23 Offers Accepted
The contenders gathered in the great hall that was lined with alternating white marble and crystal, the place shone with light and an atmosphere of quiet anticipation could be felt.
The Magii arrived in a sparkling light out of nowhere, smiling at all. “My Lord Overlord,” One spoke, “We come at the final call. But wait only a little longer, Lucard approaches.”
“As expected Magii, it is only fitting. Lord Lucard may have the most to gain from my offers.”
Lucard swept into the hall as if HE was lord of the place.
“Ah, Lucard, Brother! Come, come. Let us put our differences aside!”
“As you will, Brother Mine. I am amused - what will you offer my Rabble in exchange for leaving you at large?”
Laughter rang through the gathering, Overlord’s the loudest.
“As I advised your Emissaries. Your pretty emissaries who listened carefully and did me the honour of belief. NAY! I spoke truth. Be at ease. We have long since known this world is not large enough for all. I see agreement on that at the least.”
He stood looming over them all. “I offer you lands, nay WORLDS of your own gentlemen. Magii, am I not correct there is more than the one portal waiting hidden in your mountains?”
“There is, Overlord. As you know we have guarded these over the millennia. But you must offer US in exchange for the use.”
“I would offer the Magii the one hidden land that remains on Twisted World.”
“There are no more lands on this world.”
“Nay. There is one none has set foot on, or seen - in this millennia. It lies mid way in the Narrow Sea, that none have been able to pass in this millennia or the last. A land ripe for colonisation - and far enough away from mine that I have no desire to conquer!”
“If this is so, you have our word you will have passage of the portals.”
“Excellent, excellent! Gentlemen, surely a world EACH, with whatever following that will go with you, suffices you all?”
“And what of us, Overlord? You offered more.”
“Yes, Jacs, Lacey. I offer both of you more. I would have you both be MINE. As I am, my ladies with all the honour and else this implies. Or - worlds of your own? But I do not think this is something either of you would wish.”
“My Lord is gracious indeed,” Lacey countered, “But I would remain with My Lord Lucard. If HE so wishes, of course.”
Lucard laughed in delight. “Indeed, Lacey, I would welcome you at my side. Would you follow me to a world of our own?”
“I would, Lord. I am your devoted servant.”
“More than servant, Lacey. MY Lady. I at the least accept the offer Brother Mine. You are indeed generous.”
The others - Hadad, Vlad, Glem and Klem also accepted with shining eyes.
Overlord eyed Jacs. “Jacs? What say you? Would you be mine, or do you wish to follow your choice to another world?”
“It is a hard decision, Lord. I am, fond of both My Lord and My Master here and cannot make the choice between them.” She looked at both Hadad and Glem, smiling as the decision was made. “I accept, Overlord, I shall stay and be thine.”
“You will never regret it, Jacs. Never. You have regrets now, but this decision is not one of them.”
He whispered as she came to him, “And mayhap I can reverse one huge regret for you. We will know before long My Lady.”
He turned back to the gathering. “Klem, I have one great task left for you. Would you remain and take your reward a little later than the others? The worlds will still be there for the choosing.”
“As My Lord wishes, I shall wait. Your wish is my command.”
“And Glem. You still have something of mine that I must have returned. Worry not, the return is not the pain as was the giving.”
Klem wondered what his task would be. He also had that kernel of thought in his head, but it had been silent and forgotten for long enough. The task must still require it as Overlord had not requested it back. What task remained that was this important? He hid the quick shiver of anticipation, interesting … interesting …..
