished she ran her hands through his hair and smiled. “There better.”

It was shorter now, he could see his ears. Keir walked over and looked at him through the mirror. “It looks good.”

“Nuri can you run into my bathroom and grab the basket of hair dye.”

“Okay.”

“What for?” Rune was turning around only to be turned back facing the mirror.

“You’re showing your roots. You want me to fix that or leave it alone.”

“I guess it won’t hurt to have different colored hair for a while longer.”

“Okay.” Nuri ran it and sat the basket down. “Let’s be happy I’ve been cutting hair for as long as I have.” She ran her hand over the bottles and frowned. “Damn out of dark green.”

“Huh?”

“We might have to use black.”

“Huh!”

“Hold on you’ll see.” Pulling the black hair dye out, she smiled and started to work on his hair.

Zach had walked into the spare room and stopped took a couple of steps back. He looked into the bathroom and found Rune sitting there with Keir, Dawn, and Nuri around him. “What’s going on?”

Keir turned to Zach, “Rune’s getting his hair dyed.”

“Oh.”

Dawn looked at him, “It’s almost done.” She turned him around. “Lean back.” He did and she turned the water on. They watched as she lathered his head, Rune almost fell asleep, and then rinse it out. Once the water was clear she turned the water back off. “Okay hand me that old towel we use with Zev.”

“Here.” They watched as she squeezed the water out and then rubbed his head roughly with the towel.

“Okay there.” Pulling the towel away he stared at his hair he had black hair with dark green tips now. His ears were showing and it was tussled a bit and short. The bangs hung in his face and it looked thicker. “I’ll tell you what; your brother would have never pulled off this color with his skin tone.” His brother pouted.

“That’s so harsh.”

“You have a good skin tone when it comes to hair dye.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.” She rubbed his hair some more and then ran her fingers through his hair. “You take good care of your hair don’t you?”

“Yep.”

His head nodded forward and she smiled. “Don’t fall asleep on me.”

Rune sat up and looked at her, “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Dawn started brushing his hair. “There, done.”

“It’s…” They all looked at Zach and he coughed, “good. You’ll look good at you next gig.”

He grinned and hopped out of the seat. “Okay, I have the same color as Keir now!” They nodded and he ran out of the room, “I’m going to call…” He blinked and looked at Zach, “I don’t have my cell anymore!”
~~~~
Arius gave a wary laugh as Silver glared at the cell phone. “That damn brat! He better not be ignoring my calls!”
“Silver.” He sighed when the male growled at the phone when he got only the voice mail. ‘Rune…’
~~~~

Rune shivered and looked over his shoulder, “What is it Rune?”

“I just got a really bad chill.” He started to pull at his wet hair. “Silver is going to kill me!” A cell phone appeared in front of his face. “Huh?”

“Call and tell them what happened.” Keir was looking down at him and he felt Rune hug him.

“Thank you.” He grabbed the phone and ran back to Keir’s room. “Ah, please don’t be mad!” Once in Keir’s room he quickly dialed a number. “Please pick up.”

“Hello.”

“Hey, Arius.”

“Good thing you called me.”

“Is that Rune!!”

“Yes.”

“Give it here!”

“No.”

“I’ve been trying to call him for the last five hours!”

“Silver, I’m trying to find out why you can’t get a hold of him and you’re not making it easy.”

“Arius!” He heard a sigh.

“Silver.” There was a growl and a curse as Arius most likely made Silver fall. “Now lay there till I’m done.”

“I’m so sorry. My phone was destroyed.”

“How?”

“Gun… shot… it.”

It went quiet and he paled as a rush of air went out. “Okay. Whose phone are you using?”

“Keir’s.”

“The new boyfriend?”

“Yeah.”

“Did he…?”

“No! A sweeper did.”

“Okay.” He pushed his glasses back on and glanced at Silver who was glaring at him. “I think you should call and tell the rest of your friends what happened.”

“They should know by now.”

“Must be some friends, take care of yourself. I have a kitty to punish.”

Rune choked, “What?”

“Silver, he’s been annoying me.” He could hear the squeak from Silver. “Plus he’s been paying more attention to you than me; he’s been trying to get a hold of you for the last few days.”

“Well don’t let me stop you I’ll call you later.”

“Don’t hang…!” The phone snapped shut and Silver saw the smirk on his face. “I… sorry.”

Arius stood up and crouched down to look at him. “Kitty needs bath.”

“Noooo!” He tried to worm his tied up body away, only he was dragged out of the living room. “Someone help me!”
~~~~
Rune sighed, “Those two.”
“Two what?” Two arms snaked their way around his waist and he smiled. “So?”
“Arius and Silver.”
“What about them?”
“Silver’s been a bad kitty!” He said it with a grin and Keir tipped Rune’s head back.
“Are you saying that those two are together?”
“Yep.”
“I see.”
“Yeah, they’re an odd couple.”
Keir looked down at him and rune grinned. Turning his head he kissed Keir, “Mmm… to be snowed in with you has to be the best.”
“That’s good.” His lips moved down Rune’s neck. “It’s still light out what should we do?”
He pulled Rune against him and his face lit up, “I can think of something.”
“Really?”
Rune found himself being turned around and Keir kissed him. His body shivered and he groaned into the kiss. As Keir deepened the kiss, he was about to pick up the small body when the power went out. They broke apart and looked around. “What the hell?”
Pulling apart they looked at each other. “Keir I thought that thing worked.”
“It does, I wonder if a fuse blew.” He moved and Rune grabbed him. “What is it?”
Keir nodded when he saw Rune’s face, “Fine.” He knelt down and the small male climbed up onto his back. “It’s still bright out so what’s wrong?”
“I just want to be with you.”
They stepped into the hall and looked around, the hall was darker then the room. Nuri came running around the corner. “Keir, one of them is gone!”
“One of what?”
“Dad he came down he’s got a gash. One got out I don’t know where it went.” She pulled at her hair. “Aw, geez where’s Zev when you need him?”
“Lobo?”
“He’s around here somewhere.”
“Go find him and be careful.”
“I’ll try.”
“Nuri…”
“I know.” She ran off and Keir looked at Rune.
“What’s going on?”
He walked back into the room and over to his closet. Opening the door he walked in. “Rune I need you to get to Zach’s room.” The small male was placed on the ground.
“Why?”
“That room is safer.”
“Okay, why are we in the closet?”
“This is why.” He placed his hands on the dresser and pulled it out some. Pushing on a part of the wall it slid open. “Get in.”
“What about you?”
“Don’t worry.” He kissed Rune and then pushed him into the hole in the wall. “Follow this,” he passed him a flash light. “Stay quiet and move quietly.”
“Okay. Keir please be safe.”
“I will.” Keir replaced the wall and pushed the dresser back into place.
Looking around Rune took a breath and turned the light on. “Okay you can do this.” He turned and walked. The passage was wide enough for him and high enough for him to walk without bumping his head. Walking quietly he came to a fork in the path and he closed his eyes. “Right.” He turned and felt the floor dip. His feet slid a little and he had to keep from shouting in surprise. Taking a deep breath he righted himself and kept walking. Shinning the light on the floor he found it to rise up.
Looking up he could see dust falling through the cracks. ‘Is that his door.’ There was a loud thump and he blinked, then he heard clicking and something sniffing along the floor. He found a hole in the boards and looked through. It was Lobo, he was sniffing the ground and Dawn was following him.
“Did you make sure Rune was safe?”
“Yeah he should be on his way to his brother’s room.”
“That’s good.” She cursed when Lobo whined. “Where did that bastard go?”
“I’ll go check the first floor and the basement.”
“Be careful I don’t need two injured people.”
“I got it.” He took off and Rune turned and ran down the small hall. Something wasn’t right. Why couldn’t they find it? He kept running and then he smacked into something.
Rune stumbled back and he heard the growl. Looking up he saw red eyes looking down at him. ‘Oh shit’ He turned and ran, the rouge on his heels. Sliding down the slop he quickly ran up the other and passed the turn into Keir’s closet. The rouge was so close he could feel it breathing down his neck. ‘If he shifts he will get stuck.’
His foot hit something and he fell through it. Landing on his back he didn’t wait to get his bearings he was trying to get out of the small room he fell in. He found the door and the rouge dropped to the ground just as he opened and slammed the door closed. Throwing his weight against the door, he hoped someone would hear all the noise.
Then he heard it. He jumped to the side just as it shifted and knocked the door open. It growled and stood over Rune. It’s mouth was dripping saliva as it walked forward. A large blur shot past and slammed into the rouge. There was snarling and yelping as the fight went on and then the sound of a shotgun going off had him covering his head.
“Hey, ya yellowbellied bastard ya messed with the wrong family.” They all looked over and saw Dawn. She had a shotgun ready, aimed, and was close to pulling the trigger again. “Rune, I’d run.” He quickly got to his feet and took off running, “Lobo, protect.”
The wolf took off after Rune. The two shot past Keir and he slid to a stop, “Rune?”
The shotgun went off again and he saw his mom jumping back out of the way as she loaded the gun. “Keir, go get Rune somewhere safe.”
“Okay.”
Rune stopped and leaned against the wall, he was panting. The flashlight still in his hand, he pushed himself away from the wall and ran again. A hand grabbed his arm and he whipped around to use the flashlight when another hand caught it. “You okay?”
“Keir… it was in the wall.”
“I can see that.”
“Oh fuck…” he dropped to his knees and Keir once again knelt down.
“Climb on.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
They quickly walked down the hall and came to the kitchen. He moved over to it and stopped. “What’s wrong?”
“The basement door is opened.”
“What?” He let Rune slip to the floor and Lobo walked up to Rune. “How did it get open?”
“We’re about to find out? Stay up here. If something comes out that’s not me Lobo will attack it.”
Rune nodded and stood there. He watched as Keir walked down into the basement. ‘Be careful.’
Keir walked down the steps, his bare feet touched the floor and he moved over to the black box. The power cord was cut. Who cut it?
He was unaware of the thing that was watching him as he stood up and left the basement. The door closed and the person slipped out. “I’m in.”
“Well?”
“Someone cut the cord.” Dawn walked in with her gun over her shoulder.
“Damn rouge is out cold.”
“Mom, the card was cut.”
“Damn. I’ll go get the lamps.”
“Me and Rune will go check on dad.”
“You do that.”
They went their ways and Rune had to ask. “So does this house have a secret passage on all the floors?”
“Just the first two. One of the trapdoors on the first floor will drop you into the basement; I’ll show you around as soon as I check on dad.”
“Sweet.”
The door opened and they walked in. Zach was sitting on the floor and Caden was sitting with Nuri. “I’m all healed.”
“Good the rouge is out cold.”
“I’ll go get him and lock him up. Then we’ll do something about him later, when the storm calms down.”
He nodded, “I’m going to show Rune the passage.”
“Okay. Have fun.”
Keir walked over to the closet and pulled Rune in after him. “This way.” He pushed the wall to the side and climbed in. Rune followed him in and Nuri came in after them.
“I’m coming too.”
They looked at her, but before Keir could say anything, “Okay.” He sighed and Nuri held up her flashlight. “Where’s Kaya?”
“She’s in my room playing a game.”
Turning he saw Keir and he smiled, “Why don’t you go play a game with her instead?”
Keir looked at Rune, “I guess I could.”
“Yeah you should go and see if she’s all right.”
“I should. Okay I’ll go play hang with Kaya.”
She left and closed the wall panel. “Good thinking.” He had a smirk on his face and Rune smiled.
“I’m really good at it.” They kissed and he pulled Rune down the passage. The tall male had to stoop some so he didn’t hit his head. “I think you’re a little too tall for this passage.”
“Hmmm, I guess.” Stopping at the fork he pointed to the left, “My room is down there, and the main stairs are over there. I like this passage because if someone comes in that doesn’t know about it can’t find you. But you can find them.”
“Is it on the blueprints?”
“No it’s not.”
“Wow.”
Keir knelt down and pointed at the floor. The light shone on it. “That’s the room under the main stairs. The room you came out of is under the smaller stairs.” He pointed up. There were small wooden planks along the wall that led to another door. “That door leads to a crawl space that connects to the other side of the hall, but half way through the crawl space is another on that follows along the hallway. When Zev and I were little we drilled holes so we could see into the hallway. Every door in the hall is aligned with a trapdoor in the crawl space.”
“Cool, so that’s how you got into the closet before me.”
“Yeah.”
He showed him how to open and close the wall panels and how to get from the second floor to the first floor through the passages. Rune watched and absorbed everything that Keir showed him. When they had finished they climbed down and Keir quickly pointed out the door that led into the basement. “That wasn’t there before. Zev placed it there so that we could take a peek at what mom and dad got us as kids for our birthdays.”
“Do they know about it?”
“Never found out.” They made their way back up and Keir pushed open a wall panel he slipped out and helped Rune out of the hole. “So what do you think?”
“That was so cool.”
“Time for lunch.”
“Okay.” Both of them made their way into the dining room where Dawn was sitting plates out. “Yay! Food!”
Dawn smiled and placed food on his plate. “Eat up.” Everybody soon joined them. “There’s plenty so everybody better have seconds.”
“You must be really worked up to cook so much.”
“Hush and eat Caden.” He nodded and started to eat.
