Seeing Eric
AN: Another One.
Alex was staring at the spot Kyle had been standing. He knew Kyle would be angry, but the hurt in his voice pulled at Alex’s heartstrings, making him feel a little regretful, but he quickly shook off the feelings. Alex had done the right thing. It was most important to protect Kyle, even at the risk of Kyle’s own feelings. He still couldn’t help feeling the guilt. He wanted to speak with Kyle, but knew that the younger boy needed time. He stood outside the door, and softly rapped on it. “I’m going out for awhile. Do you have my cell number if you need me?” A muffled yes was his answer. He grabbed his keys and wallet, and left soundlessly.
Kyle peeked out into the living room after waiting five minutes. He checked to make sure Alex was gone, before fully stepping out. He knew Alex was not going to approve, but he was doing what HE thought was best. He slipped on his shoes that were by the door before exiting the apartment. Unfortunately, he did not have a key and was forced to leave the door unlocked.
He walked the busy streets determined. It was noon, so Eric was at lunch at school. He entered the building through the main doors, and then made his way to the cafeteria. Once entering the spacious room, his eyes scanned and landed on a figure making its way towards him. He gulped nervously, but knew Eric wasn’t stupid enough to do anything with so many people around.
Eric gave a cruel smile. “Aren’t you the brave one, coming here without your body guard?”
“He doesn’t know I’m here. He wouldn’t allow it.”
“I guess you’re not as whipped as I thought.”
“The police came to Alex’s apartment, and asked questions about you. It seems Jonathan went to them at the encouragement of Alex.”
Eric’s fists clenched at his side. “What did you say?”
“Don’t worry; I did not say anything YET. I refused to talk.”
Eric gave a cruel laugh. “If you had any brains, you would have told the officer everything.”
“I wanted to talk to you first.”
Eric smirked. “Let’s go somewhere private.”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “That’s not happening. I’m not that stupid. We’ll talk right here.”
Eric glared. “I don’t have to talk to you.”
“If you don’t, I’ll go to the police right now.”
Eric took a shallow breath. Kyle had Eric’s life in his hands and he knew it. He wasn’t sure if his twin was bluffing, but he sure was not taking the chance. “Fine, what do you want?”
“What happened?”
Eric groaned. “Can you elaborate a little more? I’m not a mind reader.”
Kyle sighed. He had been staring at his feet and turned imploring eyes to his twin. You weren’t always like this. We used to be best friends. You used to protect me. Don’t you remember when I first came out, the reaction I got at school?”
Flashback
A 14 year old Kyle walked the halls, his eyes on the floor. He was afraid to meet the scathing gazes of his fellow classmates. The day before, word got out about his sexual preference. Before he could see what everyone thought, he had left school. Jonathan had caught him cutting the end of school. Although his older brother promised not to tell mom, it was made certain he would go to school the next day. The day passed by quietly enough. Kyle began to think maybe no one cared that he was gay. There were some whispers throughout the day, but it went no further. By the ring of the final bell, Kyle fully relaxed, not feeling the least bit of embarrassment anymore. He always had to walk behind the school to get home and he did it that day like always. That’s when he was cornered by 3 guys. They all wore the same cruel smiles. They were all tall and lanky. They actually looked like the belonged together. One had brown hair tied in a tight pony-tail with brown eyes. The second had shoulder length black hair with black eyes. The third had cropped brown hair with emerald eyes.
The one with black hair spoke. “So, you are the infamous fag we’ve been waiting to meet? I’m kind of disappointed. What do you say Tim?”
Tim was the guy with long brown hair. “You’re right Rick. He doesn’t look like a fag. How about you Dan?”
The final one named Dan had the cropped brown hair. “I’m sad too. I was looking forward to seeing a show with this one. We can’t allow this fag to get off easy though.”
Even with this predicament, Kyle rolled his eyes. His was sick of the stereotype of the normal gay guy, which was a girly guy. Unfortunately, Rick, who seemed to be the leader, saw the eye rolling. He grabbed Kyle by his shirt collar, making the boy wince in pain. “Don’t get smart.” Rick’s sidekicks laughed, like what Rick said was the most hilarious thing in the world. Tim and Dan grabbed each of Kyle’s arms. Rick made a fist and punched Kyle in the stomach. He would have doubled over in pain if Dan and Tim hadn’t been holding him up. Next, Rick kneed him in the stomach. Kyle grunted in pain, but made no noise other than that. He wouldn’t give his tormenters the satisfaction.
“Leave him alone.”
Kyle looked up hopefully. Standing before them was Eric, Kyle’s twin brother. Rick turned to face Eric. “What if I don’t?”
“You and your friends will be answering to me. No one messes with my brother and gets away with it.”
That day Eric had gotten two black eyes, and an injured ankle. The bullies got it a lot worse. Eric may seem lanky, but he was no pushover. For the next week, Eric continuously watched over Kyle to make sure no one messed with him. Everyone seemed to get pass the shock of Kyle being into guys. Some of the girls even seemed to think that guy on guy action was oh so hot. Things got back to normal.
END Flashback
Eric’s gaze was averted at the mention of those times. Kyle wasn’t letting him off that easily though. “What happened to that Eric?”
Eric made sure his breathing was controlled. “That Eric is gone, so get used to it.”
“You still haven’t told me why though.”
In a voice without any emotions, Eric answered “I was raped.”
