Chapter Twenty-Five
Disclaimer: Characters in this story are my creation, as is the city of Bannen,(as far as I know, Canada doesn’t have a city named Bannen in it), and the hockey team is fictional as well. California doesn’t have a team named the Demon Dogs, that is my creation. The characters in this story are not based on any specific person, so any similarities are purely coincidental. I do not own any rights to the Stanley Cup, and I don’t make any money off my stories.
---------------
I tried to keep the hockey facts as truthful as possible, so please excuse any slip-ups. While this is a story based on a sports team, it’s not my intention to focus completely on it, but instead on the romantic story. I also don’t bash hockey players in real life, as I’ve met a few and they are lovely people. It just works in my story for now. I was inspired from the recent playoff games, when this plot bunny jumped into my head. Please enjoy.

Chapter Twenty-Five
As with any other game the Bannen Warriors played, the players had a ritual that they followed through on game day, regardless of whether or not they were playing at home. Since Denise had started spending more and more time with Graham, she began to realize the pattern that each player followed.
They had their game-day skate in the morning, so the team could get their legs under them, fine-tune some last minute details. After that, they leave the arena, some players staying behind to talk to the media. Depending on the player, there is usually a one to two hour nap during that afternoon.
Game-day meals varied between players. Some liked to have pasta, some liked steak, or fish, and pretty much the whole team got in their greens with a salad. The conditioning coach made sure that they all knew what to eat to make their bodies function the best they could. They wouldn’t want to eat something to heavy to drag them down, and in the same token, nothing too sparse so that they wouldn’t lack energy.
Within the last few weeks, Denise had found herself preparing game-day meals for herself and Graham, and on the rare occasion, Colin or Neil. The boys liked to stick together and discuss the upcoming game over dinner, and Denise was more than happy to sit in and listen. Since she had begun dating Graham, her interest in hockey steadily grew. Now she understood the sport and loved to watch it and cheer, especially when Graham was on the ice.
Today was something entirely different though. After tonight’s game, she and Graham would carry out their plan against Hilary, and if everything went smoothly, then Hilary would be gone for good. Denise couldn’t imagine Hilary reacting any differently. Although they were bitter enemies right now, at one point in the past they had been friends, so Denise knew how Hilary worked. She was insecure, and as soon as she saw just how much Graham wanted Denise, and not her, that would be enough to crush her spirits.
Denise checked the pasta pot on the stove. She didn’t want to burn it at all, especially when Graham had invited Neil and Amanda over. They would certainly not appreciate an overcooked dinner.
-------------------
Colin had to take a deep breath to keep himself in check. Jenny, the woman who worked at the sports store, had invited him over for dinner. Since their first meeting, they had gone out on a few dates, but they had been a friendship sort of thing, they had yet to share even a kiss.
Since their conversations drifted to hockey more often then not, Jenny knew all about the pre-game rituals, including the importance of a good dinner. She had to laugh at Colin’s enthusiasm – never in her life had she seen someone so deeply involved and in love with his career as Colin.
Although she had been the one to invite him over for dinner, it didn’t take long for Colin to drift over to the kitchen and start to take part in the meal preparation. Jenny supposed it was automatic for him – he had been doing this a lot longer than she had. He had started with the vegetables, but slowly they had started to change places, so that he was preparing the salmon while she was fixing together a salad.
“So, are you nervous about tonight’s game? You’re the starting goalie tonight, aren’t you?” Jenny asked between chopping lettuce. Colin gave her a small smile.
“Yeah, I’m always a little nervous before each game, but that’s okay. That energy gets transferred into my performance and gets my adrenaline going.”
“But they’re a good team?”
Colin nodded. It pleased him greatly to know that Jenny was taking an interest in the game. When they had first met, she had admitted that hockey was not one of her big loves, and she didn’t even know who he was.
“Yeah, they’re a good team, there’s no doubt about it. However, we’ve got Kelly, Welding, Hanks, and Hamilton as our top-notch forwards, and it’s really hard to shut down that line. Plus, with Michaels, our veteran on defense, it’s really hard to get pucks past him. We’re easily in the top five of our division.”
Jenny smiled, tossing the chopped vegetables in with the rest of the salad. As Colin talked on about the Warriors, she watched him closely. He was incredibly good-looking, which she thought to be a little strange with a goalie. Weren’t they supposed to be horribly beat-up, considering that they stop pucks sometimes with their own bodies? That, and when the opposing team is firing shots, they tend to crowd the goaltender. From what she could see, Colin was pretty much perfect.
Another thing that she had noticed was a strange innocence in him. Even from day one, she had gotten that feeling. She couldn’t put her finger on it just yet, but it would come to her. If not today, then sometime very soon. Colin was a mystery, but she would solve that one.
----------------------
As the 3rd period began to drag on, Denise was becoming more and more nervous. She just wanted the game to be over with, so that she and Graham could deal with Hilary. This had to be the most unenjoyable hockey game she had ever watched, all in part to the fact that she was anxious over what was yet to come.
By the time the final buzzer went off, Denise was out of her seat and walking towards the Warriors’ locker room. Flashing her pass, she easily slipped through security, intent on finding Graham and getting it over with. What had started off as something that was supposed to be fun was feeling more dreadful by the minute.
Graham had to towel himself down and slip off his jersey and pads before coming out to see Denise. The media tried to intercept and ask him questions, but Jordan slipped between them and cut the reporters off from Graham. He knew the star forward had something on his mind, and would be unable to give the media his full attention. For this time, he would cover it and let Graham be on his way.
“Hey.” Graham said quietly, tilting down so that their faces were practically touching. He didn’t want anyone to overhear their conversation. Denise took in the sight of him. He had changed t-shirts, but was ultimately still in his hockey gear, minus the top half and skates. She hoped he had at least removed his jock strap. She knew those were a bitch to remove, experience from her high school days.
Graham placed his hand on the small of her back and led her to a room near the end of the hall, closed off from the media and the players.
*This must be it* Denise thought as they entered the small room. Although she hadn’t spotted Neil, she knew that the burly forward had their backs and was protecting them from any unwanted eyes. Pretty soon Hilary would come by, and probably ask Neil where Graham was. When she did, Neil would tell her where, leaving out the fact that Graham had disappeared with Denise.
Even if Hilary opened the door all the way, prying eyes wouldn’t be able to see what Graham and Denise were up to. In fact, you’d have to be standing directly in the doorway to see in the room at all. That would grant them enough privacy to go about their business without alerting the media to any scandal.
Graham closed the door behind him, and was on Denise in an instant. From the way he attacked her lips and his hands roaming over her body, Denise could assume that the thought of being with her was on his mind probably throughout the game. When she wasn’t responding as eagerly as he was, Graham pulled away to study her.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, lightly rubbing her back. Denise felt silly for letting her mind get the best of her. Taking a deep breath, she just decided to admit how she was feeling.
“I’m just nervous right now. Anxious. You know? I feel like it’s going to be impossible for me to loosen up.” And if that was the case, both Graham and Denise knew that this was not going to be an enjoyable session. Their best lovemaking took place when Denise was relaxed, and right now, she was anything but.
Graham had to resist heaving a sigh. He was all worked up from the game, his heartbeat still elevated, and knowing that he was going to do to Denise had him twisted up in all sorts of pleasurable knots. If he had his way, they’d already be going at it. Even as it was, he could hardly contain himself.
He knew her though, and if anything was going to happen, it had to be the right way, or not at all. He would have to switch it up a bit, and make her forget that Hilary was even going to show up. It had to be about Denise, and he could do that. Oh, how he loved to do that, make her squirm.
Denise watched Graham warily. First his eyes were clouded with fiery lust, then a touch of disappointment, and now it was mischievous. She didn’t know if she should be nervous about Hilary showing up, or what was going through Graham’s mind.
He leaned down to claim her lips again, slightly forceful but not as overpowering as before. He wanted her to know that he was the man, but he was not going to completely consume her, as what might have happened as before. She needed to feel secure, not dominated.
He ran his tongue over her pink lips, slipping in when they parted slightly. He gently pushed her so that she was practically lying back against a box, placing her in a perfect position without her even knowing it. Instinctively, she raised her legs and wrapped them around his waist. Graham stroked his tongue against hers, slightly pulling away so that they tangled in an open-mouthed kiss.
He outlined her body with his fingertips, starting with the features of her face, moving down across her neck and shoulders, and the edge of her breasts, down her waist and finally cupping her buttocks. They finally parted from their kiss when breathing became an issue. Graham didn’t let it stop there though.
Keeping his eyes trained on hers, he pulled his t-shirt up and over his head, exposing the tight muscles of his chest and abdomen. Since he had just finished playing a rigorous game, his muscles bulged in all the right places. He would need to ride the exercise bike after being with Denise, but he could afford this small break.
Taking her hands, he ran them over his chest and torso, coming to the drawstring of his shorts. He was still wearing much of his padding on his lower half, but he had been considerate and removed his jockstrap. That was something he knew she wouldn’t have wanted to deal with.
Denise pulled on the string, reaching up to unfasten his shorts. Graham was able to work miracles on her. She had been very tense before, and with his gentle touches, he had coaxed her into relaxing. Now she was eager to free him out of his shorts, and more importantly, have him enter her. Her pulse quickened with that thought.
Graham watched her work his shorts with ease, reaching in and freeing him from the confines of his clothing. He let out a small breath when her hand closed around his shaft and drew him out into the cool air. With a practiced touch, she stroked him into full hardness, rubbing her fingers over the head. He groaned under his breath.
“I want you so bad.” He growled, very nearly tearing the buttons off her blouse. Parting her shirt, his fingers drifted over the lace of her bra. It wasn’t the time or the place to strip entirely, but he wanted to look at as much of her as he could.
Sliding his hands up her thighs, Graham pushed Denise’s skirt up to pool at her waist. She was wearing dark lacy panties, a match to her bra. It drove him crazy with need. Hooking his fingers in the elastic, he drew her panties down her beautiful legs. She had to release his waist to do so, but as soon as they were off, her legs were hooked around him once again.
“Now.” Denise said breathlessly, drawing Graham close. He pushed his hips forward to settle against hers, his length slipping in her tight channel. Eyes squeezing shut, he desperately tried to hold back a loud groan. Pulling out, he thrust himself fully into her, her breasts bouncing from the force.
“Oh Graham…” Denise murmured, her nails digging into his biceps. He rocked against her in a steady rhythm, completely entranced with her face. His breathing was laboured, but he rather it be his breathing that was audible and not his usual loud groaning. No one outside wanted to hear that.
Denise couldn’t gain any leverage out of the box, so Graham had to take control, setting up the tempo and strengths of his thrusts. Life couldn’t be any sweeter.
---------------------
Neil had watched Graham and Denise disappear into the small room before standing guard. He was far enough away for it not to be suspicious, but close enough so he could control who entered the hallway. He had managed to avoid the media for now, and he hoped that by the time they finally took notice of him, Graham and Denise were done.
Hilary had shown up at the perfect time, right after Neil was certain Graham and Denise were going at it like rabbits. Neil envied them. He wanted to be home with Amanda, and he had to still work out his legs on the bike. Hilary was looking around for Graham, and when she couldn’t spot him, obvious dissatisfaction filled her features. When it looked like she was going to give up, she spotted Neil. Plastering a fake smile on, she sashayed over to him.
“You wouldn’t happen to know where Graham is, would you?” She asked, her tone sickeningly sweet. Neil wanted to club her over the head with his hockey stick. Offering her a false smile of his own, he chose his reply carefully.
“Yeah, I think I saw him disappear into that room down there. I think he needed to grab some tape for his stick or something.” He wanted to roll his eyes at the delight that filled her eyes.
“Great! I’ll go check to see if that’s where he is.”
*Yeah, you’ll see he’s in there all right* Neil had to suppress a chuckle.
----------------------
Hilary made her way over to the room that Neil had mentioned, her pulse quickening. She and Graham in a tight spot – it couldn’t get any better! Denise would be so angry, and just that thought filled her with giddiness.
Her hands were almost shaking with anticipation. Reaching for the doorknob, she pushed against the door. Freezing in shock, she watched the heartwrenching display before her.
Graham and Denise were oblivious to her, as they were quite consumed with each other. It was no secret what they were doing, and by the looks on both their faces, they were taking much enjoyment from one another. Hilary couldn’t even tear her eyes away. Graham commanded Denise completely, controlling his thrusts while pleasuring her with his other hand between her legs. Hilary couldn’t see that much, but there was no mistaking it.
Ashamed, she silently closed the door in front of her. She felt stone cold. She had never seen any sort of affection besides a kiss between the two of them, and to witness that felt like a slap in the face. She couldn’t even deny what she had come across either. Graham and Denise were very much into each other. Hilary couldn’t trick herself otherwise.
Stepping away from the door, she turned and left through the hall that she had come from. Neil had moved farther away from where he was before, and Hilary wondered if he had somehow known that that was going on.
*No, he couldn’t of* She tried to convince herself. Denise had probably snuck in there and pounced on Graham when he had come in, but still, it’s not like she did the work. From what Hilary had seen, Graham looked like he was the one in charge. She was crushed. What was she supposed to think now?
