Get It Right
\"Richard are you getting this, it\'s almost her turn to go up,\" Vickie said.
\"I got it Vick calm down! The camcorder is working fine,\" Richard answered. Vickie tried calming down as she craddled Justin in her arms.
\"Look, she\'s about to walk,\" Jett said.
\"Janese Aultmon,\" the speaker announced. Janese walked up the steps and toward the principle, vice principle, and the superintendent.
\"That\'s my baby,\" Vickie screamed.
\"Go girl,\" Richard shouted.
\"That\'s my wife,\" Jett hollered. \"Go angel, go!\" Janese shook their hands and accepted her Maryland High School Diploma. She heard the outbursts coming from her family and husband. She walked off the platform and held her diploma up high enough for her parents and Jett to see.
\"Rich, you getting\' this,\" Jett asked.
\"Yes, I\'m getting it,\" Richard answered. When Janese sat down he closed the camcorder and sat down. \"Now I\'m down.\" The graduation ceremony didn\'t take long since the graduating class of 2004 only had one hundred six people graduating on time. When it was over Richard, Vickie, Jett, Janese, and Justin strolled out of the Arena and to their limo.
\"Where\'s my car,\" Janese asked, searching the parking lot. She had already removed her cap and gown and was ready to roll out.
\"What car you talking about,\" Vickie asked, putting her hand on her hip. \"We ain\'t say nothing about a car.\"
\"My husband got one for me,\" Janese beamed. \"A Mercedes Benz.\" Vickie and Richard stared at one another.
\"A Benz! Don\'t you think that\'s too expensive to be buy a rookie driver,\" Richard asked Jett.
\"Nope.\" Jett lifted his arms and stretched out. \"There she is right there.\"
\"I forgot you had money like that,\" Vickie mentioned.
\"Did you get her anything else?\"
\"Actually, yes. Janese is eighteen and has graduated. So I bought her a…\" His voice trailed off.
\"A what,\" Vickie asked.
\"A studio,\" Janese finished.
\"What are you talking about,\" Vickie asked, her eyes getting wide. \"You\'re moving out already? I thought you were going to college?\"
\"Yes I\'m going to Howard. I don\'t want to stay in those dorms. I want to be home when Jett comes up for his break.\"
\"But your own studio,\" Richard repeated. \"You should of consulted us first before you purchased that Jett.\" Jett looked at Vickie and Richard then at Janese.
\"What do you mean I should have consulted you first?\"
\"We\'ll talk when we get home,\" Vickie said, getting in the limosine.
\"I don\'t see the big deal,\" Janese said before she got in. Richard and Jett followed and they continued the conversation. \"Ma, I thought you guys would be happy.\"
“Janese you’re going to school this fall and-“
“Next fall. I want to take a year off,” Janese corrected.
“What’s going on with you,” Vickie asked after she buckled Justin in his seat. “Why are you taking off?”
“Because ma. I just finished twelve years of school without a break. I need to get my mind right before I go off to college. I thought that you would be happy with the fact that I don’t want to leave right away.”
“Janese you need to get your education. You got accepted into Howard. Why do you want to wait a year,” Richard asked. He knew that Vickie didn’t like her decision at all.
“I told you. I need some time for me. There’s some things that I want to do before I start school again. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go look at my car.” Janese climbed out the limo and slammed the door.
“I don’t know who she think she is! I don’te ife if she is eighteen years old,” Vickie ranted.
“I’m sorry. I should have talked to you two before I made any decisions,” Jett said.
“Yes, you should have Jett,” Richard snapped. “Just because she’s out of high school and eighteen doesn’t mean she’s ready to make her own decisions.”
“Look, I said that I was sorry. Did you want Janese to live with you guys for the rest of her life? Do you want to make decisions for her for the rest of her life?”
“No, but we do want her to get an education and not to worry about bills.”
“She doesn’t have to worry about any bills. Everything is already taken care of.”
“Jett we know you have money out the ying-yang, but I don’t think it’s right that you’re constantly paying Janese’s way,” Vickie interrupted.
“Janese doesn’t have a problem with it,” Jett answered. Janese came bouncing back in the limo with a smile.
“Thanks for the car baby, I love it.” She kissed him on the lips but he didn’t kiss her back.
“Your welcome,” he whispered, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
“What’s wrong,” Janese asked, turning around to face her parents. “What were you guys talking about?”
“Jett should have asked us before he bought you that car and studio,” Vickie answered.
“Why?”
“Because we are still your parents.”
“So you guys want to make decisions for me even though I’m an adult?”
“It’s not that. We think Jett shouldn’t be buying you all these things,” Richard said.
“Why?”
“Because you aren’t married yet.”
“So if we get married you two wouldn’t care,” Janese asked, raising an eyebrow.
“No we wouldn’t. Janese to be honest with you we think Jett has a motive behind all of this.”
“My motive is to make her happy,” Jett hollered.
“And he’s doing just that,” Janese said.
“Answer this for me Jett,” Richard said. “Are you a virgin?” Should I lie or tell the truth, Jett thought to himself. Just tell the truth, Janese said in her own head.
“No,” Jett answered.
“Janese are you,” Vickie asked.
“No.”
“Were you a virgin before you met my daughter,” Vickie asked.
“Yes, I was. I don’t know where all of this is going.”
“Jett, Vickie and I don’t want Janese having sex with you just because you buy her expensive things,” Richard finally stated. Jett was ready to explode. He let out a snicker and stared out of the window. How the hell can they sit there and say that.
“I’m really getting sick and tired of all that crap. A guy only buys a girl something because he wants some. That’s not true about our relationship. To be honest with you, I can get anything from any woman I choose. You see that girl over there,” Jett said, nodding his head at a young lady who looked like she was in her early twenties. “I can have her legs spread in a matter of minutes. But I choose different. I choose Janese because you raised her to be a true woman and carry herself like a lady. And that’s what I need in my life.\" Janese couldn’t believe how she was hearing Jett talk to her parents. But they deserved it, she thought. “Since you guys want to know the truth I’ll tell you the truth. Janese and I did have sex, we were each other’s first. I didn’t take your daughter to a cheap motel, the back of my car, or one of my friend’s houses. I made love to the woman I love in a big ass canopy bed with rose petals. That’s how a woman should be treated and that’s how it’s gonna be.” Vickie and Richard just sat there absorbing all Jett had said. They didn’t expect for him to be so open about their sexual experience.
“Well, Janese you are your own adult now,” Vickie said. “And if that’s what you two decide to do then I guess we have to deal with it.”
“Ma, I’m not trying to over rule you guys or anything. I’m an adult now and it’s time for me to start making my own decisions,” Janese said. “So, my future husband and I are going to look at our condo.”
“See you guys later,” Richard said. Janese and Jett exited out of the limo.
\"I got it Vick calm down! The camcorder is working fine,\" Richard answered. Vickie tried calming down as she craddled Justin in her arms.
