Chapter 23

Miranda and Edward stood in front of the front door to his house. "Are you going to be alright with this?" He asked.
"I don't have a choice. I'm not going to let myself die."
"I know that. But is it what you really want?" She was quiet a moment. She smiled as she looked at him.
"Yes."
"Really?" he asked returning her smile.
"Really, really." he leaned down and kissed her softly.
"We shouldn't keep them waiting." he opened the door and they went in. There were no lights on. Edward could feel his kiss. They were all in the house. Six were gone.
"Where is everyone?" Randi asked.
"In their rooms. But we're going downstairs." she nodded, a little freaked out. He led her to the basement door and walked her down the stairs. A soft candle glow left enough light for Randi to see. Candles filled up almost all of the free floor space. On the ground were two circles made of runes. It looked like dried blood. Two circles? Why two, Randi wondered.
Savannah was standing against one wall. Faye and Melanie were against the other wall. Edward and Randi stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
"You'll need to put this on." Savannah held out a long white robe to Randi. She took it from Savannah and went to the back of the basement to change.
"Why are there two circles?" Edward asked. Savannah looked to her left. Daniel stepped out of the shadows wearing a white robe. Edward could only stare.
"Don't you remember? Danie was to be my other half before he was made a shifter."
"Bu how? A shifter cannot become your other half. It's impossible." Edward said.
"I want to try." Daniel said. "If it saves her then that's what I want."
"You didn't want to be connected to her before. Why now?"
"Because now I have what I've been missing." Randi walked back out.
"Are you ready?" Savannah asked. They all nodded. "Randi, Daniel, lay in the middle of the circles." They did as they were told. "Edward, follow what I do." Savannah knelt down next to Daniel. She picked up a red candle and held it above Daniel's chest.
Randi looked up at Edward as he held the candle over her. He picked up her hand and placed it over his on the candle, mimicking Savannah.
"Flesh to my flesh." Savannah said. Edward echoed her. She squeezed the candle until it gave under her strength. The wax seeped down their hands and arms. Randi winced as the wax touched her skin. He placed her hand back on the ground. He brought her up so she sitting and facing him. He used one hand to cradle the side of her face.
"Blood to my blood." he echoed Savannah. He leaned in and bit into her neck. Every flame grew instantly. This was the only time that either of them were going to allow themselves to drink human blood. They drank down the blood as if it was the only food they would ever taste again.
Savannah pulled away as Daniel's heart had almost stopped beating. "Your blood to mine." she said. She bit into her wrist until blood began to trickle from the wound. She put her wrist to Daniel's mouth. At first he resisted. He did not want to drink blood of any kind. But she held her wrist on his lips until he had to drink. Randi was more than eager to drink from Edward. She had no intention of dying. As they drank from their hosts, a faint hum filled the room. Melanie and Faye covered their ears. To them the sound was very loud. It kept growing until Savannah and Edward pulled free from their mouths. The hum exploded in a crash of souund that brought Faye and Melanie to their knees.
"Your life to mine." Edward said after Savannah. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. Power surge from Randi into Edward. Some of his power flooded into Randi. She began to write on the floor from the sudden amount of power being transferred into her.
Daniel was screaming. Something wasn't right. He shouldn't reacting this way. Bones were popping under his flesh. Breaking and remending themselves. His flesh looked like it was crawling on his bones. He jerked in the circle of runes. The runes around Daniel began to glow red while Randi's glowed blue. Her body was going through the natural changes. Her teeth growing longer, her bodily organs slowly down. But Daniel's body was fighting it.
His shifter side was not willing to give over to the vampire powers coarsing through him. His body was literally fighting to keep Savannah out.
Everything went deathly quiet all at once. The candle flames were blown out by an invisible wind. The runes no longer glowed. Daniel and Randi remained motionless on the floor. Savannah had collapsed to the floor but was still conscious.
"Randi?" Edward said softl. Her eyes slowly started to open. Even in the dark, her eyes could be seen. Where they had once been dark blue, were now bright and glowing. He was lost in her eyes. Edward could feel everything about her inside and out. It was amazing. Randi sat up and looked around the room. Everything looked new. She could see everything in the blackness of the room as if it were day light. It was so different but felt so right at the same time.
Savannah picked herself up off the floor and looked down at Daniel. She couldn't hear his heart beating or see him breathing. "Daniel?" she asked nervously. She didn't want him to be dead. Couldn't have him dead. She needed him.
"He is not dead because you are not." a woman said. Everyone turned to see another vampire in the room.
"Sydney? What are you doing here?" Savannah asked her sister.
"To find you and make sure that you're alive." she said looking to Edward and Randi. "Have you forgotten so easily. If Daniel had died, you would have from connectiong your lives. You have done something here tonight that has never been done before. Made a mixed breed. He is now a shifter and as close to a vampire as you can get. He does not breathe, and is tied to both the sun and the moon. You'll be lucky if the council doesn't try to take him and study what a fine creature he is." Sydney told her.
"The council will not set their hands on him. I have never done anything wrong. Daniel was to be my other half in the beginning. It has just taken longer than normal to make that happen." Randi's eyes were wide. Daniel was an other half and he hadn't said anything? How could he have done that to her?
"True, but he is now a shifter. To make one our other half is forbidden. No matter what. As well as falling in love with one. We are bigger enemies now than ever before." Edward grabbed his head with his hands. Pain, so much pain was close. And it wasn't coming from anyone in the room. Randi could feel it too but only worse. She was not used to feeling another's pain. It felt as if she was on fire, her skin melting off bone. She stood up sharply and ran for the stairs. She climbed up them painfully with Melanie, Faye and Edward behind her.
Dennis was standing in the living room holding Ethan's body over his shoulder. Corey was holding Whitney. During the rest of the day, Corey had went back into his own body.
"Oh my God," Melanie said looking at Whitney's burned body. Randi sank to her knees.
"Make it stop!" she screamed holding her head.
"I can't. It's something your body has to get used to." Edward said kneeling beside her. He took her in his arms. "Don't fight it. It won't last as long." he told her. Rnadi did the best she could to not fight it. It was difficult. When Edward was sure she would be alright, he went to Corey.
"Seth put her in a tank of holy water." Corey told him.
"He did what? I'm going to kill that son of a bitch." Edward said, anger taking over him. Randi whimpered on the floor.
"It makes sense." Randi said quietly. "I saw Jaicyn in the tank, you alive and the others dead. But Jaicyn was saved. He did the same thing but with another person. That means..." she trailed off.
"What? Means what?" Faye asked.
"Jaicyn is still going to die," she paused and looked up at them all. "And so will I."
"What are you talking about?" Edward asked.
"I had a vision, the night I met you. Jaicyn had been killed by Seth. There were three other vampires. One fighting you and one fighting another. I was shot with an arrow." she told Edward.
"You're not going to die." he told her, not wanting to believe her words.
"I saw it happen. It will happen. And if i don't, someone else will die in my place and I'll still die."
"Then someone else will die." Randi stood up and glared at him.
"Who then? Savannah? Daniel? Phillip? Would you choose who it would be?"
"If it meant saving you."
"You're unbelievable!" She yelled.
"Why don't you both calm down." Melanie said.
"Go upstairs." Edward ordered. His face contorting with rage. It made Randi's own anger worse.
"Don't tell her what to do." Randi told him coldly.
"She's my vampire. I can tell her to do anything I want!" he yelled at her. Savannah and Sydney came out of the basement supporting Daniel who had waken up.
"What's wrong with you? You're never like this." Savannah said.
"I'm sick of all you telling me what I can and can't do. I'm sick of it!" he turned from them and stromed out of the house. He passed Jaicyn and Kaiti on the way, not bothering to stop.
Savannah and Sydney sat Daniel down next Whitney on the couch. "You can't stay here. If what you say is true, all of you are in danger."
"There's no where to go." Faye said.
"Come with us. There's more than emough room at the house." Sydney offered. "We can leave tonight."
"I don't know." Jaicyn said coming into the house with Kairi. "What about our vampires?" she asked
"They all can come. There really is more than enough room." Savannah told them. But in the back of her mind held doubt. She didn't want any of them near her mother, or Sydney for that matter. Savannah was almost positive that her mother was working against her father and that Sydney as helping. She just needed proof. "We'll find a place for you tomorrow when the moon rises." she said to the shifters in the room.
"What about Edward?" Randi asked.
"I'll wait for him to return and tell him what's going on." Savannah assured her. "The two of you were feeding off each others anger. That was why you two became so angry."
"It was horrible. So much rage. He's angry at the world." Randi told them.
"If you want to know why, I will explain it another time." Jaicyn offered. She knew Edward should be the one to tell her. But Randi needed to know what happened to him, to both of them all those years ago.
"Am I just going to stay here?" Kairi asked defensively. Everyone turned to look at her.
"Kairi, you'd be safer here with your family." Randi told her. Kairi hadn't noticed the changes in her yet.
"All the family I have is my dad and he's now in jail for abusing me." Savannah and Sydney looked at each other.
"If you think she will not be a temptation, then I do not mind." Sydney said. Savannah hesitated. This wasn't a good idea. But she had no where else to go.
"Alright, you can come. We will leave shortly. Sydney, take care of transportation. We need at least two limos and a few vans for Jaicyn's vampires."
"I'm on it." She said cheerfully leaving the room.
"We'll pick up Phillip and Stephan on the way. I'll go in and get them." Randi said.
"Jaicyn, get your kiss prepared to leave within the hour. If they resist, tell them they are being ordered by their supreme leader, Maurice. That should get them moving." Savannah told her. Jaicyn nodded and headed upstairs. "Everything will be fine, Randi, I promoise."
"I hope so, Savannah. I really do."
