Kuniyasu's Confession
Frost, Yuki, and Kuniyasu Karin sat in the small diner, Kuniyasu’s head bowed over the magazine looking pitiful. For the first time she had not come to Yuki to brag or to sneer, but she had come to admit the truth. Now that Kuniyasu had told Yuki what the truth really was she sat with her mouth slightly agape wondering why she had not seen it all sooner. On the cover of the magazines that Kuniyasu had not shown Yuki was Shinwa, with the remaining Velvet Wrapping members, several of them with something that resembled a cigarette was quite a bit small held between the tips of their lips, and Shinwa himself with a needle in his hand. This was not a picture they posed for, this was a picture taken through windows to prove that the front man for the band, who had tried to come off as so spectacular and cleaned up, was anything but.
A few of the articles even showed pictures of Yuki and Shinwa in Japan half a year ago, looking happy while they shared their dingy apartment together. A caption, in English which Frost translated, not only denounced Shinwa, but also mentioned that Yuki had a long suffering drug habit as well. Kuniyasu was the first to ask, “Did you not know he was still doing drugs while he was here?”
“He couldn’t have been,” Yuki denied, looking at the pages and pages of evidence of her boyfriend not cheating on her… but lying to her. Lying so severely about who he was that it struck her through the heart. “He… I would have known. We lived under the same roof for almost a year, I would have suspected.”
Would she have? Why else would he have been giving his parents money still? Why else would a man richer than some of the wealthiest businessmen in Japan be living in an apartment barely large enough for him and his girlfriend? Why did he not enjoy the lifestyle he was accustomed to, and why did he need the job so badly?
“No,” Yuki cried, the tears burning from her eyes, leaving hot trails down her cheeks as she sobbed. “No, he was… he had quit, he promised me he had quit…” Hadn’t he? Did he ever actually say those words or did she always assume? Now her memory was shot and not only was her memory gone, but her good name was being trashed in some London tabloids.
“I’m sorry,” Kuniyasu apologized. “I’m sorry that I knew the whole time and didn’t tell you… but… I was just so…”
“Bitchy,” Frost added in for her.
Kuniyasu shot him an angry look and continued on. “Jealous,” she replaced. “I was jealous of what you had with him, and so I thought it better for you to suffer, you didn’t deserve those things, at least not in my eyes, but…” Yuki held her breath, waiting for the realization that would hit Kuniyasu and make her a good person. Kuniyasu pushed a strand of blond hair behind her ears and blew out a breath. “My parents found out what I had been saying and they threatened to cut off my allowance if I didn’t tell you the truth.”
So much for her being a good person deep inside. “Well, thanks,” Yuki said blandly, gazing down at the pictures with tear filled eyes. She was somewhere between being hollow and being out of her mind daft with sorrow. What was she supposed to do now? Was she supposed to just give in to this?
“Yuki,” Frost began, trying to pull Yuki back into her seat as she suddenly rose from the table. “Don’t go yet, calm down first.”
Yuki just shook her head, shaking strands of pure black hair out of her eyes. “I… I want to go home, I want to be alone. I can’t stand this much longer. I don’t think I can just sit here and listen to anymore. Besides, he and I broke up last time he was in Japan. He is no longer my concern.”
“Can you seriously mean that?” Frost asked, his teeth grinding together. “After everything Kuniyasu put you through, after all of that time of thinking he was cheating on you, you are going to let him go because of some drug addiction?”
“This is quite a bit worse, don’t you think?” Yuki screamed. Yuki, never one to lose her temper was finally pushed far enough over the edge. “Don’t you think the drugs, the lies, our whole relationship, was worse than him finding another woman? I could live with leaving him because he was fucking someone else, but now I have to deal with the fact that everything we had, every moment we shared, was filled with lies. Hell, he might not have even saved Shai on purpose, what if he himself was going to jump? I don’t know because he has done nothing but lie to me!”
“Wow, she’s freaking out,” Kuniyasu pointed out, quite obviously, to Frost.
Frost just rolled his eyes and pushed Yuki back into her seat. “If that is true, if all of your fears are true, it will not help you to go rushing out of here so suddenly. You are going to get yourself hurt.”
Yuki sat in her chair, thinking of ways to escape. She suddenly felt ill, her stomach churning and her body shaking. Why could none of the men she loved ever be… good? Kago was bad enough, but now she was in love with some man who had used her for… for what? A cover? Did he even really love her?
“Yuki!” Yuki’s eyes shot up to find Fuji and Devilin rushing through the door, the two of them looking disheveled. At first her anger and jealousy lashed out. In a moment she hated Fuji, who had two of the greatest men fighting over her, two men who had serious futures, two men who loved her with everything they were and she was taking them for granted. Then she saw the look in Fuji’s eyes, the spilling tears as she rushed over to her best friend, and felt the arms that wrapped around her, pulling her close. “Yuki, you know?”
“That Shinwa is a druggie?” she asked bitterly, hugging her best friend back, “Yeah, I know.”
“Then… you don’t know the worst?” Fuji pulled slightly away, to look Yuki in the eyes.
“What could be worse?”
“Yuki,” Fuji said quietly, Devilin standing at her back, a brick… but for whom. “Shinwa was just arrested for drug possession, and this time they aren’t letting him off so easily. It could mean… it could mean almost life in prison for him.”
