The 7th
Chapter 24
Vaan’s POV:
"Tobias, take care of Helle for me will you? I'm going to do some inspections before dinner.", I said and left the party. I wanted to find out who had arrived so far and why my sire had decided not to show yet. The 7th. She was normally not this late. I allowed myself to wait until the very day of the party before I came, and I expected to be the last one there. Was it that she had been distracted by a beauty again? My sire seemed to lose her head when she found a new child to adore. She was one of those romantics who actually believed in vampires falling in love.
I walked to the Sires quarters, there was a main room in witch doors to all other rooms led. Here they normally came through a gate. Children of other Sires were walking about. I expected the party to begin soon, most would probably be ’downstairs’ as we called it, a big, huge, gigantic space underneath the castle. Right underneath the ’cellar’ in witch we held our eventual prisoners and humans.
I noticed my ’brother’ in the room, he greeted me with a smile. ”Hello Vaan! I hear you did a good choice this year as well…” ”It surprises me how little I need to put into it to make it perfect. She was practically right in front of my nose.” ”Really..? And I hear there is a sister..?” I didn’t respond at this but instead I asked, ”Where is our sire? Wasn’t she supposed to have been here already?” He smiled a typical ’Mona Lisa’ smile at me, impossible to understand what it was supposed to mean. ”The 7th is arriving now.”, he said and laughed. I rose an eyebrow. ’What’s supposed to be so funny..?’ He laughed even harder at this. I didn’t get the time to ask him again, a gate opened in the middle of the room. There was darkness surrounding it and in the middle I could see the silhouette of a woman, then there were other silhouettes behind her. I bowed my head, as did my brother.
”My Sire.”, I said as the gate closed, still bowing. ”Sire my ass!”, was the reply I got, I quickly looked up and faced a little girl with blonde hair looking at me with lust burning in her eyes. ”Oh, never mind that.. I could well be your sire, sweet you….”, she smirked. ”Who… who the hell are you?!” I scanned the party behind her, my other two brothers and some humans were already starting to walk off. ”Where is the 7th?!” The girl got an upset look on her face, ”I AM THE 7TH!!!” ”Like hell you are!” My brother butted in, ”Eh.. Vaan, she IS.” I looked at him, then back at the little girl. ”Hey! I’m not that little! I actually happen to be 16! And YOU don’t seem to be that much older either!”
I couldn’t believe what I saw. ”What.. What did you do to my sire?” ”Your sire, my sire, is gone. Dead. Well, she couldn’t die, being a vampire, but you get it. Turned to dust.” ”What, when, how?” The girl sighed and my brother answered, ”Vaan, you really aren’t updated on anything are you?” ”Shut up Lucas, like you are the one to talk.” I turned towards the girl again. ”You killed my sire. Then you rightfully deserve a place among the 7 Sires, but you haven’t actually sired anyone, so I don’t see the need for me to bow to you.”
”Oh, really?” She then focused her eyes on me. I knew this technique, it belonged to our bloodline. She was trying to get me under her spell, imitating the feeling of being in love, making me bid her every command. I repelled it. Strong. She had gotten the strength from my sire, but not all of it. My brother on the other hand was not so fortunate. He got under her spell. She looked disappointed when she saw that her spell had no effect on me. A little confused as well. ”Why.. You…” ”Don’t think you are the strongest one in here, little girl. You have gotten too much power in your hands too quickly, you don’t know how to use it properly.” ”Maybe you can teach me then?”, she said with a flirtatious voice. ”No.” She moped. ”I’ll be your teacher, my Lady..”, Lucas said. She smiled at him, ”Yeah… teach me everything you know… ”
I rolled my eyes and decided to leave, but then I was reminded that I was probably the only sane person in the room, so I felt obligated to at least see if she held all the necessary information. ”You, the 7th, have a little task to do, are you informed about it?” ”What, huh?” I explained the situation with the demons and her obligations, and about the party. She didn’t seem to happy about having responsibility. ”But.. I.. Can’t you do it for me?” ”For crying out loud, I’m not your baby sitter, make Lucas or Andreas or Kato help you, my brothers who you so effectively cast your spell on! Good bye!”
I left her with my brother drooling all over her. One last glance over my shoulder told me that she wouldn’t be concerning about her tasks at first, she seemed more concerned with unbuttoning his shirt. I mumbled to myself something even I couldn’t possibly understand, just something I had picked up from the demon language. It sounded bad enough to express my feeling at the moment.
Tobias’s POV:
I stopped talking when I heard the door slam closed. It was Vaan who brought me out of my day fantasy about the party and all the vampires, the games, the clothes I would wear, the feeding.. Vaan seemed a little upset. He stood by the door and seemed to be lost in thoughts for a moment, then he looked at me and pointed at me, ”Don’t you get near the 7th, you hear me! That little piece of lucky shit..!” ”Huh? The 7th?” Vaan slammed his fist in the wall with just a little too much strength and made it crack up a little. ”What’s up with you?”, I asked. ”… Just.. She..”
He explained me about what had happened with the previous 7th and about the new kid on the block. My eyes widened with excitement, ”She controls your brothers? My ’uncles’? Lucas, Andreas and Kato?” ”YES!”, he said obviously angered. I was laying on the couch while Vaan had bumped down on the floor leaning his back against the couch. I leaned a little closer to him, ”And why does that upset you so much?” No reply. ”Are you jealous of her..?”, I teased him. ”He sighted. ”Maybe I am, maybe that’s why it bothers me so much…” ”Is it the fact that she managed to control your brothers, or kill your sire, or the fact that she got so much power so easily?” I let my fingers run down his neck and down his shoulders. ”She .. She is just.. ” He stopped. ”Just what?”, I asked, still running my fingers up and down his neck. He then got up on his knees and turned around towards me. While looking down at me he said, ”She’s just too much like me.” Then he leaned in closer, his lips almost toughing mine when he suddenly remembered something and asked, ”Where’s the girl?”
